After WatchOS 10 update I cannot swipe between watch faces

Not sure if this is just me or did Apple just remove the ability to swipe between watch faces? After updating, the only way to get to the neighboring watch face is to long-press to (brings up the edit button) and then I can move to a neighboring watch face. If that's intentional, that sucks. I use four neighboring faces for different purposes and am swiping between them constantly. This will make using the watch very laborious for me.

If it is not an intentional removal of a critical feature, and it's just me. What do I do to restore that most basic of functions? The watch is a Series 5 white ceramic.

Thanks.

I looked for the setting to be able to simply swipe without having to long press and I cannot find it -- it does not appear to be under the clock setting as noted above. Can you please tell me exactly where to find this setting? I also use multiple faces with difference complications for an easy glance and I prefer the old swipe. Thank you.

First, make sure you have updated your Watch to the latest version of watchOS (watchOS 10.2 at the time of this writing). Then, on the watch, go to Settings>Clock and enable "Swipe to Switch Face".

I hate this new update. I like to be able to switch back-and-forth to different Watch faces because each one did something to make my life easier. Now I have to go on the phone to switch watch faces. At least give us an option undo this new update.!

You DO NOT need to use your iPhone to switch watch faces

You can press your finger on the middle of the current watch f face until it shrinks, and then you can swipe left and right to change watch faces.

If that is not good enough, then in watchOS 10.2 you can enable left/right watch face swiping:

  • Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
  • Scroll down and choose “Clock” under Settings.
  • Toggle on the “Swipe to Switch Face” setting.

You should tell Apple what you would like to see in a future watchOS update

I agree too. Bad choice to eliminate face scrolling. I also hate that I can’t swipe up to find my phone and now have to open an app. Why change what worked😡

watchOS 10.2 can enable left/right watch face swiping as an option.

Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.

Scroll down and choose “Clock”.

Toggle on the “Swipe to Switch Face” setting.

This was a problem for me too. The good news is that with the 10.2 update, a choice is now offered to restore that swiping function if you wish.

On the watch - not the phone - go to settings-> general -> clock, and click on that. You’ll see a button to restore the swipe to change faces function.

Thank you Apple for restoring this function for those who use it!

If you press the watch face and hold it, it will trigger the faces to appear and you can swipe.
It took me a while to discover. Annoying but at least it’s still there.

If you go to Settings on the Watch (not on iPhone). , scroll to Clock. There’s an option to “Swipe to Switch Watch Face”. Toggle on and you can swipe like Watch OS 9.

On Dec 12th, I posted that it has been fixed. Why isn't the solution coming to the top of this page for others to see, and make the changes to their watches?

Reposting my original solution:

** IT HAS BEEN FIXED! ** New 10.2 UPDATE ALLOWS SWIPE, but you have to go to Settings ON THE WATCH itself:

1. Hit Crown

2. Scroll down to Settings

3. Scroll down to Clock

4. Toggle Swipe to Switch Watch Face so it's green, that means it's ON.

5. Try swiping.

No, this is not in Apple’s Support Document that you continue to swipe as before

Customize the watch face - Apple Support

Unpairing the watch is not going to put it back to how it was on WatchOS 9. This is misleading information. A new update is not going to “fix” it. It’s by design to prevent accidental swipes that caused the face to change. The same way control Center was accidentally swiped and icons inadvertently touched. One must now press the side button to bring up control centre.

Once again, your only hope is to submit Feedback requesting a change but keep in mind there are many others who will counter this with their own feedback who welcomed this way that none of you all liked!
