After WatchOS 10 update I cannot swipe between watch faces

Not sure if this is just me or did Apple just remove the ability to swipe between watch faces? After updating, the only way to get to the neighboring watch face is to long-press to (brings up the edit button) and then I can move to a neighboring watch face. If that's intentional, that sucks. I use four neighboring faces for different purposes and am swiping between them constantly. This will make using the watch very laborious for me.

If it is not an intentional removal of a critical feature, and it's just me. What do I do to restore that most basic of functions? The watch is a Series 5 white ceramic.

Thanks.

WatchOS 10.2 is out and the swipe to change the watch face is now an option to toggle on and off.

Go to Settings>Clock.

Switching Watch faces based on the complications I want at the moment is the number one feature I need.

I just to let Apple know that this change makes the Apple Watch a pointless device for me. I will stop wearing my Watch (and buying new versions) if this feature is not restored in a future update.

The point of Watch faces is that you can set them up for different contexts (Work, Workout, Communicaiton, Weather, Travel, Fancy Event, Casual Event, etc.). The inability to breezily switch between them destroys the usuability of having multiple faces set up in the first place. I hope they fix this right away.

I don't expect Apple to revert the OS any time soon. I would guess that Watch OS 11 may possibly offer something.

I've suggested changing the Share button found in Edit mode to a Lock icon to lock the screen to one's choosing.

But the more I've given this OS update consideration, it's apparent to me that WatchOS is implementing elements that will be found in Vision Pro. So, for them to revert to a usable interface, it would mean negating interactions found in Vision Pro; specifically, the reliance of the crown and the finger tap gesture.

For Vision Pro, a device that's primarily used while stationary and given your full attention, this may make sense. For Apple Watch, a device that's used primarily on the go for quick glances of information, this user experience is a monumental failure.

The old Apple: Explore with a simple swipe to your favorite complications. A natural gesture fueled with intuition, recognition and rewarded with familiar joy.

New Apple: Provide a link for necessary instructions that involve multiple steps beginning with a counterintuitive LONG press, THEN swipe to a tiny unreadable miniature of what you want , THEN click and then WAIT for complications to load.

There, how does it feel to be stuck in a place that will be a grand total of a half dozen or more gyrations to go back?

Stand still, remember and execute. Total focus on a path divergent from a moment of real life.

How far is this from where Apple began? Remember Steve Jobs anyone? Imagine the choice he would have made.

And so here we are, reminding and pleading for Apple to be Apple.

It’s truly devastating that Apple has removed this significant feature, (why on earth would they do that)??? I used it in my business to quickly change between faces for different features. I am so dumbfounded by this that I’m genuinely thinking of getting rid of my Apple products. No user innovation either over several years… big thrill, now the new phone is made out of titanium…yaaaaay… let me go and spend $1200. Maybe next year they’ll go overboard with excitement and give us a new color…can’t wait.

Accidental swipes (which can still happen) can be avoided by locking the watch in the control centre. Press and hold the Crown to unlock .

That feature was available in vers. 9 so I think this whole issue has nothing to do with accidental swipes and it’s part of Apple’s fundamental rethink of the UE called the New Design Language

I'm Italian, there are no articles on this problem yet. This choice, which penalizes the most aware users of the watch, is inconceivable. Was it difficult to include a "no swipe" function for those who were bothered by it? now I will write in Italian for those like me who are looking for information:

si, purtroppo l'aggiornamento di apple watch 10 non consente di scorrere fra i diversi quadranti (no swipe) con il gesto ormai familiare del che scivola sullo schermo. Lo hanno fatto per coloro che temevano lo swipe accidentale fra quadranti. Speriamo che Apple ci ripensi e che reintroduca una funzione fondamentale! Per cambiare schermo occorre premere e attendere che si apra la galleria di quadranti….

Here’s part of the June 6 Press Release from Apple. It may help to understand how this issue has arisen. As usual Apple are very hot on trumpeting what’s new so we can “experience Apple Watch like never before “ - that’s true!

New Design Language and Navigation

With watchOS 10, redesigned apps provide more information at a glance, and there are new ways to navigate and quickly access content.

“With watchOS 10, we’ve redesigned the interface, allowing users to experience Apple Watch like never before,” said Alan Dye, Apple’s vice president of Human Interface Design. “The update gives users the information that matters most to them at a glance, simplified navigation, and a new visual language that takes full advantage of the Apple Watch display. We’re also introducing the Smart Stack, offering quick access to proactive and relevant information, right from the watch face.”

Not on board with the scapping of a perfect software design. Apple is smart enought to know not to change the physical design (it's a Design Icon - captital D, capital I). And you can't improve on perfect. So they haven't, and Bravo! since I'm sure they get a lot of "I hate that it never changes" messages pressuring them to break bad from the perfect pebble shape of the watch. But iOS 17 is a devatating blow to the user interface within. All the gleeful cheerleading from their marking copywriters can't alter the fact that I no longer like my Apple Watch, and will never buy another unless find their way back. It should swipe right/left just like an iPhone and iPad (even the Mac can do that with Spaces). That muscle memory is ingrained and I won't wear a source of frequent frustration on my wrist. I do still like the watch if I just pretend that it's no more than a timepiece that has different faces and bands. But I've disconnected it from wifi (and will remove it from my cell plan). It's not a necessary part of the ecosystem, just handy (or used to be). I'll put it on permacharge to keep the battery healthy. It'll be in the rotation with my analog watches. Apple rarely blows it, so it's ghastly when they blow it this badly.

Absolutely Joe, how can the new way the user navigates to different faces be described as “simplified navigation”? The Smart Stack is clearly work in progress ; it’s nowhere near good enough to replace easy face switching. There are no widgets for messaging or email. No third party widgets. There’s a limit of 7. Some functions don’t lend themselves to widgets but there’s space for only 3 complications. In my IT days we had a golden rule: Never show the user something half finished.

I feel this so much!! You said everything! I too have given feed back. i suggested that in settings maybe they can give us the option for swipe or hard press swipe? After this update I MISS the swipe as I use various faces I have set up for my work. I agree too about the wiggly crown having to fight through the "smart" stack! You gotta have tiny *** fingers and hands to manipulate! I keep trying to swipe and its so sad and frustrating! I'll get used to it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

After WatchOS 10 update I cannot swipe between watch faces
