After WatchOS 10 update I cannot swipe between watch faces

Try pressing on the face a smaller face will come and then you can swipe!

If you press the watch face and hold it, it will trigger the faces to appear and you can swipe.

It took me a while to discover. Annoying but at least it’s still there.

We’re just assuming this was why. They will consider changing features if enough people complain about it. There’s always going to be things we don’t like. It’s frustrating if it was something you depended on and had got used to. On the introduction of WatchOS 9 last year, they changed how you snoozed or stopped an alarm - you had to tap the face. This was all fine and dandy if wearing short sleeves but to those of us in the northern hemisphere we are wearing long sleeves (or ski gear) and we had lost the ability to just put our hand up the sleeve to feel for the button to do it. A couple of updates later they put it back. We can assume again that enough people complained this was an inconvenience.

IOS 10 is taking a while to get use to. It wasn’t too hard to touch the screen for a second and when it becomes smaller I can swipe between my different watch faces. That was AFTER I read the help in this forum.

100% agree that this feature should not have been removed. I prefer the option of changing the watch face with a quick swipe.

I have also noticed that the ping phone feature was also removed? Is that correct?

Absolutely, I have a series 6 and was just about to press the button on an Ultra 2 then realised that it too would not have the faces swipe. I use 6 faces and swipe between each - one for fitness, one for health, one for weather etc. Stacks and widgets are of no use to me. I don’t buy the excuse that it stops accidental swipes, so what swipe back.

It has rendered the watch unusable, and every time I look at that time I now curse Apple. For that reason I took my Apple watch off this morning and will use my analogue watch.

A real own goal for Apple, make a useful watch pretty much unusable. Just arrogance on their part.

While I understand the intent of the change, I really do not understand why Apple did not make this feature a *toggle*. I never had an issue with unintentional face switching and I did occasionally switch faces to access different complications or information. I fully support having the *option* to lock the gesture, but removing it outright is wild.

I feel generally the same about every other change in WatchOS 10. Great if it had been optional… definitely feels like this update took a step back, though.

You are claiming that [tapping, holding, swiping, tapping] is just as easy as [swiping]? And to observe the data presented on numerous watch faces, repeating this process over and over and over is just as easy as flicking your finger tip?

I'm going to firmly disagree with you and present scientific data to support that four actions take longer than one action. Furthermore, having to repeat these four actions numerous times to observe information takes substantially longer and cripples use of the device.

I don't understand how people are okay (some seem pleased!) with Apple increasing the difficulty of using something that's primary purpose is to present information quickly and effortlessly.

Locking the watch face is an unfortunate UI decision and a BIG mistake. It could have been made a Settings option. The Smart Stack is close to useless, and it disables the functionality of watch faces like the Solar Dial. Like everyone on this thread, I scroll through watch faces all the time and find this change to be a real disappointment. I hope Apple will come up with a dot release that changes this back to the way it was.

I was using 4 different watch faces and switched between them all day to access various complications. This change turned a single swipe into a press hold, a swipe, and then another press. Who came up with this and how was this even approved?! And it’s not like they did anything useful with swiping left or right.

I will come back and say it isn't quite as bad as I thought. Swipe is gone but I thought it impossible to move on watch from face to face which is still here. They just added extra steps which is one of Apple's specialties. Ever try to take a picture ? remember just being able to click once to do things ? Steve is rolling over in his grave watching one click regularly turn into 15.

Exactly, that's the strangest thing about the whole thing. Swiping left and right has no function at all now. And the argument about accidentally swiping is ridiculous. It's never happened to me and if that were the reason, swiping up and down should also be a problem, right?

Yeah, and that it is worst than before, something that took less than a second takes now several. I was switching between faces several times during the day, several times during the hour, to check different information in preconfigured faces.

Oh, I took a video, but I guess I cannot insert it here. I do not know how I can share it. So: Long touch directly on face, then swipe small icon of watch face ..keep swiping like before til you get the one you want. then quick touch it .
