After WatchOS 10 update I cannot swipe between watch faces

Not sure if this is just me or did Apple just remove the ability to swipe between watch faces? After updating, the only way to get to the neighboring watch face is to long-press to (brings up the edit button) and then I can move to a neighboring watch face. If that's intentional, that sucks. I use four neighboring faces for different purposes and am swiping between them constantly. This will make using the watch very laborious for me.

If it is not an intentional removal of a critical feature, and it's just me. What do I do to restore that most basic of functions? The watch is a Series 5 white ceramic.

Thanks.

WatchOS 10.2 is out and the swipe to change the watch face is now an option to toggle on and off.

Go to Settings>Clock.

I am surprised it took me this long to notice. I have different watch faces for different purposes. I had a complication disappear, probably because its app got an update. I just had to re-add it to the two faces. Before doing this, I swiped to see if the complication was on the other face; that's when I found out.

I accidentally turn my flashlight on; I accidentally open apps; Every time I wash my hands I get a warning that the water is too loud. But, not once have I ever accidentally changed watch faces, (since the very first Apple watch).

Also, I liked being able to go to Reminders quickly, they got rid of favorite apps. They added a Widget for the Apple Watch for reminders that is even harder than scrolling to the app and opening it. Because it takes you to a different reminder list that you don't want. That's right, the widget is useless, unless that is the list you want to go to. Could you set up your favorite apps using the IOS watch app, yes. Can you set up Widgets on your phone, nope, just have to hold your arm horizontal for long enough to set a Guinness Record and all the Widgets seem to have no purpose at all, except to make ones life even harder. It has been weeks since I installed this, every day I think I need to simply now buy a sledgehammer, to eliminate this stress from my life. And even with all the changes the Time Zone can still not be set to stay the same as the iPhone. I just tested it again. I set the time zone on the iPhone to GMT, turned off my iPhone to simulate going for a walk without my phone and sure enough the time changed to local time on my watch, only to change back to GMT when I turned my phone back on. This is critical. People say just keep your phone with you. Right, then I no longer need the watch. I almost missed my cruise ship because my watch was an hour off from the ship with no notification. I did buy another watch that I can keep set correctly. I have posted on every cruise and travel forum to not buy an Apple watch unless you like missing the ship and paying $1,000s of dollars.

I haven't responded with feedback for the latest version, because there is an army of people with the same complaints. I have provided feedback to keep the Apple Watch on the set timezone, even when you walk away from the iPhone; after all, why have a manual setting/settable timezone if the Apple Watch won't stay set to that timezone.

I can live with the long press nonsense but on the new scene there's a "download" and an "edit" function. Swipe up and you get a red trash can and "delete" function. (I discovered these when I needed the timer for a project and wasn't paying close attention to long press options. At least the red is something of a warning.) A test of "Download" pulled up two (random?) phone numbers . Evidently I'm supposed to be panting to - what text a link and image to someone I know has an Android watch or my doctor's office. A test of "Edit" showed variations of the face, with the one I use several swipes along.

There is no “long press nonsense”. As I’ve said before in a reply to you “Touch and hold until you feel the haptic “

.

Should Apple have hobbled quick and easy face switching in watch os10 ? No., in my opinion

Is the new “widgets & Smart Stack “ an acceptable alternative? Again, No., in my opinion.

There’s no doubt many users have come to rely on easy face switching to access info and complications and the new navigation via the Smart Stack simply doesn’t meet their expectations.

I suggest you address your complaints to Apple, Bob Harris will tell you how to do that.

This forum is intended to help other users, it is not a soapbox . What two new shares did you find?

The features you describe as a ‘new scene’ invoked by the “long press nonsense” are exactly as it worked in Watch os9; so no difference there between version 9 and 10. I think “download” is better described as “Share”. And face editing has been there for as long as I can remember, but I think that easier done on the phone.

Hope that helps.

I also can't stand OS10, primarily because I swiped between watch faces all the time. Now it's simply too laborious to do so (hold down face, get to edit screen, swipe to face, get out of edit screen)....ughhh!!!! What was apple thinking?

I also don't like the new version of the weather app. I would quickly enter the weather complication and see what the temp and rainfall probability was over the next several hours...that's all I wanted to know...what's the temp, will it rain? instead I need to page through visibility, wind speed, humidity....who cares!!!????

I hope Apple will come to its senses and restore the swiping between faces, at least. I can learn to live with the weather app......I guess.

Probably that it was time to do something about all the complaints they got about people accidentally switching faces. But, that's just my guess.

There are hundreds of other weather apps available in the App Store, many of them with Watch versions. And many of them are free or at least free to try. Perhaps one of them would suit you better.

And, what BobHarris said.

“Upload' my watch face? (Press it and you get phone numbers, perhaps for sending a text.) Why on earth would anyone want to do that?”

It’s not ‘upload’ it’s Share. You can share a face with someone. Note that it’s the face design that’s being shared, not your information or data.

The features that follow the “long press” (it’s actually “touch & hold”) are not new in Watch OS 10.

Based on the Watch os10 Press Release and the Event it seems to me Apple thought swiping between widgets would be better than swiping between faces. Unfortunately there are no third party widgets (yet!). And without a ‘Favourites ‘ function any additional apps would only appear in ‘All Apps’. It’s a dog’s breakfast really.

>which others may have complained about

I can't buy that "others" "may" have complained about accidentally switching faces without supporting data. Has anyone seen an actual complaint about accidentally switching faces? Where? When? Has anyone seen anything said about accidental switching other than vague gossip?

There are 10 Apple watches among my family and no one will admit to having EVER switched faces accidentally.
