After WatchOS 10 update I cannot swipe between watch faces

Not sure if this is just me or did Apple just remove the ability to swipe between watch faces? After updating, the only way to get to the neighboring watch face is to long-press to (brings up the edit button) and then I can move to a neighboring watch face. If that's intentional, that sucks. I use four neighboring faces for different purposes and am swiping between them constantly. This will make using the watch very laborious for me.

If it is not an intentional removal of a critical feature, and it's just me. What do I do to restore that most basic of functions? The watch is a Series 5 white ceramic.

Thanks.

WatchOS 10.2 is out and the swipe to change the watch face is now an option to toggle on and off.

Go to Settings>Clock.

My answer stands. Going on posts here, most of us switch watch faces so we can easily get at functions such as the timer, voice memo, or whatever. Why would anyone want to stop to 'share' a watch face when we need the timer before the biscuits burn? The two icons that came up on top were for my dentist and the water district. I doubt if either are holding their breath to see a watch face I'm using, had I accidentally pressed one.

I understand that. Removing quick and easy swiping between faces has unintended consequences - like exposing a little-used feature that was always there - face sharing . I’ve helped people set up their new watch by sharing a face or two., but not very often! Editing faces is much easier on the phone.

And I agree.; all this has nothing to do with accidental face switching. - It’s Apple’s new design language.

Unfortunately the ‘Smart Stack/widgets’ design cannot replace multiple faces with multiple complications.

The Infograph face has 8 complications.; but the ‘complication widget’ has only 3. And you can only have one.

Most of the widgets work fine, but the Stack design is very poor. For example, the day/date/time is always shown at the top of the face, so why is there a day/date/time widget which can’t be deleted.

My current solution to the difficulties of OS10 Is to use Siri has much a possible. Such as “Hey siri, two minutes” ; or “Hey siri, weather” . Not ideal in some environments, but it works.

Most of the people in this thread are here because they don't like the change. But, consider there are millions of people who use Apple Watches. Many, many more of them are not posting here complaining about the change. You can't assume that the sample here is representative. If I go into an emergency room and see it's full of sick people, I don't assume that most of the people in the city are sick. Nor is your family necessarily a representative sample of Apple Watch users.

"Siri, set a timer for 17 minutes."

Based on the Watch os10 Press Release and the Event it seems to me Apple thought swiping between widgets would be better than swiping between faces. Unfortunately there are no third party widgets (yet!). And without a ‘Favourites ‘ function any additional apps would only appear in ‘All Apps’. It’s a dog’s breakfast really.

I wasn't thinking about widgets. The person to whom I was replying was talking about how they didn't like the new Weather app because when they tapped on the complication, it took them to a screen they didn't like. Hence my recommendation to look at other weather apps. Widgets didn't enter into it.

That said, I wonder who has complained that their watch does not change timezones randomly when they leave the vicinity of their iPhone. Since now it does and has for many versions and updates now, (when switched to a time zone other than automatic.)

I actually had to buy a second watch that stays set to what I set it to via the iPhone, to use when on cruise ships.

(To test this, set your timezone to GMT then turn your iPhone off. After a couple of minutes your Apple Watch will change back to your local timezone. It will go back to GMT as soon as it reconnects to your iPhone.)

The only way I've ever set a timer on my watch is by using Siri. The last thing I want to do when I'm cooking is put my greasy, floury hands on my watch. I didn't, until recently, realize the timer was a separate app.

My experience is that Siri rarely activates by accident. Certainly never when the cats meow. But my smart cat (the other one is a little dim, even for a cat), hasn't figured out how to say "Siri". You find it hard to believe that there are lots of people who don't change their watch face very often. I, on the other hand, remain astonished at how many people want to poke at a tiny screen when they can do it by voice. But, perhaps you're under 40.

You used more words than is necessary . ‘set a timer for’ is not needed.

Also, “Hey Siri Weather,” doesn’t launch the weather app. It shows the current temperature and hourly conditions. That seems like the info Ken Kodoma is looking for

Once again, you seem to be conflating a couple of posts. I don't think Ken Kodama was asking about timers and I never suggested Siri to them.

As for how many words I used, that's a matter of personal preference. Siri is very flexible and can understand the same command said a number of different ways. And it doesn't charge by the word. I am, perhaps, less peremptory than you.

You’re right, trying to cover various recents points in different posts in one reply doesn’t work well . I’ll try not to do that in future.

I think Siri solves at lot of the problems with the difficulties some users are experiencing with WatchOS 10. It’s often the quickest and easiest way to get the function/ info you’re looking for, and you can be brief - if you want to be .

The problem I have with the weather app is it doesn't show the temperature unless I tap on the complication. It just shows this "--" (without the quotes) I want to be able to just look at my watch and see the temperature. The odd thing is I have 2 Apple Watch's, a Series 4 and a SE. The Series 4 shows the temperature in the complication but the SE doesn't. Both of them showed it prior to the software update. Maddening!

Thanks for stating my thoughts so neatly! Workarounds for workarounds dominate my life enough as it is, I don't need them on my watch.

I'm not too pleased with having had to update my iPhone to match my new watch (and incidentally, get the 'activities' function back), either.

I just tried Siri as a timer. Took four tries, finally was yelling "Hey Siri, timer" at the top of my voice. Not exactly the thing for group situations.
