After WatchOS 10 update I cannot swipe between watch faces

Not sure if this is just me or did Apple just remove the ability to swipe between watch faces? After updating, the only way to get to the neighboring watch face is to long-press to (brings up the edit button) and then I can move to a neighboring watch face. If that's intentional, that sucks. I use four neighboring faces for different purposes and am swiping between them constantly. This will make using the watch very laborious for me.

If it is not an intentional removal of a critical feature, and it's just me. What do I do to restore that most basic of functions? The watch is a Series 5 white ceramic.

Thanks.

WatchOS 10.2 is out and the swipe to change the watch face is now an option to toggle on and off.

Go to Settings>Clock.

Alternatively, if Siri doesn’t work for you, add the Timers widget to the Smart Stack, . If Timers are really critical then you could pin the Timer widget to the top of the stack. Not ideal I know, but that’s where we are right now.

It’s very frustrating, over the past couple of weeks my use of the watch has significantly declined. I’ve chosen my top 8 complications and put them on the Infograph face - and I use Siri. No multiple faces , no swiping, no widgets. I’ve spent hours trying to make OS10 work for me and given up.

Siri is not a "workaround" as it's intended to be used to do these sorts of things. But, I do understand it's not appropriate in every circumstance.

For me, the swipe to change faces was anything but elegant. It resulted in my watch often doing things I didn't want. And, the bottom line is that Apple is never going to please everyone all the time.

All they really had to do was add a setting to disable swipe. This would please anyone that had the problem. Since constantly I have issues with hitting buttons and turning on random alarms, etc. I’m surprised I never accidentally swiped to a different face. So, certainly none of the issues I’ve had have ever been fixed. Some issues that started 20 years ago right after macOS 9. Still not fixed in the latest version of macOS.

This is a very bad interface “improvement” decision. Easy swipe between watch faces was something I had used all the time. They were like different desktops for me, for different complications. I used to have 2-3 different versions of my favorite watch face with different complications, and even when walking my two dogs, it was an incredibly easy way to access any app I want. Neither the new widget feature, nor the new app layout is close to that experience. Please bring it back, at least as on option. If it ain’t broken…

This needs to change ASAP. I’ve built up a habit of fast-switching between faces as a matter of routine, and now the swipe gesture is instead used for… absolutely nothing. The long-tap-then-swipe-then-tap gesture doesn’t look, feel, or work like business as usual: it’s frustrating and complicated and looks like a rarely-used edit feature, not something you’d do multiple times a day.

This is a very obvious mistake and needs to be reverted immediately.

Just adding my five cents of frustration. Kind of unbelievable actually that they would make such an iconic interaction for the watch so inefficient. I thought my watch was bugged at first. This face changing makes the watch inconvenient and annoying. Not fast at all. No more glancing quickly, no more quick swipe to check this open that. So stupid. I’m holding off on buying the new watch and I literally had it in my cart ready to upgrade.

i hope they read this and give us an option to go back to old ways. Anyone knows of a way to downgrade os on a watch?

I suspect it’s going to be a long time before I can say ‘these widgets are easier and quicker than 6 faces and 42 complications’.
I think the Apple are on the right track, but they have a very long way to go.

One of the things I've learned about technology is that the only thing you can be absolutely certain of is that just when you've gotten it all figured out, it will change.

It seems Apple isn’t aware that complications no longer provide quick access to anything- except for complications on the current face.

Or, based on the vast amount of user data Apple has compiled, they are aware that the percentage of users who used multiple faces in one day is small and not the demographic they want to focus on.

Yep; only 2000 'me too' s. It's a small cohort. Maybe the vast majority of users don't use more than (say)15 apps/complications.

I think it could be "multiple faces" Period. Not "multiple faces in one day".

It would explain why there's a maximum of 7 widgets in the new Smart Stack.

I now use only one face (with 8 complications), widgets and Siri. Things like like email, messages , phone, stocks, and weather complications are gone.

Yes, that's a small cohort of all Apple Watch users.

I use multiple faces. But, I change them rarely enough that pressing and holding isn't onerous and is worth the fact that I don't end up with a face I don't want by accident.

This is the first iteration of Smart Stack so, it might change. But, the idea isn't to put everything in Smart Stack. Its end goal is to provide you with the things you're likely to need at a particular time and place.

Are you saying you don't have those complications anymore? Or you don't have room for them? I have access to all of those complications.
