After WatchOS 10 update I cannot swipe between watch faces

Not sure if this is just me or did Apple just remove the ability to swipe between watch faces? After updating, the only way to get to the neighboring watch face is to long-press to (brings up the edit button) and then I can move to a neighboring watch face. If that's intentional, that sucks. I use four neighboring faces for different purposes and am swiping between them constantly. This will make using the watch very laborious for me.

If it is not an intentional removal of a critical feature, and it's just me. What do I do to restore that most basic of functions? The watch is a Series 5 white ceramic.

Thanks.

WatchOS 10.2 is out and the swipe to change the watch face is now an option to toggle on and off.

Go to Settings>Clock.

It is a tradition of very long standing that watchmakers take advertising photos of their watches showing 10:08, 10:09 or 10:10, including Apple. This is a play off of that tradition.

As Steve Wozniak observed, Apple is in the jewellery business now. This is the way faces are shown in the Face Gallery on the iPhone Watch app.

It amazes me that someone thought the user would like to see a half-second glimpse of the Face Gallery as they swipe to a different face.

I can’t wait for WatchOS11.

Me too. But I think half a second is too short. It’s Glances taken too far. The length of time the gallery face is displayed should be an option. Ranging from (say) zero to five seconds in steps of one hundredth. So those who don’t appreciate little flourishes can turn it off.

Haven't we talked about Apple's long history of not giving options? ;-)

……. And if you switch back and forth between faces, everything should already be current.

I suspect, and I know I could easily be wrong, you’ve highlighted a fundamental difference between WatchOS 9 and 10 in the underlying architecture . Which means regardless of how changing faces is accomplished there is a slight delay in displaying current information in OS 10, which didn’t happen in OS 9. As I said, just a guess.

If you press the watch face and hold it, it will trigger the faces to appear and you can swipe.
It took me a while to discover. Annoying but at least it’s still there.

If you go to Settings on the Watch (not on iPhone). , scroll to Clock. There’s an option to “Swipe to Switch Watch Face”. Toggle on and you can swipe like Watch OS 9.

I want to express real, smiling gratitude to Apple generally and especially to whomever there made the decision to restore (as an option) the ability to swipe between watch faces. This fuction is so fundamental to the Apple Watch experience - you can swipe between screens on iPhone, iPad, and the Mac - so it felt obvious on the watch. It's removal was so unthinkable that the watch ceased, for me, to feel like an Apple experience. It ceased to be magical. Now that magic is back, and I love my Apple Watch again. I had halted plans to get a Series 9, but will now be getting one as soon as possible. Thank you. Seriously. Very much. Highest Regards, Joe Cunningham

So many of the tools are cumbersome to use. I wonder who designed this new version… I keep threatening to leave Apple products all together, but don’t because interfacing is easier… was easier than other devices. We’re brainwashed. I think it’s time to look at the Pixal or Samsung, ugh.

I looked for the setting to be able to simply swipe without having to long press and I cannot find it -- it does not appear to be under the clock setting as noted above. Can you please tell me exactly where to find this setting? I also use multiple faces with difference complications for an easy glance and I prefer the old swipe. Thank you.
