After WatchOS 10 update I cannot swipe between watch faces

Yes you can still switch between faces. All you need to do is tap and hold down on the face. Then you can see your entire pre made watch face menu and pike the one you want yo see in the moment.

They did in watchOS 10.2

But turning what was a single gesture action into a triple motion press/swipe/press is ludicrously over complicating what was a simple and intuitive control that after 4 years with my series 5 is very much ingrained in muscle memory.

I WAS going to upgrade to the series 9 this year but now I’m not so sure.

I agree (and I’ve already complained thru feedback), but Apple have redesigned the UI so that navigating to a complication on a watch face is no longer the primary route to information. Very disappointing if you used Infograph and Modular and carefully set up your complications I am disappointed there’s no way to set up the Smart Stack on the phone. Doing it on the watch is fiddly.

This is such a bad change. I also normally would use multiple faces daily and just swiping to change it was quick, easy and convenient. But now I have found myself using the watch less and less.

Every single time I need to change the face it takes longer, is less user friendly and I am reminded of what has been taken away.

Yet again, the devs treat you like children trying to protect you from something that really didn't need to be changed. At least put it back and give us the option.

This desire to add function at the expense of usability, this "just one more click" mentality is counter to Steve Job's vision of make it work and make it simple.

Free the finger and bring back the swipe!

The Infograph face has up to 8 complications, but even so - A single face with 8 complications , plus 7 widgets in the new Smart Stack, plus 3 more complications - still isn’t enough for me .

In os9 I had 3 Infograph faces and 3 Modular faces , that’s 42 complications.

It’s impossible to reconfigure my 6 faces to fit the new os10 UI with only one face plus full use of the Smart Stack. Unfortunately, using more than one face, the swiping limitation really ruins the whole experience.

Here’s part of the June 6 Press Release from Apple. It may help to understand how this issue has arisen. As usual Apple are very hot on trumpeting what’s new so we can “experience Apple Watch like never before “ - that’s true!

We’re also introducing the Smart Stack, offering quick access to proactive and relevant information, right from the watch face.”

Apple is not read this.

Apple most likely made the change because less sophisticated users did not understand swiping, and got their Apple Watches into modes they did not know how to get out of. At least with buttons, users are likely to push them and discover the advanced features.

There are hundreds of other weather apps available in the App Store, many of them with Watch versions. And many of them are free or at least free to try. Perhaps one of them would suit you better.

Based on the Watch os10 Press Release and the Event it seems to me Apple thought swiping between widgets would be better than swiping between faces. Unfortunately there are no third party widgets (yet!). And without a ‘Favourites ‘ function any additional apps would only appear in ‘All Apps’. It’s a dog’s breakfast really.

Alternatively, if Siri doesn’t work for you, add the Timers widget to the Smart Stack, . If Timers are really critical then you could pin the Timer widget to the top of the stack. Not ideal I know, but that’s where we are right now.

It’s very frustrating, over the past couple of weeks my use of the watch has significantly declined. I’ve chosen my top 8 complications and put them on the Infograph face - and I use Siri. No multiple faces , no swiping, no widgets. I’ve spent hours trying to make OS10 work for me and given up.

I agree, Apple should not have hobbled the OS9 way of swiping between faces.

It doesn’t need to be a “swipe”; touch the watch face anywhere with a slight upward movement and the stack (or central app) launches.
