Contact Posters Disabled in iOS 17

Loaded iOS 17 but when I go to my Contact details, although Contact Posters is shown as an option, it also says "Disabled".

Most of the online solutions say go via the Contacts Poster option to Contact Poster settings - this is not possible when it is Disabled.

Any help please?

The most likely reason why your Contact Poster is disabled is because you have disabled Name & Photo Sharing. This setting controls whether your name and photo are shared with other people when you call them.

To check this setting, go to the Phone app and tap Edit in the top-left corner. Then, tap on your name card. Under Contact Photo & Poster, make sure that the toggle for Name & Photo Sharing is enabled.

If the toggle is already enabled, then the problem may be something else. Here are a few other things you can try:

  • Restart your iPhone.
  • Reset your network settings. To do this, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  • Make sure that your iPhone is up to date with the latest version of iOS. To check for updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
  • If you're still having problems, contact Apple Support for help.

Note: Even if you enable Name & Photo Sharing, the other person will still need to have iOS 17 installed in order to see your Contact Poster.

I think I may have figured it out. I went to my Messages app... then clicked on the three dots in the top right... then clicked on Set Up Name and Photo... it gave me a prompt that said, "Sharing Name and Photo is not available because multiple phone numbers are associated to your Apple ID".

I have two phones with different phone numbers... my personal and my work phone. Not sure how to get around or resolve this.

I found another way around this annoying iOS 17 poster feature, to keep it off my contact list. Just don't let the Apple Contacts-app manage it. Rather let the Google->Contacts app manage it from a web-browser. Makes it easier than doing a transfer-waltz for each iOS device on your account. That way no contacts are stored on phone and/or SIM. To have Google->Contacts manage your iPhone contacts exclusively, go to Settings->Contacts->Accounts->Gmail. (If Gmail doesn't exist, "Add" it.) It's my preference to only allow Gmail to manage my "Contacts" and/or "Calendars". Before you disable "Contacts" from other non-Gmail accounts in this list, be you transfer your contacts to Google->Contacts. Then, instead of letting the iOS-17 Contacts-app decide for you on new contacts with this relentless and annoying poster feature. Manage (add, edit, delete) your Contacts via the Google-Contacts, and they will automagically show up on your phone without the annoying contact poster.

Thanks for your quick reply but, as I said in my post, on my name card, although Contact Photo and Poster shows, it shows "Disabled" and nothing happens when I touch it so I cannot get to the toggle that you talk about.

I've done the restart iPhone and, obviously my phone's software is up to date as I've just loaded iOS 17

Other Contacts in my contacts list show Contact Poster and Photo but they are not Disabled.

thanks for trying - Apple Support may be my next call.
