Contact Posters Disabled in iOS 17

Loaded iOS 17 but when I go to my Contact details, although Contact Posters is shown as an option, it also says "Disabled".

Most of the online solutions say go via the Contacts Poster option to Contact Poster settings - this is not possible when it is Disabled.

Any help please?

The most likely reason why your Contact Poster is disabled is because you have disabled Name & Photo Sharing. This setting controls whether your name and photo are shared with other people when you call them.

To check this setting, go to the Phone app and tap Edit in the top-left corner. Then, tap on your name card. Under Contact Photo & Poster, make sure that the toggle for Name & Photo Sharing is enabled.

If the toggle is already enabled, then the problem may be something else. Here are a few other things you can try:

  • Restart your iPhone.
  • Reset your network settings. To do this, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  • Make sure that your iPhone is up to date with the latest version of iOS. To check for updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update.
  • If you're still having problems, contact Apple Support for help.

Note: Even if you enable Name & Photo Sharing, the other person will still need to have iOS 17 installed in order to see your Contact Poster.

Thanks for this - I think you may have found the reason. I did exactly the same as you - Messages/Name and Photo and received the same error message. I have 2 phone numbers associated with my Apple ID, each on separate phones.

If I choose to edit the photo on my contact card and choose to create a new photo, I am given the option to "Choose your Poster" and then can select and edit a photo but the menu item still say "Disabled".

Can't think of any way of solving this other than a major re-arrangement of my Apple identity, which seems like too much effort.

Thanks again.

Never had this issue before IOS 17, still continuing after 2 more updates. Husband and I have 2 phones, 2 separate numbers, one Apple ID. Each receives just their own phone calls and texts and have done do for years. We share contacts/photos, etc. But now when I call someone, it pops up on their phone as my husband’s name. Tried multiple times to change. If I put my name as the “my card” on contacts on my phone, it changes his phone to read my name and vice-versa. Bottom line, “my card” (and new contact poster, if I did one)on both phones are identical with only one of our names for both, therefore one is incorrect. Each phone mirrors the other, which is what a receiver of a call sees, even though the correct number shows, but name is wrong. Deregistering does not work.  Just spent over an hour with an Apple Rep who is up streaming my issue to whoever, as he tried everything to fix without success. So, if you have two phones with same Apple ID, both will show the same name/poster, cannot have separate names. Ugh!

After IOS 17 updated, it’s wrecked the operation of my phone. Verizon said wait for the next update. Spent two weeks trying to straighten out my phone. They want to sell me another phone. Why would I want another iPhone if Apple can’t fix this one. Ridiculous! I have two users on one Apple account also. As suggested took banners off. Can’t get it fixed.
