After latest update IOS 17, iphone 13 mini wont get anymore sound notifications. Calls are normal.

After iOS 17.2.1 the whole notifications cocktail involving the iPhone and Apple Watch is a complete disaster, utter shambles. I receive an SMS yet I get NO notification sound AT ALL on either the phone or the watch and no visible indication that I have received an SMS either, nothing, I literally have no idea I have received a message unless I open the app! Nothing on the watch and nothing / no badge on the phone. Yet I can open up Messages on the watch or the phone and can see them all sat there, unread. What's the point of having these insanely expensive devices if they can't even perform the most basic phone functions? This will be the last Apple purchase for me. Sure Android has its problems but Apple is total shambles at the moment! I get the feeling Apple is trying to be way more clever than it actually is, trying to link and mirror too many things and when the wheel comes off it comes off big time, and takes way to long to put back on!!!
All notification Sounds are only sounding on my watch.
If I’m using the phone , the notification sound will sound on the phone. If screen is black the notification sound is on my watch. I have banners , notifications center and lock screen checked! I have updated to ios17.0.3
Phone does ring when I have a call even on black screen!
iPhone 13
Text notifications no longer work unless banners are turned on, something that’s never happened before. Plus what’s app banners appear even though they are turned off. It’s really frustrating I’ve contacted support twice and nothing they’ve suggested has worked.
The notification sounds are about 75% quieter than phone call ringing. Why the volume level is separate now is beyond me… but it should have a separate volume control. If anything I’d flip that setting but prefer it all being level.
also, even with the new apple alert tones, some text messages and sounds just don’t come through when the phone is locked.
HOWEVER - they work fine if im using my phone. Which is useless because I don’t need the sound when a banner is flashing in front of my face but I do need it when I’m not holding the phone.
How did such an issue get rolled out in a major update? I’d rather you ship late than ship so buggy.
I'm seeing an issue where my Apple Watch will have a notification in the Notification Center, but intermittently won't vibrate, most frequently with my email through Spark. I just had an email come through with my phone unlocked and it also didn't vibrate or show its banner. I'm on Watch OS 10.0.2 and iOS 17.0.3. My 13 pro worked fine on 17.0.1, so I thought the bug was from transferring all the data from the 13 pro to 15 PM. I reset all content and settings on the 15 and still am having the issue occur.
Hopefully this is resolved quickly, since I use my watch extensively to check if a notification is important if I'm busy and not looking at my phone.
That's how it is for me. Newly after installing iOS 17, with watchOS 10 installed, regardless of other settings, it is only by setting in the Watch app "Notifications > Custom > Notifications Off" for Mail and Messages, that those apps' notifications sounds play on my phone while it is locked, but at the expense of them ever playing on my watch.
Previously it all worked perfectly: all apps played a sound on both devices, regardless of lock screen state, when they were set to play a notification sound on both devices.

Thanks for noting this. I turned this off for messages, and sure enough it sounds and displays on the phone while I have my watch on. Incredibly annoying.
On a related note, Apple support had me jumping through numerous hoops, and spending a great deal of time trying to solve a different problem a few weeks ago. Had I just Googled that problem first, I would have realized it was widely reported. Yet both the agent on the phone, and the one at the Apple store, claimed to have never heard of it. Either Apple leaves front line support in the dark, or does inform them, but insists they do not acknowledge this to customers. Either way, it's pretty terrible, and makes me sympathetic for front line support.
I found that my sleep focus schedule wasn’t working and that sleep mode was always active.
Is there a bed in the top left hand corner of your screen?
I deleted the sleep focus profile and notifications started working again.

I’m so disappointed that this hasn’t been fixed.
Still no sounds unless I have a banner.
This isn’t convenient at all.
As others have said this has been a long time since update which has caused this fault.
It’s also quite irritating reading these posts are being deleted and others who speak with Apple have not been reassured that it’s going to be fixed. In fact it seems there are some operatives who aren’t aware of this issue.
Very Odd that not all iPhone users have this issue.
Hello everyone. I have the same issue on my iphone 14 pro max. I contacted apple support and they have send me the following notification.
Notifications on Apple Watch
Customize how often and how you receive notifications on your Apple Watch so you can respond immediately or check them whenever it's convenient for you.
Where notifications appear
Notifications appear on your Apple Watch or iPhone, but not both.
iPhone showing notifications pushed to iPhone instead of Apple Watch
If your iPhone is unlocked, you get notifications on your iPhone instead of your Apple Watch.
Apple Watch showing notifications pushed to Apple Watch instead of iPhone
If your iPhone is locked or in sleep mode, you receive notifications on your Apple Watch, unless your Apple Watch is locked.
Some apps, like the Noise app, are only available on your Apple Watch. Notifications for these apps don't appear on iPhone.
When there are unread notifications, the red notifications icon appears at the top of your watch face. If you want to hide the notifications icon, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap Notifications, then turn off Show Notifications.
When you read or dismiss notifications on your Apple Watch, they are also dismissed on your iPhone.
View and interact with a notification
When a notification appears, you can tap it to see more options. Depending on the app that sent the notification, you can reply to a message, return a call, archive an email, and more.
Apple Watch showing a missed call notification
If the Apple Watch screen is dark and inactive, full-screen notifications appear. When you use your Apple Watch, notifications appear in a banner at the top of the screen.
How to see all unread Apple Watch notifications
Touch and hold the top of the watch face to open Notification Center. You can do this from any screen.
Wait until the Notification Center appears and then swipe down.
Turn the Digital Crown to scroll or swipe up and down on the watch face.
Tap the notification to read it. To read grouped notifications, tap a stack, then tap a notification.
To delete a notification, swipe left, then tap the delete button .
How to clear all unread Apple Watch notifications
Touch and hold the top of the watch face to open Notification Center.
Rotate the Digital Crown or swipe down on the watch face until you reach the top.
Tap Clear All.
Apple Watch showing the Clear All button for notifications
How to mute or disable an app's notifications on your Apple Watch
Touch and hold the top of the watch face.
Wait until the Notification Center appears and then swipe down.
Swipe left on the notification you want to mute or disable, then tap the More button.
Choose from the settings available for that app. Depending on the app, you can mute notifications for the rest of the day, turn them off for an hour, or turn them off completely.
Apple Watch showing the Mute Notifications screen
If you want an app's notifications to appear again, you can turn them on:
Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, then tap the My Watch tab.
Tap Notifications.
Scroll down the list of installed apps and then enable the app you want to receive notifications from.
Adjust your Apple Watch notification settings
Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, then tap the My Watch tab.
Tap Notifications.
Tap an app to see its options. To use the same notification settings in apps that appear on both your Apple Watch and your iPhone, tap Mirror iPhone. In some apps you can customize your notifications. Tap Customize, then select an option:
Notifications Allowed: Notifications appear in Notification Center and your Apple Watch notifies you.
Send to Notification Center: Notifications are sent directly to the Notification Center
I experienced this too. I just looked in notifications and sound was set to Zing. When I tapped to change that I saw that Zing is no longer a sound that is listed as an option. I set notification sound to one of the sounds listed and we'll see if it works! Literally just did this so haven't received a message yet but wanted to share in case it helps anyone.
I hope that apple will take that issue into consideration and fix the problem. It is very annoying that you get notification on the watch and the iPad or your Mac, but not on iPhone while it is locked. We are too many facing that issue.
Yeah I’ve been looking into this a lot ….non of the YouTube tech guys are mentioning it …when you google “no text notification after ios17” only this thread come up …it’s definitely a issue but I guess not big enough yet 😑😑
I am also encountering an issue where I don't get like notifications from Instagram anymore after the update. I'll get DMs, comment notifications, etc and they are all the same, quiet sound but I don't get the like notifications for any of my posts coming across my lock screen anymore since I updated to iOS 17. I've tried going into settings on both IG and in the general Phone settings, I've logged out/logged back into IG, I've rebooted my phone but still don't get the notifications anymore? Is this happening for anyone else and is there a way to fix this?
It's totally crazy what apple did to all of us with the new update, we can't have any notification in any app.on our iphone.
I lost sounds that I had from old ringtones, messages, email etc, we have no information from third parties. They should fix this for all of us. As it was before. We should get notifications at the same time as it was before in all our Apple devices. We pay too much to have these devices and face these issues. Mercy. I hope that the next update will fix this issue for everyone.

Please ask your question in a new post in this group as it has nothing to do with notifications and I or someone else here may be able to help you work through your issue there.
