Go to settings, go to notifications, go to Messages. Now make sure you have one of these selected. Mine was grey and didn’t have one selected. When I chose Notification Center my sound came back! 😎✌🏼

My Ip12 pro max didn’t get any notifications after updating. Checked all the notifications settings all are enabled. Frustrated by this, I ‘reset all settings’ in general. After finished, I go one by one on the app where the first time you open the app after rest, there will be a pop-up box where it asked you to either allow notifications or not and click allow on the apps that I wanted to be notified and clicked do not allow on the apps that I don’t want to be notified. It’s been working fine. But it will be a haste since you need to set up everything again just like new phone though the data will not be lost.

After the iOS 17 update, I was not receiving iMessage notifications with sound unless the app was open on my phone. I had to enable iMessage notifications on my Lock Screen before I was able to receive the sound notifications. Enabling just Banners was not enough to get the text sounds on my iPhone SE, but enabling just the Lock Screen was.

I hope this is just a bug because I don't want iMessage notifications on my Lock Screen.

I got those notification sounds work at whatsapp like this: Iphone settings -> notifications -> srocll down and click whatsapp -> here are three options: locked sreen, notification centre and banners.

At least one of those options have been cheked (and "sounds" below also enabled), after that you get whatsapp sound notifications.

Ios 16 dosent required any of those three options cheked and still alerts worked in apps

Since the IOS17 update my notification sounds disappeared. I went into the apple store today only to find out that if I want notification sounds then I must have the banners enabled in order for the notification sounds to work.

This is extremely frustrating because since my first Iphone (Iphone 4) my banners have always been disabled due to privacy and I never had any issues getting only the sound notifications up until now.

I hope apple fixes this back to how it was specially for privacy due to reasons.

Hi I’m not sure if you’ve solved this. This happened to me as well after I got the new 15. If you have an Apple Watch, turns out you can no longer get dual notifications on both your watch and phone. So you have to turn off the message notifications on your watch or you will only get them on your watch. Another workaround is disconnecting Bluetooth but that means you won’t have access to AirPlay, airdrop, etc. Hope this helps.

Passing along what worked for me, as this issue was driving me crazy for weeks, changing every imaginable setting, resetting, etc.

I signed out of Messages on every other device. Not just turned off message forwarding — actually signed out from my laptops and iPad.

For me it did not matter if I wasn't using the device to send/receive messages — because the devices were not showing messages being received and I have never sent a message using anything but my phone.

So give it a try — make sure no other Apple device is using your Messages account.

What I have found is that if you do not have an alerts setting selected (Lock Screen, Notification Center, and/or Banners) your sounds will not work. As soon as I select one of these tada sounds started working for texts, snaps, etc. I personally like just the sound notifications without an alert type. Guess Apple feels like you need them.

I have solved this issue for me and my wife. We both have Apple Watches and all it took, after months of trying to find a solution, was to open the watch app and check the “send to Notification Center “ under Messages. I still haven’t figured out how to get Notifications on my watch and phone, but, at least it works on the phone again when the phone is locked.
