Notifications not working after iOS 17 Update

Already posted this but trying to link this with the most recent post so apologies for repeat posts, but :

Go into the watch app on your phone, look for and open passcode, then look for and turn OFF wrist detection.

Sorted the problem out for both myself and my wife's phone (and watch) - and works with phone locked/screen not on.

Hope it works for you too.

Had exactly the same problem and tried everything (focus settings, sound settings, notification settings, soft restart, hard restart etc) but no change.

Spent a good few days looking at and trying so-called solutions and nothing worked.

Then found a suggestion from some time back, tried it, and it actually worked and has sorted this issue out for both my phone and my wife's - it didn't involve switching off bluetooth as some posts suggest, and agreed, not a sensible thing to do.

We have different version iPhones and different series apple watches, but both phones running 17.3.

I have no idea why this worked but it has for us and we haven't lost or dropped any functionality from either the phone or watch other than "wrist detection" whatever benefit that gives...

Can someone out there just try what I've already posted as I'm curious to know if my wife and I have just been "lucky", or if this does indeed help a lot of the community.

All we did was turn OFF wrist detection (in passcode) in the watch app on your phone.

Do you have it turned on in Whatsapp settings and in iphone settings?

Do you have an Watch ?

Is any Focus active?

If you use classic alert sounds (I’m using Circles’ then you’ll be able to hear the sound alert. I think there is bug in new iOS 17 that needs to be resolved.

I had to select at least one of previews in notifications: Lock Screen, Notification Center, Banners to get the sound notification for messages

Hey everyone I had the same issue with no sound on my notifications when phone is on Lock Screen. Make sure to update to iOS 17.02 now my notifications are working after this last update .

following the iOS 17 update it seemed that my ‘do not disturb’ got stuck. I turned this off and on again and now notifications are coming through.

Settings>Notifications>Watch>Allow Notifications OFF. Result: get a sound notification for text on my phone now, though sadly, it is at the sacrifice of my watch notifications.

The ONLY WAY TO WORK OUT IS TURNING BLUETOOH OFF

I HAVING THE SAME FREAKING PROBLEM IS ANNOYINSO I FOUND OUT TURNING THE BLUETOOH OFF I GET MY SOUND NOTIFICATIONS BACK AGAIN Apple  NEEDS TO FIX THIS ASAP…

Turning on a banner for the app allows notification sounds to come thru...it's annoying if you don't like banners but at least you get the sound. I did this for messenger and snapchat and it works.

Hopefully the come out with the update to fix soon.

I experienced this too. I just looked in notifications and sound was set to Zing. When I tapped to change that I saw that Zing is no longer a sound that is listed as an option. I set notification sound to one of the sounds listed and we'll see if it works! Literally just did this so haven't received a message yet but wanted to share in case it helps anyone.

Had the same issue and solved it by activating all visual notifications with the sound also.

(lock screen + Notification center + Banner) even if i'm not a fan of displaying my chat alarm

Show preview is at : Never(default), so it's blank in the pop-up

That’s exactly how it is supposed to work now.

if you have an Apple Watch paired with an iPhone, the notification sounds only on your watch.

if you are not wearing the watch, then the notification sounds on your phone.

after iOS 17, it only sounds on one or the other!

I tried this on iPhone 12 pro. Go to settings > general > iPhone storage > select the app with the problem > offload app > delete app. Reinstall and notifications started working. Hope it helps.

I had the same issues and tried lot of things mentioned here and there and nothing worked. Till I tried the following:

Go to Sittings

Messages

Allow messages to access

Focus (un-click)

Then I now get sms messages normally like before the update.
