After iOS 17.2.1 the whole notifications cocktail involving the iPhone and Apple Watch is a complete disaster, utter shambles. I receive an SMS yet I get NO notification sound AT ALL on either the phone or the watch and no visible indication that I have received an SMS either, nothing, I literally have no idea I have received a message unless I open the app! Nothing on the watch and nothing / no badge on the phone. Yet I can open up Messages on the watch or the phone and can see them all sat there, unread. What's the point of having these insanely expensive devices if they can't even perform the most basic phone functions? This will be the last Apple purchase for me. Sure Android has its problems but Apple is total shambles at the moment! I get the feeling Apple is trying to be way more clever than it actually is, trying to link and mirror too many things and when the wheel comes off it comes off big time, and takes way to long to put back on!!!

I reported this as a bug on apple.com/feedback encourage others to do the same. Other annoying issues after the update are: Reminders, you cannot select a custom tone, just the defaults. Timer default tone is Radial and you cannot set it to Radar or any other you want. Manually you can set the tone for the Timer from the clock app. but when you ask Siri to set a timer, it defaults to radial...

Thanks for reporting a bug.

I got alert sound back for text messages (iMessage) after switching alert banner on for the lock screen. This is not how alert sounds should work. The setting I have now will consume more energy as it activates the display for each and every notification. Multiply that by hundreds of milions of devices across the globe and ... It is not good at all.

If it's also true that Apple do not allow me to take sounds from my home studio and use them as alert sounds anymore, how bad? What's the gain by adding such a limitation?

It should be nice and fun to personalize your phone a little.

I found a temporary solution til Apple fixes this as I like my privacy as well. I went to notifications and turned off show preview, scheduled summary and screen sharing. Then I went to Message and only turned on alerts for Notification Center and Badges. The sound came back when I got a text message and the only way anyone can see who sent it if I gave them my phone is to drag down from the top. And if you’ve already opened the text, that notification wouldn’t be there anyhow! Hope this helps

I have contacted Apple because I had the same issue on my iPhone 14 pro. They could only fix it by selecting banners, notification center, or lock screen. I kept telling the operator that I don't want that option. I only want the incoming sound like before. The selection of the three options lets the message appear which makes my privacy go away. I don't want anyone see my incoming messages from texts or any other forum. Apple still has no idea how to fix this.

fix this. I first talk to an apple operator on text, then a phone call. Both

couldn't figure out the problem. Text operator recommended I talked to an apple

operator. Then the phone operator couldn't figure it out and wanted to escalate

my claim to an engineer.

PLEASE APPLE FIX THIS IMMEDIATELY!

I have an iPhone 14 plus and use AirPod pro 2.

Theyve already made a 17.0.2 but it doesn’t fix THIS ISSUE. Go figure..

but I know there’s thousands and thousands of ppl with this issue. So obviously that’s not enough..

Its annoying and creates a real issue when we miss time sensitive texts and other notifications. But Yes call notifications are normal

Chatted with Apple and they act like they don’t know what is going on? I told them the default notification sound was to low and you can’t change it or make it louder and they wanted me to reset my phone. I said I know people that already did and it didn’t work. I don’t understand why they don’t want us to have control of 3rd party apps? So long story short they are no help and 100% they don’t care about the feedback.

I have updated to IOS 17.0.2 last night and turned of show notification in notification center to check if there was a fix; it no work! For those who want their sound alerts back, go to settings and in the notifications choose that app. and select show in notification center. Be wise in what you want to be shown on locked screen. This is a work around, not a fix! P.S. I hope you folks are writing to apple with your feedback at apple.com/feedback please report this as a bug on that page
