Go to settings, go to notifications, go to Messages. Now make sure you have one of these selected. Mine was grey and didn’t have one selected. When I chose Notification Center my sound came back! 😎✌🏼
Just discovered that everything works fine on phone if my apple watch is off my wrist. So now we only get notifications one place or the other?? Do not like it at all. I hope it’s a bug.
Easy fix. Open the Watch app and scroll down to Messages. Select custom and then select send to notification center.
I thought, what the heck will turning off bluetooth do? But it worked for me - for now. I am sure it will crop up again but I thank you for posting this.
Once again getting sound notifications.
This is 100% Apple issue. Can you change the default notification sound to something you can barely barely hear on non-apple apps, and there’s no way to change them or anything you can contact Apple about it because this is something they did on their end it doesn’t have to do with the other applications because it’s happening on WeatherBug, my security camera app, and pretty much all of them. I’m really hoping with the next update. They fix this because it does me no good to have notification sound alerts on when you can’t even hear. I feel really really bad for people that are hard of hearing.
I also could not hear any alerts from my security cameras after upgrading to iOS 17. It sucks!
I chatted and talked to Apple support. It felt like talking to a brick.
The push notification sound affects all third party apps.
Apple may not ever want to change it since it affects all non-Apple products. Dumb engineers!
I downgraded back to iOS 16.
Google Nest support is also no use. Good luck.
I have contacted Apple because I had the issue on my iPhone
14 pro. They could only fix it by selecting banners, notification center, or
lock screen. I kept telling the operator that I don't want that option. I only
want the incoming sound like before. The selection of the three options lets
the message appear which makes my privacy go away. I don't want anyone see my
incoming messages from texts or any other forum. Apple still has no idea how to
fix this. I first talk to an apple operator on text, then a phone call. Both
couldn't figure out the problem. Text operator recommended I talked to an apple
operator. Then the phone operator couldn't figure it out and wanted to escalate
my claim to an engineer.
PLEASE APPLE FIX THIS IMMEDIATELY!
@BigLucas7117 The volume buttons are not the ones you should ber be using to change the ringer volume. Settings/ Sounds and Haptics/ Ringer Volume you will have to set it from there. It has always been like that. However, when the phone is ringing and you quickly want to silence the ringer pressing the side button or the volume down button should silent the caller. Can't remember exactly, too much muscle memory. Be careful when using the side/ power button when on a call; if you have set prevent side button to end call as OFF; then it would disconnect the call. To prevent this from happening:
1. Go to Settings
2. Scroll down to Accessibility.
3. Under “Physical and Motor” section, select Touch.
4. Toggle on the switch next to Prevent Lock to End Call.
So here’s an update email I received from Apple.
Note: I provided them with multiple screenshots and diagnostic reports from my phone which has the same issues report here.
This was the response:
I received a response from Engineering this morning. At this point, they’ve collected all of the data that is needed regarding your case. I’ve been advised that the solution to the issue you are experiencing with notifications will likely come in the form of an iOS update.
There is no schedule for an update release; however, when an update comes out, please go ahead and complete the update. Engineering will alert me when an update has been released that they feel should resolve the issue but that alert frequently comes a bit late.
Please let me know of any changes to the behavior you are experiencing and/or if an update resolves the issue for you. I look forward to the resolution.
Note: If it’s not fixed by Thursday of next week I’m simply just going to return the three 15 Pro Max iPhones I purchased for my family and I, as well as the Apple Watch Ultra 2. I’ll just give another phone brand a try.
I have the same issues with notifications. I called Apple and went through their steps and nothing was accomplished. If you enable stack list , banner in settings you may get sound. Apple tried to tell me I need an alert tone to work for text or alert tone for email. I recently purchased a SMS alert tone and I can NOT assign tone to text. The alert went straight in to ring tone. Apple needs to fix this problem
after the 17.1 and .2 updates...Yes, my notifications for all texts are silent also, even SIRI doesn't announce through airpods.I don't have any app notifications on so i can't attest through that. Phone still rings through. But i am missing ALL my texts, after countless turning off/on, checking sounds/haptics, messages and notifications in setting....Nothing
Spent cumulative 75 minutes on calls with apple support and they know nothing about this issue, they say not one person has ever reported this problem, which i find hard to believe. I see there is as of right now 919 other people who thumb this up with ME TOO...
Their suggestion for me is to do a hard re-set and do an engineering test or something like that which i do not want to do.Hopefully they fix this soon with another update.
I contacted Apple support on September 23 and told them my notifications were all silent after I updated to ios17. I was on the phone for an hour and the apple representative told me he had not hear of this issue. After trying different settings he told me it must be because I have an Apple Watch. He asked me to unpair my watch and then pair it again! Should fix the issue he said! DID NOT.
iPhone 13.
I downloaded 17.0.3 and it did not make a difference to my iPhone 14 Pro. I spent two hours on the phone with Apple support yesterday, (October 3, 2023), and they were not able to do anything to fix the fact that sounds are no longer associated with the notifications on my apps.
The day before I was on the phone with Apple support, and after I did what the advisor told me to do, I lost the alert tones that I had purchased from the iTunes store, and then to make matters worse, my phone would not download anything at all. This is why I had to spend two hours with Apple support yesterday. After they were able to fix the downloading issue, they told me that they were aware of the problem with the notifications and the associated sounds, and that "most likely" there will be a fix coming in a software update. Of course no one could say when that "fix" would be happening so until then we all suffer in silence.
I was so frustrated by this problem that I seriously contemplated switching to the new Samsung Galaxy S24 or their full size foldable phone but since I just got the iPhone 14 Pro three months ago I owe too much on it to be feasible.
All I can say is that people continue to notify Apply about this problem and maybe with enough "noise" being made they will expedite a fix. Good luck and please continue to notify if you find a way to fix this problem.
I have tried all of the suggestions that others have posted, however, none of them have fixed the problem that I am having. The issue that I am facing is that the ringtones that I purchased from the iTunes store do work, and they are assigned for specific people. I also had purchased an alert tone from the iTunes store that I use for my message alert. That also works.
The problem that I am having, and have spent several hours on the phone with Apple support is that the sound notification for apps that I have downloaded is not working. For example, I downloaded the "CBS Sports" app and when there was a change in score for the teams that I am monitoring, it provided a notification by sending a default Apple sound. I was fine with that, but as soon as I updated to iOS 17.0.2, the default sound stopped, and now all I get is a faint mechanical sounding clunk.
When I go into "NOTIFICATIONS" and then I see the "CBS SPORTS" app listed, and then when I press on the "CBS SPORTS" app, my "Allow Notifications" is active, all of my alerts... i.e. "Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners" are checked, the "BANNER STYLE" is set to "Temporary", and then under that is the choice for "SOUNDS". The "SOUNDS" selection is also active (showing green), but when I press on it which would ostensibly allow me to choose the sound that I want to assign to the CBS SPORTS app, nothing happens.
I can turn the "SOUNDS" on and off, but it does not allow you to select anything. It is like there are just no sounds available which I know is not true.
I absolutely do not know what to do because it seems that Apple is just ignoring all of this. Look, I like my iPhone 14 Pro, but the facts are that Apple is a trillion dollar company and unless it affects its bottom line, nothing is likely to be done quickly if at all.
I do agree with one of the other people who have posted, and what they said is that we all have to inundate Apple with complaints. If anyone can even notify a tech writer (preferably someone who writes about phones), then perhaps something will happen. In the meantime, if anyone has any sort of solution that works, please post it. Thanks!
Just did the update a couple of days ago and had this same issue on my 14. Only thing that fixed it was allowing texts, calls, messenger, etc to show on my Lock Screen which is absolutely not okay. I get texts with sensitive information. I plan to report it to Apple because this is unacceptable.
I have the same issue made worse by a senior who had me reset my phone. Put in banners. That at least will give you a notification. Also some senior just had me I think go to settings. Messages. Turn notifications center off then on or on then off. That doe something. Pretty dumb Apple doesn’t have iPhones to help us trouble shoot. I’m supposed to call someone at midnight to text
