After iOS 17.2.1 the whole notifications cocktail involving the iPhone and Apple Watch is a complete disaster, utter shambles. I receive an SMS yet I get NO notification sound AT ALL on either the phone or the watch and no visible indication that I have received an SMS either, nothing, I literally have no idea I have received a message unless I open the app! Nothing on the watch and nothing / no badge on the phone. Yet I can open up Messages on the watch or the phone and can see them all sat there, unread. What's the point of having these insanely expensive devices if they can't even perform the most basic phone functions? This will be the last Apple purchase for me. Sure Android has its problems but Apple is total shambles at the moment! I get the feeling Apple is trying to be way more clever than it actually is, trying to link and mirror too many things and when the wheel comes off it comes off big time, and takes way to long to put back on!!!
Yes mine is for work and home, which means I have teenage kids and home security apps I cannot miss time sensitive messages and alerts.
Samsung and other Android phones are used by the military for tech and security. They will not use Apple products.
Let that be a reference point
That is not how it worked before ios 17 update. I have several custom made ringtones created via iTunes on windows 10 system that have worked for years, and now they are broken. There is no logical reason why those ringtone files cannot be listed and used as sounds for all the apps controlled via the same settings app that controls the ringtone for the phone. Don't try to baffle us with bs about now suddenly needing to pay apple for ringtones just to provide the same functionality that came for free just a few days ago.
Just one more day left before I return all three 15 pro max’s and my Ultra 2. This is unacceptable. Still no update or fix. I’m not waiting past my return day only to be stuck with these laggy, semi functional notification iPhones. Not for the amount of money I just paid.
This can occur sometimes when you setup a new phone by restoring from a previous cloud backup.
Some apps may be still using the previous phones push notification token which is specific to each device.
Most apps will update the token on app launch so hard closing and relaunching app should fix the issue for these apps. Some apps may have a different logic as to how and where it stores the push notification token of your device on their servers.
For whatsapp I think just hard closing and opening the app should reset the token. You may also restart your phone as well to make sure. For messages I believe you need to restart the phone.
This may not be a fix for all who are experiencing this but hopefully will help some. Also as mentioned do be sure to check your focus settings and obviously notification settings for each app you are having issues with.
I contacted Apple support on September 23 and told them my notifications were all silent after I updated to ios17. I was on the phone for an hour and the apple representative told me he had not hear of this issue. After trying different settings he told me it must be because I have an Apple Watch. He asked me to unpair my watch and then pair it again! Should fix the issue he said! DID NOT.
iPhone 13.
Apple better fix this ASAP I had an alarm set and its so dam quiet I never heard it!!! I am tired off them of apple deleting my messages also for speaking telling the truth!!! This is ridiculous now and needs to be fixed!!!!!
This is so infuriating…how much longer before a software fix! I just spent a good penny on the iPhone 15. Completely unacceptable. I also don’t understand why it affects only certain phones. My husband’s is completely unaffected.
That update fixed it on MY end.
Friend still is getting the "notifications silenced" message when text is sent to me. But now I get the notification / tone, but she may have to reboot her iPhone to fix it on her end, or update her phone as well.
I find it funny they have all these notification issues for three weeks and FEMA has that EAS broadcast today and NOW Apple comes out with a New update AFTERWARDS!
Does anyone else not find that odd? I told a friend this exact thing would happen and it did. I honestly think I am done with Apple now. Just gotta wiggle my way out of this “FREE” phone contract lol
Yall keep posting if 17.0.3 fixed anything. I’m curious and doubt I’ll download it.
Updated to 17.0.3 still issue with notifications. Just to clarify, my issue is I get notification tone on my apple watch ultra but no actual messages are showing up so that I can't read them. The temp workaround is to tick "notification centre" which is huge privacy issue for me. Apples need to fix this. No issue with iOS 16.
Here’s my update. I updated to 17.0.3 and confirmed that it DID fix my notifications issue. Apple pulled off a buzzer beater because I was planning on returning all three 15 Pro Max and my Ultra 2 tomorrow.
Also, I’m not sure why it’s only fixing some iPhones and not all. People should post what iPhone version and iOS they have to maybe narrow it down somewhat.
My Phone: 15 Pro Max / iOS 17.0.3
I downloaded 17.0.3 and it did not make a difference to my iPhone 14 Pro. I spent two hours on the phone with Apple support yesterday, (October 3, 2023), and they were not able to do anything to fix the fact that sounds are no longer associated with the notifications on my apps.
The day before I was on the phone with Apple support, and after I did what the advisor told me to do, I lost the alert tones that I had purchased from the iTunes store, and then to make matters worse, my phone would not download anything at all. This is why I had to spend two hours with Apple support yesterday. After they were able to fix the downloading issue, they told me that they were aware of the problem with the notifications and the associated sounds, and that "most likely" there will be a fix coming in a software update. Of course no one could say when that "fix" would be happening so until then we all suffer in silence.
I was so frustrated by this problem that I seriously contemplated switching to the new Samsung Galaxy S24 or their full size foldable phone but since I just got the iPhone 14 Pro three months ago I owe too much on it to be feasible.
All I can say is that people continue to notify Apply about this problem and maybe with enough "noise" being made they will expedite a fix. Good luck and please continue to notify if you find a way to fix this problem.
I have iPhone 14 pro max. I’m getting text and calls notifications. Still not getting any notifications for 3rd party apps especially security cameras no sound or a notification I’ve done all updates. I’ve checked all settings tried everything and nothing. I’m giving them till Friday then trading this in for something that works.
That indicates your cellular carrier or recipient is blocking you.
It has nothing to do with Apple or iOS.
Messages to Android get sent via SMS, which is a cellular carrier function, rather than via iMessage, which requires only Internet access.
That simply isn’t true; most users have no issues exchanging SMS messages with others, and there’s nothing Apple or iOS could do to generate a message that states “Message Blocking is Active.”
Have you contacted your cellular carrier for further assistance?
