To start with: I'm not intending to say that the cause of this problem is due this or this. I only want the iOS users where I work to be able to print the way they was able before 17 and to know what has caused the problem not how to "make it to away".
I have read the 5 step "turn it off and on again solution" and I have read that it seem to work on some devices in some networks.
When a solution to a problem is to "turn it off and on" the problem is doomed to come back until the actual cause is fixed. This might work in a SOHO environment but not in larger organisations where the device count on both iOS/IpadOS devices and printers it counted in hundreds or thousands.
I wan't to add one thing that I've made in a quest to find what's the cause of this.
We have thousands of client devices and >1000 iPads in the organization where I work and we immediately blocked upgrade to iOS/iPadOS 17 when we understood that AirPrint stopped working after upgrading to 17.x.
I have tried to get iPads back to 16 but so far the only model that I could do it with has been with iPad gen 6.
Result: AirPrint worked like before when they did run on 16. Nothing was done on printers (server handled, not SOHO devices), router (large firewall), DNS'es or any other parts of the network. Just downgraded the devices to 16.
I just did the following on one iPad 6 gen:
Running on 16.7.2: AirPrint printers visible.
Restore from 16.7.2 to 17.1 via DFU - result: No AirPrint printers visible.
Restore from 17.1 to 16.7.2 via DFU - result: AirPrint printers visible.
Restore from 16.7.2 to 17.1 via DFU - result: No AirPrint printers visible.
Restore from 17.1 to 16.7.2 via DFU - result: AirPrint printers visible.
No other changes in the network environment was made.
How many times shall this be performed back and forth to get statistics if AirPrint works or not until this is seen as something that was introduced / changed (maybe not a real bug) in 17 since the problem isn't in 16.7.2 but in 17.x.?
As I wrote in the beginning I'm not on a quest to whine about this or that. I just wan't my users to be able to use AirPrint as before 17.x
Thank you for bringing this up. I have had nothing but problems and tried the HP manufacturers direct print, also all the helpful tip on getting this issue resolved. It works but then it stops and now I can't get it to re-connect. This did not happen before the new software now I can't print anything on any apple device. I have an iphone 11, ipad, and a mac. My question is, if it connected previously then why does it disconnect after trying to reboot, router, adding printer, turning all off and on. This is crazy and very frustrating. Can they do a software patch to fix this. Printing is a basic necessity. I bought a new printer thinking maybe that would fix it. Please help!
I do not see it as my problem if Apple are updating and cause users problems. Apple appear to be increasingly unaware and not bothered if they inconvenience people that have bought Apple products and it is increasingly likely that customers will go elsewhere. The printers details have been used by my i pad for three years. It is Apple that appear less than competent in maintaining printing capacity.
Well, it worked for someone else, and I have no problem with iOS 17, so it is something in your network. Are you using VPN, perhaps?
I updated to IOS 17 yesterday, 2 iPhone 14’s and my iPad Air, 8th gen., I can print from the iPhones but not from the iPad?
Delete the Norton VPN profile. Even if off it can mess up Wi-Fi.
I followed another suggestion , settings Wi-Fi, i , turn off “private Wi-Fi address”, and the printer works on my iPad now.
This didn’t work for me: I tried it twice with no fix. Was able to print fine before installing IOS 17
Мне помогло вот это - в настройках своей сети Wi-Fi выключил "Частный адрес Wi-Fi" и AirPrint заработал как и прежде.
Tried again turning off iPad, printer, router and then back on again. Worked on the second try. Thanks.
Read the post right above yours.
I followed all the steps 2 times, still won’t print from my iPad, I can print from my iPhone. I do have Norton VPN on my iPhones and iPad, but it’s is off on my home network as it is secure.
If you actually read the thread you posted to you can learn how others have fixed the problem, but if you would prefer just to post conspiracy theories that’s your choice.
In a business environment consult with your IT department.
I restarted my iPhone 14 Pro and that solved the problem.
A reset of my network on my iPhone 14 pro resolved the issue .
I was able to print through my home WiFi connection so I knew that the computer to printer was sound .
