To start with: I'm not intending to say that the cause of this problem is due this or this. I only want the iOS users where I work to be able to print the way they was able before 17 and to know what has caused the problem not how to "make it to away".
I have read the 5 step "turn it off and on again solution" and I have read that it seem to work on some devices in some networks.
When a solution to a problem is to "turn it off and on" the problem is doomed to come back until the actual cause is fixed. This might work in a SOHO environment but not in larger organisations where the device count on both iOS/IpadOS devices and printers it counted in hundreds or thousands.
I wan't to add one thing that I've made in a quest to find what's the cause of this.
We have thousands of client devices and >1000 iPads in the organization where I work and we immediately blocked upgrade to iOS/iPadOS 17 when we understood that AirPrint stopped working after upgrading to 17.x.
I have tried to get iPads back to 16 but so far the only model that I could do it with has been with iPad gen 6.
Result: AirPrint worked like before when they did run on 16. Nothing was done on printers (server handled, not SOHO devices), router (large firewall), DNS'es or any other parts of the network. Just downgraded the devices to 16.
I just did the following on one iPad 6 gen:
Running on 16.7.2: AirPrint printers visible.
Restore from 16.7.2 to 17.1 via DFU - result: No AirPrint printers visible.
Restore from 17.1 to 16.7.2 via DFU - result: AirPrint printers visible.
Restore from 16.7.2 to 17.1 via DFU - result: No AirPrint printers visible.
Restore from 17.1 to 16.7.2 via DFU - result: AirPrint printers visible.
No other changes in the network environment was made.
How many times shall this be performed back and forth to get statistics if AirPrint works or not until this is seen as something that was introduced / changed (maybe not a real bug) in 17 since the problem isn't in 16.7.2 but in 17.x.?
As I wrote in the beginning I'm not on a quest to whine about this or that. I just wan't my users to be able to use AirPrint as before 17.x
The new iOS 17.3.1 was described as fixing glitches other than AirPrint. And so after DLing iOS 17.3.1 recently, I still have the No Airprinters Found message with my Samsung Xpress printer. Has anyone with a Samsung printer been able to use AirPrint after the advent of iOS 17? Apple support reps always say they're aware of the problem and are working on it. HP (which bought Samsung printers) has not developed any new firmware. I just don't know how many printers are still having this AirPrint problem? Or have you elected to buy a new Airprint printer and be done with waiting for Apple to fix your existing printer? Thanks.
i*OS 17.4 was just released and now it seems like both the Bonjour/Airprint printer detection problem and the fact that it was (almost?) impossible to print from images from "Photos" is solved.
Do you have a reference for that? I've checked the changelog for iOS 17.4 and there are no references to Airprint or fixing the Airprint bug.
It is quite normal for an iOS 17 update to make it look like Airprint has been fixed, but in fact the process of installing an update and rebooting causes Airprint to work correctly - but the problem soon reappears a day or two later. We've been there x6 times already. What has always been missing is Apple acknowledging there is a problem, and then telling us that they have fixed it.
Of course we’ve all tried all that. That’s all basic crap everyone knows, shouldn’t have to try and is NOT the problem. Resetting networks each time you want to print is ludicrous, and Apple needs to provide a true solution, because printing was never a problem in the past.
For months now I have been fighting to print anything from my iPad Air and iPhones which was working fine until IOS 17, and now finally discovered this thread here and can add my experience that I can only print from my old replaced router network that I use for guests only but to AirPrint from my new (approx. 1 year), router that no longer AirPrints with my IOS devices.
I have the same problem with an HP ENVY 4522 and my CANON MG 6320 printer.
I have to either switch wifi networks to enable printing or sent stuff to my Windows laptop as a workaround real nuisance but it works (fortunately don’t print much), and needless to say that Apple has been getting some choice words from me lately also my iPad is a recent one so are our phones.
Am thinking about gonna try a new printer and see what happens…….
Definitely think that Apple is the cause of this misery though!
BREAKTHROUGH TODAY….decided to try something else and changed the wifi security settings of my TP-LINK router to WPA2 from the WPA3 default settings of my router, (reason I went for a new router a year ago was cause the newer WPA3).
And now my old CANON MG6320 is priming again over AirPrint!!
edited.
Also is showing up in my router connection list and is still connected and able to print to after changing my router security settings back to the higher WPE3 security.
I should add that I was able to print the document using my iPad which I did not update
Same problem. Cannot AirPrint on iOS 17. Tried solution above but no success. Three devices still on iOS 16.6.1 can print with no problem.
I can no longer print to my Brother MFC-J835DW Inkjet Printer after upgrading my iPhone SE3 to Apple IOS 17. Brother Int’l says they have been receiving the same reports in the past 4 days regarding older model Brother Printers. Brother Int’l has no information on any software or firmware updates to resolve this issue. The short term fix is to have to go out and buy a new printer. Once again, Apple is costing it’s customers more time and expense on every single upgrade.

I have read and followed all steps per the instructions listed and still my IPad won’t print. FYI, it never had an issue until IOS 17 update was installed. I don’t print much, I have a work around as my iPhone and windows computer has no issues. I will just deal with it until apple has an update that corrects the issue.
I doubt that Apple will provide an update that corrects it, because if it was a system problem it would affect millions of users, and so far it seems to be 2 or 3, most of whom have resolved the problem using suggestions in this thread.
To review, have you done ALL of these steps, in the order listed:
This should restart the BonJour network that manages printer connectivity.
If this does NOT resolve the problem:
Open Settings
This will erase all Wi-Fi passwords, but will not result in any other data loss.
JD107 followed another suggestion , settings Wi-Fi, i , turn off “private Wi-Fi address”, and the printer works on my iPad now.
This worked! Thanks!
Thank you, this worked for me. I now have vpn set to only connect on demand and printer works fine. Thank you!
Yes me too. If I reset and restart everything from modem to printer I can get it to work, but it’s a one shot deal. The next time I ask it to print it just says waiting, forever.
I saw a post or two mention VPN, so I turned it off. That did the trick. I’m running a 9th Gen iPad.
I still consider this a 17.x.x bug, since I was able to print with VPN “ON” in 16.x.x.
These steps work for me. The problem is I have to do them every single time I want to print anything. It makes printing anything take a lot longer than it did before I updated my iPhone.
