Do the following, i this order:

  • Turn off the printer
  • Turn off your phone
  • Turn off your router for 15 seconds
  • Turn on your router
  • Turn on your phone and wait for it to connect to Wi-Fi
  • Turn on the printer

This should restart the BonJour network that manages printer connectivity.

Note that is probably just one of these that needs to be done, but figuring out which one will take longer than just doing them all.

Both my iPhone and iPad have iOS 17 and they both still print.

I can no longer print to my Brother MFC-J835DW Inkjet Printer after upgrading my iPhone SE3 to Apple IOS 17. Brother Int’l says they have been receiving the same reports in the past 4 days regarding older model Brother Printers. Brother Int’l has no information on any software or firmware updates to resolve this issue. The short term fix is to have to go out and buy a new printer. Once again, Apple is costing it’s customers more time and expense on every single upgrade.

I also have this problem. We updated both our iPhones, the Mac, and now unable to print anymore.

Our MacBook Pro wasn’t updated, this is the only apparatus that we can now print on, this also reluctant to update tha MacBook.

i did try the suggestion that I turn off the router, and all apparatus, and then turned them back on one for one. It worked, for one day, the next day everything was again no printing.

The steps don't work for everyone, certainly not for me. If you can't be helpful, don't blame everyone and everything else.

I've had that conversation with him already, either way, it is confirmed to be a bug, but in some cases updating firmware on a printer may help, but in the end, Apple appear to have fixed it in the 17.2 betas.

Ok I tried everything in all your posts and nothing worked. I worked with Apple support and they could not get my iPhone to work with my canon printer. I waited for the latest update from Apple and that did not work. I am on xfinity Wi-Fi so today I exchanged my router for a new one and after installing the new router I can now print from my iPhone and iPad. Can’t explain it but it worked. A big thank you for all your suggestions. Just knowing everyone was having the same problem kept me sane.

I have a Canon MF232w printer that is experiencing the exact same issue. I have tried the workarounds these folks have suggested in threads above; they don't work. I had a Netgear router that was turned off, along with each iPhone (7, 13 and 14 ProMax, respectively) and iPad4, then devices were turned back on. I had ZERO problems printing to this Canon prior to upgrading to iOS 17. Apple needs to fix this! I just installed (last weekend) a new eero router and I have no problem printing from my laptop PC to the printer on this new network and I didn't have to upgrade the drivers. But anything I want to print directly from the old or the new iPhones, I select Printer and the field value displays "No Printer Selected". OK, then I attempt to select a printer by tapping on that. which it then returns the error message "No Air Printers Found". It's maddening!

Same printer same issue. I’m back because it’s still not working after 17.1 update. My iPad and phone are useless to me now for any printing at all.

What happened when you followed the steps in the Apple Recommended article at the top of this page, that worked for everyone who tried it?

One more, that is missed in the Recommended post: Delete your VPN profile and app.

Helpful to know that it might be fixed in 17.2 which is expected before the end of the year.

Just spotted that 17.2 is available for my iPhone so am downloading and installing it now, and will report back findings. Of course, the process of installing an update and rebooting tended to give me a day or so of Airprinting before it stopped again, so I would expect to be able to print after the update has been installed.

As to whether this fixes the problem, I'll have to wait a day or two and see if I can continue to Airprint each day as I could before iOS 17.1.

Shut things off then on does temporarily solve the problem. Brother printer will print for the day but next day the inevitable message appears “Printer Busy”. Cant be busy, nothing in the print queue it’s empty. I tried everything and it just does the same thing. So to temporarily solve the frustration, I plugged my printer into an Alexa outlet, programed it to go off, wait 5 minutes and turn it back on.

I can now have the printer reset itself and move on with printing. There are two many different forums and printers having the same problem. I have come to the conclusion that IOS 17….17.2 needs to be fixed.

i would like a solution to the problem that is more permanent than the temporary ones, that for some, does fix the problem.

I'm not sure what defines what a user thinks about when the phrase "it't not working" is said regarding this issue.

I'm working in an organization with two print server environments. One with Cirrato that has Rico MFP:s and a newer one with Papercut that has Canon MFP:s

Both worked fine before iOS / iPadOS 17 was introduced.

After version 17 the following was what our users complained about when they said "it's not working".

17.0 and 17.1: No printers that was detected using Bonjour was visible in the printer list. The only one that was visible was those that was defined as printers in the users devices by our MDM:s

17.2: Printers that is found using Bonjour is now visible, so far so good.

Since our users is printing to a printer server and therefore can use any printer of choice by identifying the with RFID och username and password at the printer they have to put in their username and password in the iOS /iPadOS device.

On iOS 16.x and earlier the printers in the printer list had a small lock beside the name that indicated that the user had to use username and password to use it. That lock vanished from iOS 17.0. One other thing that vanished was the ability to "forget the printer" if the user wan't to do so.

While the printers / printer servers now was visible and possible to choose one new "it doesn't work" appeared.

This time it was blank or malformed outputs.

I have not found any way to test what causes problems or not but for when I try to print the following media with the following applications I get the following results:

www.google.se in safari : No problem

https://testimages.org/img/testimages_screenshot.jpg in safari : No problem

The same image saved from safari to pictures, opened by "Photos" and then printed: Blank image.

Photo taken with the device, opened in "Photos" and then printed: Blank page.

This is the same on both printer server environments and there was no issues like this on iOS / iPadOS 16.x and earlier.

I have mentioned this via "feedback assistant" so far with no feedback to me but I hope for my organisations and all other organisations and users that whatever causes this problem if corrected soon. We have No problems with our Macs, it's just iOS and iPadOS. I don't know it the problem is located on the client OS, the client application, the Bonjour part in the client or the server or if the servers get for them "malformed" data if the clients it handling the mDNS info in another way in 17 vs 16 and therefore can't print. I Do Not Know. The only thing that I wan't is that my users can print again.

I don't wan't to read another "restart the printer" etc. This does Not solve any issue, it just buries it for a short time so that it can appear again. There are many replies in this thread that already has noticed that.

We have thousands of iOS devices and hundreds of printers that right now can't print, or more precise, can print some dokuments / URL's and not other ditos.

Apple. Please say something about this issue. There are a lot of users that need to be able to print again.

i*OS 17.4 was just released and now it seems like both the Bonjour/Airprint printer detection problem and the fact that it was (almost?) impossible to print from images from "Photos" is solved.

Do you have a reference for that? I've checked the changelog for iOS 17.4 and there are no references to Airprint or fixing the Airprint bug.

It is quite normal for an iOS 17 update to make it look like Airprint has been fixed, but in fact the process of installing an update and rebooting causes Airprint to work correctly - but the problem soon reappears a day or two later. We've been there x6 times already. What has always been missing is Apple acknowledging there is a problem, and then telling us that they have fixed it.
