iOS 17 Purchased Text Tones Missing

Since the update to iOS 17, the text tones purchased in the Apple iTunes Store are missing. If you go to the “Settings / Message Tones” section, only the Apple standard tones are available. However, if you go to “Settings / Ringtone” the purchased message tones are also available. However, it is not possible to reassign the purchased message tones to a contact as a message tone. Dubiously, however, the existing contacts are linked to the message tones purchased from iOS 16, only when you create a new emergency contact is it not possible to assign them to the purchased message tones because they are not listed. And even if you open a file in Contacts, add a sound to a new message, buy it in the iTunes Store (download an already purchased sound), it is not added to the contact as a message sound, even if you click on Assign message sound to a contact in the selection . NO change, such a programming error shouldn't happen to Apple. After all, you pay 99p for each message tone, in my case it's 30 tones.

i'm purchased multiple ringtones and also was using classic ringtones for specific contacts they're all gone now there's absolutely no ringtone when people call me and there's no text tone the phone just vibrates is this going to be fixed and when will the update be available this is unacceptable for as much money as we pay for the expensive iPhones for us not to use items we purchased

If you upgrade your phone to iOS 17.1.1, current as of this writing, you will be able to use purchased (or home made) tones as text tones as long as they are less than 30 seconds long.

My ringtones have always been there, but my text tones are still missing on my 15 Pro 😢

Update to iOS 17.1. You should see all of your purchased tones again. You have to swipe down toward the bottom of the screen and they are listed as "Ringtones" even if you're selecting a custom text tone. But, that doesn't matter. You can still use them.

While IOS 17.1 fixed most of the problems, including being able to assign purchased tones to contacts - things are not totally fixed.

I am still finding that purchased Alert Tones still do not show up when using the Clock app. I used to be able to assign a Custom Alert Tone to an alarm or a timer alert. That still has not been fixed. Any of my prior alarms or timers show the previously selected Alert Tone. Anything new only shows Ringtone or Text Tones.

So for me - 75% fixed. 25% still not working correctly.

Why not tell Apple that. Telling users on a user to user only forum, which Apple doesn't actively participate in that you'll go with a Samsung, gets you nothing, to be honest.

Since you just responded to the original poster however, are you aware Apple fixed this with the iOS 17.1 update? Have you updated your iPhone to 17.1 (the current version is actually 17.1.1)?

I am having the same issue and nothing i do works. Like i can change ALL text tones, but not individual ones and once i change all of them i see it until i go to the contact to change its not in the list to pick.
i reached out to Apple and they wanted me to do everything i had already done with a screenshot and recording showing them. He said some have got it to work with Network Reset but i haven’t tried that yet because i am waiting on them to call me back. UGH!!

At the present time, you cannot add custom tones as text tones. Full stop. There is nothing you can do that will change that. Only Apple can fix it.

I purchased a new iPhone 15 pro max and my purchased ringtones and text tones have transferred over but only can use as a “ringtone” and not text tone. So, I then purchased a new text tone and am not even able to use it for either text or ringtone. Waste of money. I called apple support that informed me that the new IOS 17 update has taken that away which is pretty f’d up if you ask me. I’m not happy with that, so, don’t purchase anymore ringtones or text tones, you can’t even use them, don’t waste your money and time. This needs to be FIXED!! Apple Support…
