Is it possible to restore the iMessage shortcuts bar above the keyboard which included the camera icon so its easy to add photos to iMessage? The new menu is so longwinded to get something on the second screen like a gif from #images (not sure why its the only item with a #). Also, at least allow us to drag the menu down to cancel it instead of a press. If its not broken, don't fix it!
No, it's not possible to revert to the previous version. You can, however, let Apple know your thoughts on the matter here:
As the dropdown menu may not have been updated to include iOS 17, you should be sure to include that information in the text box.
Wish I would have found this post before upgrading . Apple there has to be away to turn off the plus sign and revert to the bar.. this is not positive upgrade when you create more steps to a do a process .. People use apple for ease of use .. I find It disappointing that Apple new back in Sept that this terrible and decided not to give an options in 17.1.1 upgrade.. to either turn on off..
When I go to settings>messages, there is no option for imsg apps. I'm on 17.1.1, maybe they took that away too! Very frustrated with these extra steps just to send a message. I did leave product feedback. Hopefully they hear from enough of us and change it back.

I thought I was going crazy. I figured I removed it accidentally somehow. I never thought they would update something that was simple and make it so much more difficult to use. Going to be worse now that it's cold out and I'm often pulling my gloves off because touch gloves are a joke. Please put it back!!! It was such a nice feature. Can't believe how much I miss it already.
Losing that quick drop down menu to access text add ins (# images, photos etc) makes it klunky and feels like a double instread of single click. They went backward on functionality, here.
Apple, please fix this!

It's Apple's software and they can change it whenever they want for whatever reasons they want. However, you might also want to consider that Apple has access to tremendous amounts of user data, not to mention everything that comes in through the feedback page. It just may be possible that this feature you loved was disliked by more people than liked it. It may just be possible that not everyone has the same needs and preferences that you do. Just a thought.

As has been noted previously in this thread, Apple doesn't read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. Use the feedback link already provided to let them know your thoughts.
I have let them know how much I like the new, less busy interface for Messages.
I also miss having the shortcut bar. It’s a hassle to use now.
Agreed, why would they force more clicks?? If anything it should be integrated even more. I hope they bring back the option of having the toolbar at least. Hate this update.

Yes, but you will have to download a 3rd party app from the App Store. I’ve seen the app bar above on 3rd party keyboards as well as different fonts.
I agree. The change they made to the shortcut in texting is absolutely terrible and frustrating.
