Blink security app - notification sound changed since IOS 17 update

I just updated my iPhone 13 to IOS 17. Since the update the Blink security app notification sound changed and now is very quiet. I went to Settings/Notifications/Blink and the only option is Sounds with an on/off button - no way to change sound or increase volume.

I notified Blink and their Customer Support said to contact Apple. I told them this is not my singular problem but is a Blink problem. No go, they keep pointing at Apple.

Looks like we have a circular firing squad...

Any help anyone could offer would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

My specific problem has been that since upgrading to IOS 17, ALL of my app notification sounds changed to a short, low volume "blip" sound, not just Blink. Today, after trying to change a few settings, all my notification sounds returned, and Blink now sounds like a more substantial "beh-roop" sound (kinda like a thick liquid drop). Not exactly sure what specifically fixed the problem, but here's what I did in case you wanted to try.

I double checked all the usual suspect Notifications and Sounds & Haptics settings to make sure they were set correctly and found nothing wrong. Then in Sounds & Haptics, I changed the ring tones for Text Tone and New Mail, and then set them back to default in order to test the ringtones and hopefully reset them. Then I went into Notifications and into the various individual apps whose notification sounds were not working correctly and changed their tones and then set them all back to default. I think the last app I changed was the Mail (Safari) app's sound under Notification, Customize Notifications, selected my mail provider's account name under Accounts, and noticed my Alerts setting was toggled off and I toggled that back on. Within a few minutes I received both an email and Blink notification that sounded normal. Again, I'm not sure what specifically fixed the problem, but in my case, it seems it may have been resetting the apps whose notifications were sounding distorted and turning on the Mail app's Alert on-off toggle that had been turned off during the IOS 17 install.

Your mileage may vary.... Good luck.

It's pretty clear that Apple will not provide the ability to change the default notification sound for 3rd party apps that do not provide that customization feature in the app settings. Apparently it's been years that iphone users have been complaining about the old Tri-tone default notification sound and not being able to change it; since IOS 17, some seem glad of the change and others not. Blink is apparently not willing to change their Blink app settings to include the ability to choose a different notification sound (only the ability to turn the Apple default notification sound on or off). Perhaps a concerted campaign to request that change in the Blink app? "Irresistable force meets immovable object..." yada yada yada.

Does anyone have the Blink hooked up to an Alexa?

Copied below from my latest correspondence with Blink:

Thanks for your response, and we do apologize if you're having this kind of issue.

We really appreciate the time that you have invested here in our department. This is Ann, and I will handle this ticket from now on since my colleague is on a rest day.

We have not received any updates yet, and unfortunately, as of now, we don't have any workarounds yet for this. I suggest using a different phone or using an extended device such as Alexa so that you will be notified of the activity of your system. Let me know if you need more assistance aside from this.

Hello ~ You may think it is ridiculous but in fact I have proven that it is partially an iOS 17 issue. Let me explain… first of all Blink has never had a great notification but the poor choice was quieted by iOS 17 as were many other notifications. I set up my old SE 1st Generation running iOS 15 and the notifications are as before…so that again is my two cents worth. The fact that this App (Blink) happens to be one of security makes it a whole different ball game. Hopefully, this will be addressed. Another user in this thread has indicated that this has also affected his notifications on ADT. I also have another App that controls an implant of mine…I can barely hear those notifications as well…which are pretty important for crucial health alerts. I can not download this App to my SE so there is no workaround….

Hello~ It is an iOS 17 issue. I have a first generation SE iPhone running iOS 15.8 and the notification is loud enough. On my iPhone 12 mini running iOS 17.1.1 the tone is barely audible. You have never been able to select another tone for Blink. I have posted this several times but I guess no one bothers to read the other posts in this thread.

Hello once more~ I understand but this happened as a result of iOS 17. I have explained several times. I have Blink cameras as well. I however do not pay a Blink subscription as I choose to use a great usb and it works just fine. The issue here for me is the tone on iOS 17 is too low to be heard at critical times…such as at night. I set up my old SE 1st gen running iOS 15.8 and the tone is much louder (like before) Also this is not just the Blink app being affected.

Actually I had to reboot both my iphone & my apple watch several times after updating both. This was not the only bug. And my watch had quit with the sounds & haptics on my blink notifications even before I made any changes. This was one reason I ipdated my iphone then my watch.

I'm still having to reboot my iphone occasionally, it just randomly quits the blink notifications even when I've done nothing. I really think Blink is overdue for an update. Especially given our phones, watches & iPads have new ios versions!

I've even had to reboot my Sync Module. It's been randomly losing cameras for no reason. I'm grandfathered in on the old inclusive cloud service. I would've already contacted them if I paid a subscription for the service & had newer devices. I do have a doorball & added 4 newer version cameras this past year. Was thrilled they added right in easily. I've loved Blink & highly recommended them to several friends. Just gotten buggy in the last couple months, even before this new ios 17.

It is definitely an Apple problem . I be spoken with both Apple and Blink. It is the notification that Apple set to many of our different apps. This same sound we get from Blink camera alert is the same sound I get from email. There is no way to choose a different sound. I read where someone said she changed her sound in settings and hapatics but there is No way she could have. I just got off with Blink asking them could they have the Blink app allow us to choose our own sound. And of course I was referred back to Apple. This is nothing but corporate nonsense!!!

This seems to have worked for me. Rebound was my default and I switched back to my previous tone of Tri-Tone. I went into Settings; Sounds. Haptics, scrolled down to Default Alerts and changed the defualt tone. My apologies for previous post that appeared to linked to an incorrect post. I can't deleted my previous post. :(. If someone could tell me how to delete my previous post I would greatly appreciate your help.
