Blink security app - notification sound changed since IOS 17 update

I just updated my iPhone 13 to IOS 17. Since the update the Blink security app notification sound changed and now is very quiet. I went to Settings/Notifications/Blink and the only option is Sounds with an on/off button - no way to change sound or increase volume.

I notified Blink and their Customer Support said to contact Apple. I told them this is not my singular problem but is a Blink problem. No go, they keep pointing at Apple.

Looks like we have a circular firing squad...

Any help anyone could offer would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

My specific problem has been that since upgrading to IOS 17, ALL of my app notification sounds changed to a short, low volume "blip" sound, not just Blink. Today, after trying to change a few settings, all my notification sounds returned, and Blink now sounds like a more substantial "beh-roop" sound (kinda like a thick liquid drop). Not exactly sure what specifically fixed the problem, but here's what I did in case you wanted to try.

I double checked all the usual suspect Notifications and Sounds & Haptics settings to make sure they were set correctly and found nothing wrong. Then in Sounds & Haptics, I changed the ring tones for Text Tone and New Mail, and then set them back to default in order to test the ringtones and hopefully reset them. Then I went into Notifications and into the various individual apps whose notification sounds were not working correctly and changed their tones and then set them all back to default. I think the last app I changed was the Mail (Safari) app's sound under Notification, Customize Notifications, selected my mail provider's account name under Accounts, and noticed my Alerts setting was toggled off and I toggled that back on. Within a few minutes I received both an email and Blink notification that sounded normal. Again, I'm not sure what specifically fixed the problem, but in my case, it seems it may have been resetting the apps whose notifications were sounding distorted and turning on the Mail app's Alert on-off toggle that had been turned off during the IOS 17 install.

Your mileage may vary.... Good luck.

I’ve contacted both blink and Apple many times for over a week. Both state the problem is on the other one. I feel like a ping pong left in the middle with no resolution. I finally tried one more time to Apple on Friday night on 10-6-23 and reached an Apple support advisor . She went through all my settings both Apple and blink and noticed there is no way to turn sound on or off in my blink settings. She made a ticked to report this to the higher ups about the problem and made the issue known that there is this site with multiple complaints about the the same things. Let’s hope these issues are resolved soon. I stressed the important of not being able to hear these security alerts could be a matter of life or death if someone tried to break in and not give us time to defend ourselves. Also told her that we have family members we use the cameras to aid us with sick family members. Hang in there guys, hopefully we get this all worked out with Apple and Blink.

Yeah Blink has never had an option to change the alert sound..even though they said they were working on it which was a couple years ago…

With that said..I too have had a problem since the iOS 17 upgrade..so it appears to me that on the surface that Apple is to blame for this very meek alert tone… I rely on my 13 Interior and Exterior Blink Cameras for Security..so this muffled sound of a water drop renders the cameras useless… Even the original alert tone wasn’t really loud enough..so Blink should be responsible for contacting Apple to resolve this issue on behalf of it’s customers… I believe also that Apple says the problem is with Blink because when there is an Apple Software Update..then it’s up to each one of the many thousands of Apps to update their app to work properly with the new iOS software… So ultimately the problem is Blink for having a sub-par App… So around & around it goes…

All third party apps can only use the default notification sound that Apple provides. This is not an issue with Blink it is an issue created by Apple with the release of IOS 17.

Some Apple Genius decided to change the default notification to this barely audible sound.

The possible good news is that the new update to IOS 17.1.2 may include a fix to the default notification sound.

Let’s hope this is the case.

This worked for me as well. Settings -> Mail -> Customize Notifications. Touch each account name. Make sure Alerts it toggled on. Then touch Sounds and make sure a sound is selected. Close settings. Send yourself an email, and you should hear the alert sound. Walk around your yard to trigger a Blink camera. Now you should hear the old standard Blink sound again.

Hello~ I wish I were a magician and could fix the issue to everyone’s satisfaction but I like you am only a fellow forum user. I have also been told that Arlo volume is similarly affected. It’s not an issue of tone selection but the fact that the volume of notifications has been altered by iOS 17. I can’t hear many of my notifications…like Apple News or my medical implants notifications. This is not just limited to Blink.

Correct - when I was googling this I saw an Arlo discussion board where Arlo programmers said they were working to add tri tone as an option on their app- now will that happen ?? Who knows ..they were working to offer other options since the iOS default is now the rebound sound which is far too quiet ..idk why we can’t just add our own like you can on android .. so frustrating

I now believe it “is” Apple’s fault, the reason Blink sound changed for the worst. Anything I had a sound notification for now has that same weak sound ever since the update.

As noted above, Blink has the option of adding whatever sound they want to their app. They have chosen not to do so. Apple can't make them do that. I have a number of apps that use their own sounds, including Ring.

This to be a Blink issue because I am still running on ios16, haven’t updated and have a friend who runs Blink on their android, and both of our notification sounds have changed and are unable to be changed. This needs fixed for sure. The notification sound is way too low for anyone to hear an alert of what could be a potential burglary, domestic violence, etc….
