Blink security app - notification sound changed since IOS 17 update

I just updated my iPhone 13 to IOS 17. Since the update the Blink security app notification sound changed and now is very quiet. I went to Settings/Notifications/Blink and the only option is Sounds with an on/off button - no way to change sound or increase volume.

I notified Blink and their Customer Support said to contact Apple. I told them this is not my singular problem but is a Blink problem. No go, they keep pointing at Apple.

Looks like we have a circular firing squad...

Any help anyone could offer would be appreciated.

My specific problem has been that since upgrading to IOS 17, ALL of my app notification sounds changed to a short, low volume "blip" sound, not just Blink. Today, after trying to change a few settings, all my notification sounds returned, and Blink now sounds like a more substantial "beh-roop" sound (kinda like a thick liquid drop). Not exactly sure what specifically fixed the problem, but here's what I did in case you wanted to try.

I double checked all the usual suspect Notifications and Sounds & Haptics settings to make sure they were set correctly and found nothing wrong. Then in Sounds & Haptics, I changed the ring tones for Text Tone and New Mail, and then set them back to default in order to test the ringtones and hopefully reset them. Then I went into Notifications and into the various individual apps whose notification sounds were not working correctly and changed their tones and then set them all back to default. I think the last app I changed was the Mail (Safari) app's sound under Notification, Customize Notifications, selected my mail provider's account name under Accounts, and noticed my Alerts setting was toggled off and I toggled that back on. Within a few minutes I received both an email and Blink notification that sounded normal. Again, I'm not sure what specifically fixed the problem, but in my case, it seems it may have been resetting the apps whose notifications were sounding distorted and turning on the Mail app's Alert on-off toggle that had been turned off during the IOS 17 install.

You can't change it anymore. Blink forced their own sound on their customers rather than using the apple sounds. I cancelled my Blink this morning and trashed 6 cams.

I've been in touch with Blink through e-mail, and they act like they don't even know what I'm talking about. There's no way they haven't had a million complaints about this. I told them to wake up their programmers and put some sounds in the app instead of depending on Apple to supply the sounds. Still waiting on an answer.

I’ve been going back and forth with Blink for days… they say apple needs to fix this, I say their programmers need to fix it! Or they need to buy me camera system back because it’s been rendered useless for the purpose it was intended.

I have an iPhone 12. Yes, the recent update affected the blink camera clip notification. It’s so slight I can barely hear it. This is a safety issue, Apple. It’s on you! Not Blink!

Based on Safety, you should volunteer to do the right thing.

Same problem with iphone 15 and iOs 17.0.2. My blink cameras are now totally useless, I don’t hear notifications unless the iphone is on my hand. I have exposed this problem in spanish amazon web at the blink cameras review. May be this way makes blink app developers to solve this issue.

Hi there Glenvis,

Many apps have recently changed their notifications to custom. If the app in question here (blink) has done so, they may have changed their notification sound to something softer. If the sound is not an IOS text tone, but something else, this is most likely blink’s problem.

Think we should all post publicly on sites so people don't buy the system for use with iPhones. We have had both Blink and iPhone for years and this is a recent issue. We have been happy with both but with Prime days coming up people should be warned about the issue. They would not know as a new purchaser of the Blink System that there is an issue using it with Apple. It does work but the alert is way too quiet.

Dear Apple,

Can we the customer in a future release set a sound as a default to be used by apps which do not specify the notification sound. We for sure would not use the one you selected (as a default) on your latest release and which can not even wake up an insomnia person.

Back and forth with blink since iOS 17 update. Cannot hear new alert tone at all. Followed all suggestions from blink, nothing worked after multiple emails.

They said it’s an Apple issue not a blink issue and told me figure it out with Apple.

Still cannot hear the updated tone making my camera system pretty much useless any time not staring at phone!

Me too, I had no problem until I updated to Apples latest version 17.0.3. Now all my camera systems, ring blink and Kasa have this faint sound. Pointless having the cameras anymore. I think Apple caused the problems so they need to find a solution. Unfortunately I don’t ever remembering have a choice on sound choices but at least I could hear an alert. Wish I could go back to my old Apple update.

Hello again ~ Correct 🙂🙂 Apple doesn’t really see these posts so supplying them with feedback in the correct way is always best. It hopefully will be addressed so and I feel the sooner it is addressed by Apple the better.

One way we can all push Apple to expedite a fix is by using social media in order to rise public awareness about this problem.

I’m sure that there most be thousands of Blink users that have an iPhone running IOS 17 which are experiencing the same problem.

I agree that Blink needs to have their own sound program like ring but this 17.0.3 apple update has affected so much more than just blink cameras. I also have Kasa cameras and a Samsung camera that are having the same faint sound issue, and my whole phone experience has changed drastically. Apple needs to address their mistake and fix it! I’m seriously considering canceling my all apple account and switching to android. I hope Apple is Listening to all of this.

I have contacted Apple and they put a complaint in at apple.com/feedback and told me to do it as well. I have notified Blink and also I left a review on Amazon not to purchase cameras until Blink and Apple worked this out. Please send a complaint in. I would love for this matter to be resolved.
