Had the same issue. Got it to work by having Apple Music open on both phones before CarPlay connected. Had passenger try and join SharePlay then on my phone I opened the now playing and there was a 1 beside the SharePlay icon, tapped the SharePlay icon hit the green check mark and it worked.
Good luck!
Unfortunately, regardless of what restrictions you choose on parental controls, there are a bunch of things child accounts aren’t allowed to do. For example, you can’t add cards to Apple Wallet (annoying if you want to add a pre-paid card for public transport)
I’m not entirely convinced it’s because of child accounts, since a bit ago I was in the car with my friends, who all have cups accounts. My dad turned on SharePlay and everyone else was able to activate it but me.
My daughter is 12 and doesn’t work for her and my son is 13 and works perfectly for him. There is some issue with the age I guess. I really do wish Apple will fix this, since the whole point of this feature is to give people who are in the car with you, the ability to play their music. Usually these people are my family members
same issue here just like yours to my family's shareplay situation.
I host the carplay and let my family join to enable shareplay,
for my wife, of course she is an adult, and has no issue with joinning shareplay
but for my kid, at the age of 12 just like your kid, can't join the shareplay.
when my kid tries to scan the QR code, it seems reading the code alright but soon after there goes pop up message like "feature unavailable on this account"
I don't know why apply restricted music thing to kids if it is related with parental control thing
iOS 17.3 introduced the collaborative playlist, I was hoping this could be a potential substitute for CarPlay SharePlay not working. I tried this new feature with my kids under age 13 and it gives an error message that the link has expired...fairly certain this feature is also blocked on kids under 13 accounts. What a shame.
How to collaborate on a playlist in Apple Music on your iPhone, iPad, or Android - Apple Support
We don’t have car play, but it seems like the car play restriction impacts SharePlay over Bluetooth? One of the many ways we are discovering Apple nudges patent to lie about kids ages. Create features that benefit families, but are unavailable to child accounts.
An adult Apple ID with strong screen time settings seems to give parents the most control, yes?
Still no luck, my daughter has got the SharePlay icon on her Apple Music, do you think this is because I have shared family subscription . Just get his message pop up
I wonder if the inability to connect is due to the parental controls. My son is 12yo.
What are ages? I feel like it’s restriction thing also.
Having the same issue - but only for my 10 Year old. It works perfectly for my 15 year old though, which makes me think it’s either age limited or because the 10 year old has more restrictions.
Apple Pay unlocks at 13 so it may be the same for Share play
On further testing, it doesn't work for either one of my kids. For one kid, I get the same error message as above. I did notice that in settings under FaceTime -> SharePlay, they have extra options for SHAREPLAY AUTOMATICALLY. They don't seem to make a difference. For the second kid, when scanning the QR code, it bring up Apple Music in Safari. They can control the music for a minute, but then it disconnects and doesn't work anymore. Same as AndreasMar.
Both kids set at ages of 12. Wonder if it's due to parental controls too. It works fine on my wife's phone.
Yeah, I won’t believe that until Apple officially communicates that child accounts are not allowed to add songs in the car even though their parent approved a direct request from their device to do so. It seems too stupid, even for Apple.
I’m sorry, I didn’t think you were being untruthful, what I’m saying is it wouldn’t be the first time that a single Apple first line support person has been wrong about something. I want this communicated officially, like on the website, before I believe it.
If Apple honestly thinks that 17 year olds shouldn’t be allowed to add songs in the car, they’re delusional. What could possibly be the harm? At least let me as a parent decide if my 17 year old can handle the responsibility of essentially juggling the radio tuner dial. Geez…
Yeah, it makes absolutely no sense. If anything it would be a bigger problem if my kids are listening to questionable music on their own, on their AirPods or whatever and they’re absolutely free to do that as far as Apple is concerned so… no, this doesn’t make any sense and therefore I refuse to believe it.
