Face ID stopped working on my iPhone after iOS 17 update

Mine was working even after update I’m sure it’s the TrueDepth , keeps asking me to lower for then raise phone over and over ,I have Apple care and will be sending it in , they better not change anything because this is a problem with a $1400 phone not caused by the owner .

I hope your phone gets fixed under AppleCare -- please post back so user community can build a picture of what is happening.

Out of interest -- what is the model and year of issueof your phone? Mine was an iPhone 13 mini, supplied around Nov 2022.

here I am end of Feb 2024 and I’ve just submitted feedback about this issue! Insane to only get error messages, I thought I had done something wrong but it’s reassuring/sad to see this is such a widespread issue comparable to radio silence. 🙄

This also has been happening to me. I called Apple and their support was no help as for me to reset or erase to restart or redo my Face ID and passcode it needs my Face Is to be recognized. Their last suggestion was to have me take my phone to Best Buy.

I then read these threads and messages and realized I’m not the only one experiencing these issues.

Hopefully their future updates will have bug fixes for this IPhone Face ID recognition.

I have iPhone 12 Pro Max. After installing iOS 17.4.1 my face ID stopped working. Did all the possible fixes. Even I went to an apple store to fix it. They asked me to pay almost 189 USD to repair the true depth camera. But I didn't agree for that as this happened right after installing the update. With the so many arguments, finally the sent my issue to one of the engineers and now waiting for their update. I don't understand what apple is trying to do. Really frustrating.

If anyone from apple is seeing this, please respond to the concerns which your valuable customers are having due to your irresponsibility.

PS: Installed iOS 17.4.1 revision, but still the same.

Thanks apple, I am stuck because of some security I have to wait for an hour to reset face recognition. Some people have to work. Furthermore turing on and off the iphone every day is not practical. Please bring an update or bring back the good old thumbs up recognition.

Yes, this is a ROYAL PITA! And definitely happened after one of the 17. updates!!! :(

I am using a 15 Pro Max

I reassigned my facial ID 2x, shutdown in Airplane mode & rebooted, Shutdown from the General Tab & then Shutdown, nothing has worked!

I have never got face iD to work, your doing better then me.I don’t think I don’t think many people use that app anyway i probably just for people with hacker problems nothing you really need if it was it wouldn’t be so hard to get otherwise why would so many people have such a hard time with it?

I'm also having the same issue on my iphone 13 mini. Tried the procedures, nothing helped. Did it work for you?

I updated to ios 17.0.1 still not working :((

I did a full restore. Not working !!

I had issues with Face ID and got that issue resolved . Tried to attach a photo to email and it failed.

Resolved how?
