Face ID stopped working on my iPhone after iOS 17 update

Updated my iPhone 11 to.ios 17.01 last night. Since then, my face id won't work. I get error messages or it says face id not available. I thought I could reset face ID but it's not letting me do that either

. Rebooting the phone didn't help. Everything was working fine until the ios 17 update finished installing.

It is quite a rare issue, it may occurs somtime when the new software crashed on your device. These steps may resolve your issue:

A. Hard Reset

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

B. Reset Face ID by turn off your device passcode and set up Face ID passcode

Settings> Face ID & Passcode> Turn Passcode Off> Set Up Face ID Passcode

C. Connect to Mac and Restore iPhone

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

Make sure to back up your phone before restoring it, I hope this instruction will resolve your issue.

This also has been happening to me. I called Apple and their support was no help as for me to reset or erase to restart or redo my Face ID and passcode it needs my Face Is to be recognized. Their last suggestion was to have me take my phone to Best Buy.

I then read these threads and messages and realized I’m not the only one experiencing these issues.

Hopefully their future updates will have bug fixes for this IPhone Face ID recognition.

I have iPhone 12 Pro Max. After installing iOS 17.4.1 my face ID stopped working. Did all the possible fixes. Even I went to an apple store to fix it. They asked me to pay almost 189 USD to repair the true depth camera. But I didn't agree for that as this happened right after installing the update. With the so many arguments, finally the sent my issue to one of the engineers and now waiting for their update. I don't understand what apple is trying to do. Really frustrating.


If anyone from apple is seeing this, please respond to the concerns which your valuable customers are having due to your irresponsibility.


PS: Installed iOS 17.4.1 revision, but still the same.
