Facetime app on my Apple TV 4K won't work.

FaceTime on my Apple TV doesn't show my name my name as a choice. It just says Other. When I click on that it has me scan the QR code on the screen. When I tap Connect to Apple TV, nothing happens. It says connecting then never does. I've logged out and back in a few times but nothing works. I've performed a factory reset twice to no avail. I force quit the app as well as rebooted the ATV. The phone I'm using with the continuity camera is a 13 Pro Max with iOS 17. What else can I try?

I had the same issue. But it worked for me after I removed my Apple ID user (Setting-> Users and Accounts -> Default User -> Remove User from Apple TV) and added myself again using “Sign in with iPhone or iPad”

Not saying this is true for all but just wanted to mention that Apple Watch owners should also be on the lookout for the confirmation message (the one that gets sent after scanning the QR code) on their watches. The Apple TV may decide to send it to your watch if you are standing in front of it and it’s closer which, in many of these cases is a pretty plausible scenario.

If you’re not looking for the confirmation on your watch (thinking it’s coming to your phone), it will certainly look like you scanned the code and nothing happened and without the authentication it requires, Apple TV will not add you as a user.

Long story short, I ended up having to restore my iPad using iTunes and then setting it up as new. To my surprise FaceTime in the Apple TV then worked using the iPad as camera. The iPhone still didn’t work.

So I tried restoring the iPhone too and, lo and behold, it started working as well.

Apple hopefully fixes this in the near future but if anyone’s desperate getting it to work now, try restoring your device and setting it up as new.

Okay, just to be clear, this is what I did:

1) Plugged iPhone into computer running iTunes

2) Clicked “Restore” iPhone in iTunes. (The computer downloads the latest iOS software, then completely wipes the iPhone and installs the new iOS software from scratch.)

3) Unplugged iPhone from computer.

4) Set up iPhone as new. When asked I did NOT use another device to login to iCloud and set everything up and I did NOT restore from an iCloud backup. I chose to MANUALLY set the iPhone up as a new device.

If you did everything the same I’m not sure why the bug wasn’t fixed for you. Maybe I just got lucky.
