iPhone does not ring with incoming calls after updating to iOS 17

I am continuing to have issues with my phone not ringing when a call comes in. Ever had this issue until upgrading to IOS 17. I think it has ruined my phone.

FIRST: Are there missed calls in Phone/Recents on the phone? If they are not the problem is in the network, because the calls aren’t getting to your phone. Contact your carrier:

  • check with your carrier that they don’t have a local outage, and that you didn’t have any settings that would have immediately invoked voicemail, such as call forwarding.
  • check up on them at Down Detector - Crowdsourced outage checker

If they are in Recents here’s what to check:

  • Check the MUTE switch on the left side of the phone, above the volume buttons. It should be towards the screen
  • Check the volume setting. With the Home screen displayed, press the VOLUME UP button on the left side of the phone. It’s above the VOLUME DOWN button.
  • Go to Settings/Phone. There’s a switch for Silence Unknown Callers. If it is on any calls from numbers not in your contacts will go directly to voicemail.
    • If you keep it on, in Settings/Phone make sure Dial Assist is enabled; it is needed to accurately match an incoming call to a contact.
    • Remember that banks, doctors and other professionals may not call you from the same number that you have in your contacts for them.
  • Also in Settings/Phone: Make sure Call Forwarding is off.
  • Make sure Do Not Disturb is off:
    • Open the Control Center and turn off the button next to the word Focus.
  • Go to Settings/Sounds & Haptics. Make sure there is a sound assigned to Ringtone.
  • Go to Settings/Accessibility/Touch/Call Audio Routing and make sure Auto-Answer Calls is off.
  • Go to Settings/Screen Time/Communications Limits. Tap each of the 2 entries and make sure both are “Everyone"
  • Restart your phone-->Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
  • If all else fails, talk your carrier into replacing your SIM card (thanks to ASC user DShelbyD)

Since this 15 was released and then the 17ios there’s so many security and malware and functions I have been through I wish I would be able to tell them without being removed.

Check all of your devices. Make sure they are all factory reset. It’s not just the phone calls not incoming. Check accessibility and make sure they aren’t on Auto routing and a random Bluetooth isn’t picking up your calls.

check switch control and anything that could be handoff related.

Hello

Having had to erase all my contents and data and start from scratch without resolving the problem, I just gave up. I have however seen in another thread someone mentioned bluetooth.

Seems that this may work. 1) I sometimes don't have sound coming from a youtube video (that does have sound), it seems that Bluetooth hangs onto a prior connection i.e when sitting in my car that has not been turned on, I swipe to the control centre and it shows that the car's bluetooth has the sound. 2) Same when using iphone for call, Bluetooth hangs onto the fact that I had used my earbuds. Even if the earbuds are no longer in use. 3) have also tested the keyboard clicking issue and this partially explains the problem.

Conclusion-the problem is a software problem from Apple on Bluetooth

I used Chujie17 response to examine my phone. The business block was on. I have never used that and I did not use it now. It would have been moved to on by an update because I have never gone that deep into my phone choices. Thanks CHUJIE17

pretty interesting that in that huge(maybe snide) list that Lawerence gave of possible fixes he DID NOT list the actual fix.

was the business block not really a fix option or was the list just slight of hand?

Thank you, I have done most everything you said. This issue started immediately after update to IOS17. My wife is having the same issue with her phone. I am thinking it is a software glitch since nothing was changed on the phone. Hopefully Apple will come up with a fox for this issue because so read in an internet search that others are complaining about the same issue.

I am still having the issue. Prior to IOS 17 if you were looking the phone at tue time a call came in the call the ringer volume turned down. I have realized that in IOS 17 if the phone can see your face the volume turns off. There have been time such as yesterday when my phone was in a holster case and it did not ring at all. I missed an important call because of it. Maybe Apple needs to make sure their phones and operating system works seamlessly before they worry about being carbon neutral. I have read where people are complaining about this. I am not going to have to worry about an overheating phone because I am going to change phone manufacturers because I am a government employee and missing one important call is unacceptable

Maybe your watch didn't ring but mine did, it also would give notifications of incoming iMessage and my phone would be silent unless I already had the screen on.

Both worked completely fine until last week or two weeks ago until a system update bricked my phone and I had to use my laptop to wipe it and install the software again.

And do you honestly think I wouldn't have tried every basic idea you listed already.

Just because Apple gave you a script to read from doesn't mean you know what is going on.
