iPhone 15 Pro Max Wi-Fi Issues

I Hope apple or others can help me out - I’m having issues with WiFi on the IPhone 15 Pro Max

myself and others are having issues with using WiFi and 160hz - many have raised issues on Reddit posts - some cannot connect to there WiFi at all and others can connect like myself but have random issues with no internet from time to time

Mines working on 5GHz 160hz, but sometimes I’ll just have no internet connection (it’s still connected to the WiFi) - I have to disconnect from the WiFi and connect again for it to work.

I’m using ASUS RT-AX82U - 5GHz allowed Upto 160hz - I’m running 1gig internet so last thing I want to do is try running at 80hz as I’ll loose speed

When it does work it works great 😊

PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP APPLE

I've got a fix!!! This was frustrating me to no end. Went to Apple store and talked with one of the experienced techs. He said the issue is the iPhone when you import from an old iPhone imports non-ideal network settings, not just your old iPhone passwords. Fix is below.

Network -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone -> Reset Network Settings

Wifi has been working like a charm since I did this. Read about this for hours and never saw this suggested anywhere else so figured I'd contribute.

I’d like to add something, I’m having the same issue with my Xfinity WiFi, something I’ve observed is that when I look at connected devices through the Xfinity app, the iPhone 15 Pro only shows up as “Apple Device” and with a generic picture and it can’t extract anymore information from it such as iOS version etc. whereas my iPhone 14 Pro shows up with the phone icon and proper name and it can extract all the information such as version/connection type, also when I do the troubleshoot test on the app, it says that it is only able to do a “basic connection”.

Having the same issue as many others. Posting here to see if they are similar...New 15 pro max- just received yesterday (10/3/2023). Coming from 14 pro max. ALL devices in the house work great (ATT 2gb Fiber, running through Netgear WAX620 access points). Previous Iphone 14 PM working great and fast over wifi.

New 15PM will connect to network (even get the "New device scanned and no vulnerabilities detected" message from router saying that new device is safe) but the WIFI symbol never appears in upper right corner to show it is connected or has internet. Data works through 5G still. 15PM will work fine connected to the wife's 14PM hotspot. WIFI symbol shows and everything.

I have NO VPN software running, I have tried all bands of 2.4/5ghz and isolating them. Created new SSID. Nothing. It will connect to them just never show that WIFI is actually connected outside of saying it is connected to a certain SSID.

Very frustrating and I am fixing to reactivate my 14PM and return this one.

I’m facing the same problem, just updated to iOS 17.0.3 on iPhone 15 Pro and the issue still seems to persist.

I’m using Asus RT-AX86U router with 5GHz enabled up to 160MHz channel bandwidth. However turning off the 160MHz option didn’t seem to fix the issue earlier and even if it did I cannot change router settings in every place I go.

As long as I’m connected to the WiFi ito works great but when I disconnect and reconnect it manually or when I go out of range and then reconnect automatically I loose connection to the internet while connected to the WiFi.

My quickest fix for that right now is to Turn off the WiFi > turn off the cellular data > turn on the WiFi > turn on the cellular data, then as long as I’m connected it works perfectly.

I read the RC notes and installed the new update - no change and the notes didn't mention the specific issue so likely next update if they do decide it's a software issue. I think this update was minor bug fixes but the major target was the overheating issue which I understand.

Let's make sure to keep this thread going with as much useful info as possible.

eero 6+

iphone 15 pro

Greenlight Fiber 500/500 mbps

Right next to the router I can get nearly 500/500mbps (which is faster than any other wifi device I have), walk ~20 feet across the room and into the bathroom and it drops to <1mbps, whilst an iphone14 pro (or any other device I've tested) continues to get ~300mbps in the same location. Same happens with my wife's iphone 15 pro. I can't configure any of the eero settings to try the turning off 160Mhz :(

Hi all,

If this helps anyone;

I bought the new Apple iPhone 15 Pro and couldn't connect to our Centurylink 5Ghz wifi. It connect to 2Ghz but not 5Ghz.

I spent 2 hours a day for 3 days rebooting the modem, rebooting the phone, changing every setting on the router, resetting the router, resetting the phone and finally gave up.

I returned the phone to Verizon.

After getting a second iPhone 15 Pro in the mail today we turned it on, and YET AGAIN, no wifi even though over 30 devies in our house are conneted to the wifi network.

I found out via this thread that the cause IS NOT the iPhone, it's Centurylink's outdated routers that they use in apartment buildings:

Forcing Centurylink to replace their modem/router solved the issue for us.

The best way to manage devices and bandwidth in wifi networks in my humble opinion is to create a dedicated SSID for each frequency and, or bandwidth combination.

I have a dual band Wifi 6 router that supports 2.4 & 5GHZ channels. The 2.4gHZ has its own SSID and I created two additional SSID’s on the 5GHZ channel with one being 80MHZ and the second at 160MHZ.

This allows for lower speed devices to connect more efficiently. Medium and high speed devices each have their own SSID’s. Distance can cause more network errors so to reduce retries on the 5GHZ channel a user/device can select the 2.4GHZ SSID. Devices close to the router should select either 5GHZ SSID’s.

My High speed wide 160MHZ SSID is mainly to connect my Workstation PC to achieve 1GBPS over wifi up and down. The 160MHZ bandwidth must be setup on a DFS overlapped 5GHZ sub channel. Anyone using these Wide bandwidth channels to achieve 160MHZ can/may experience automatic channel switching back to a 80MHZ channel.

In your case DFS may have kicked in but the router may not have automatically switch you SSID to a lower bandwidth channel. This will cause the SSID to useless until the DFS situation is gone and the router is rebooted. DFS rules don’t require the device to switch back to the DFS channel after the DFS told your router to vacate the channel.

My ASUS router does the downshift to a 80MHz channel but doesn’t go back to 160MHZ. Only way to correct this is to reboot the router.

I setup my router to reboot every day at 4am.

The new wifi 6E with support for 6GHZ I believe solves this issue for 160MHZ channel bandwidth.

There’s definitely something wrong with connections to 5GHz networks. Both of our phones are having an issue where WIFI shows full bars but there is no connection. If I switch over to my 2.4GHz network everything is fine in the same spot (albeit at lower speeds). Neither one of our previous devices had this issue with iOS 17 so I assume it’s the iPhone 15 Pro hardware.

This seems to be a larger problem as there’s a bunch of responses here with many different networks and brands.

I am glad you were able to get their attention. I started calling Apple support on the 23rd and spent an hour that day, drove two hours to the nearest Apple Store so they could run further diagnostics, spoke with 2nd level support multiple times and was eventually told they weren’t doing anything unless i could replicate the issue with another router. The did indicate it was a software issue but they were not elevating it to the engineers. Sounds like we may finally get a resolution…at some point.

Agree same issue. Iphone 15 pro max is the only device in my house that has trouble connecting to wifi. Luckily cellular data is fine and I have unlimited plan but still annoying not to be able to be on home wifi.

Connection is spotty, & frequently fails. When it works it works great but incredibly inconsistent. Restarting the router usually works for a little bit but then it goes back to being spotty after a few minutes. Have an ASUS RT AX88U modem & Centurylink Fiber. But really don't think those are at fault since literally every other wifi device in the house works besides my brand new iPhone 15 Pro Max! Apple fix this ASAP PLEASE!!!

I don't know why anyone would setup 160MHZ on a 5 GHZ band. The setting should be on 80MHZ, 160MHZ is asking for trouble. I have the Dream Machine SE from Ubitiqui along with 3 access points. If I am right next to my access points I get almost 900MBS down on a 1 gig setup with Spectrum. I have seen the signal strength drop for a few seconds on iPhone 15 Pro Max and that is the only issue and this only happens for a few seconds. Do the research and you will find that 5GHZ should not be set at 160MHZ. This was designed for 6GHZ bands only.

I had the same problem with the OnePlus 11 and returned it. It would loose WIFI, cell or BOTH. Took 4 months to get my refund but that's another story. I recently bought the 15 ProMax and had the exact same issues. I noticed an entry for AT&T Wifi. Deleting that, resetting the network, manually setting the phone to LTE, and turning off 5G helped... for a day. When the problem returned, I returned the iphone. Both of these phones use a Qualcomm X70 modem. It seems hardwired to prefer 5G and/or AT&T public WIFI over consumer WIFI. If the 5G is strong, it works fine but if it's weak and the 5G drops the phone doesn't revert to WIFI.
