Swipe-up no longer shows the same features/functions on Apple Watch after the update

I just updated my Apple Watch 10 to watchOS 10.0.1 The swiping motions on the watch now bring different 'option' panels. "Swipe-up" no longer shows the same functions (battery %, vibrate phone, theater mode, etc). Where can I learn how to control my watch with OS 10?

Hi, I frequently and I mean frequently swiped up on my Apple Watch to see the battery percentage, to ping my phone, turn sounds on and off, etc. Now I have to change those settings by pressing the side button 😞 Is there anyway I can change back to a swipe up to see those settings? I have also turned my automatic updates off, so this will not happen again. I believe this happened when my Apple Watch updated to the new operating system.

That may be your opinion, and your welcome to it, but the entire point of this thread is that most people here also thought that the original swipe up feature was better.

So, assuming about 10 posts per page and the thread is 16 pages long, even if every person who posted in this thread thought swiping was better, that would still only be 160 people out of the millions who own watches who haven't posted here.

And, in the end, only one opinion matters: Apple's.

No, it doesn’t easily trigger the SOS function. For the SOS function to trigger the side button needs to be held in for a second or two.A quick single click is all you need for the control center to appear. It’s also possible that your side button has become contaminated with debris (skin oil and such) and is sticky.

And I want swipe up back too but asking THIS group to bring it back is pointless. Go to the actual Apple watch feed back page and tell them.
I've given them my opinion.

I’ve given them my opinion, also, I’ve told them how I think the new method is much better, because I can go to the Control Center when there is an app on the screen (such as Workout) without having to exit the app and go back to a watch face screen, then relaunch Workout to continue.

The swipe up doesn’t work nor does pressing the side button, Destroyed a very useful function

Quickly press and release this button (see picture)

DO NOT hold the button, as that brings up the Emergency services display.

This is the worst update!!! How do I silence the watch? That was the most convenient feature. This update stinks. I can’t get it to work when I gently tap the side button and even if it did that is still silly! Change it back!

Quick press and release the flat oval side button (see picture)

As this is a user-to-user technical support forum, you are not talking to Apple, and your fellow users cannot change anything.

If enough users send feedback, it is more likely a decision maker will see it.

My swipe up on my watch was so easy to see battery life and silent mode etc now it won’t work since I did the upgrade. How can I get it back.

The previous Control Center swipe-up has moved to a quick press and release of the flat oval side button

Use Control Center on Apple Watch - Apple Support

DO NOT hold the button, as that brings up Emergency services and the power off icon.

Control Center should then show you the iPhone ping icon (find my iPhone), Battery percentage, Flashlight, Water Lock, Airplane mode, Alarm silence, Theater mode, and all the other Control Center services.

An alternate way to get some of the Control Center services is:

“Hey Siri, find my iPhone”

“Hey Siri, Flashlight”

“Hey Siri, Battery”

“Hey Siri, Airplane mode”

Getting the press and release timing just right can be an issue. You can make it more reliable by changing:

Apple Watch -> Settings -> Accessibility -> Side Button Click Speed

After changing this I never accidentally get the Emergency Services display.

“Side Button Click Speed” can adjust the press and release timing, so you get the Control Center display every time. Adjusting The “Side Button Click Speed” is also useful for Apple Pay’s double press and release. There is “Default” (sub second press and release timing needed), “Slow” (up to a second between press and release), and “Slowest” (up to 2 seconds between press and release). I like the “Slow” setting. And as I said, I do not accidentally get the wrong display.

NOTE: Slow and Slowest settings do not mean you have to wait a full second or 2 seconds between press and release. It just means you do not need to be super fast.

If the flat oval side button is giving you difficulties, then look at

Use AssistiveTouch on Apple Watch - Apple Support

Apple Watch -> Settings -> Accessibility -> AssistiveTouch

can be used to access things like:

o Control Center

o Apple Pay

o Emergency Services and the Power Off icon (labeled “Hold Side Button”)

o and many other things...

Finally, tap the very top edge of the watch face, will also bring up Control Center.

This does not consistently work for me. The oval side button still just gives me SOS/Medical/power off menu.

Swipe up was MUCH BETTER. Please bring it back.

  • ask technical team to make them switch the option back, or just give us a chance to choose the swipe up option on os 10. It was a useful feature in watch os 9.

Since the update I have called police 911 with the watch on my wrist making excercises.

Tnak you. Happy new year

PS Is not knowing how to use the function is the problem, is the software interface.

Swipe-up no longer shows the same features/functions on Apple Watch after the update
