No iMessage notification sound after IOS 17.0.1 update on iPhone 13 Max

Wife has same issue. Found a work around of turning the bluetooth off on the watch.

Go to settings, toggle bluetooth button off, shut your phone down. Turn your phone back on, toggle bluetooth back on. If you have selected a sound for text messaging, it should work.

Thank you, my husband was missing messages and I discovered that the mute button had accidentally been pressed when he was deleting a message. Unmuted it is and all good now.

Apparently, once you mute a message it carries over to all future messages from that sender - very problematic.

Fixed it by turning on banner notifications and banner alerts to persistent

I had the same problem. Restarted my phone and so far, it's working. Coincidence perhaps..

A couple of us have had luck going into Notifications settings and turning on “Notification Center “. If it is already on, turn it off and then back on.

No. The visual alerts appear on both the iPhone and watch, but no sound alert on the iPhone. If I turn off the watch, I get sound alerts on the phone.

Yes, turning off Bluetooth has been the only thing that has worked for me.

I’ve scrolled thru these 11 pages but did not see what seems to have fixed this for wife’s phone — I noticed she had display always on set. I turned that off and now it seems to work fine.

Don’t do that. Go into your watch app and turn off notifications.

I have the same exact issue. Turning off bluetooth on my MacBook fixes the issue. Hopefully they will have a fix soon.

It is not only iPhone 13! I have had this happen on both my old iPhone Max X and now on a new iPhone 15 PRO. The problem seems to be resolved now that I have turned off Bluetooth on my Apple Watch.

Not sure if this helps anyone but if you go in to the Notifications Tab and for example under the Messaging section when you click on it you should see an option where it says Sound or Notifications not sure which one but it will say On next to it.. Click on it and on the next screen you should see 2 options.. The one thats checked says something about Direct messages or custom notifications.. Click on the bottom option that says All notifications or something like that and you should get the sound and notifications back on said application.. in this case it would be for the messages..

iPhone 13 Pro Max with iOS 17.1. I hear sounds except when the screen goes to sleep. I know it's not a solution for everyone, but turning off bluetooth solved my problem.

Update: In addition, while troubleshooting, I changed my text sound from "Stargazer" to a new one. When I tried to change it back, Stargazer is gone.

I maybe wrong and have mine set up completely incorrect but when you wear your watch, your watch becomes the main driver for notifications, alerts etc when you phone is locked.

i.e phone in pocket, wearing watch. (My watch pings and alerts me to either look on my watch or pull out my phone) it’s been that way forever for me) unless it’s a call then both ring out

I would unpair and restore - no harm in trying. Apple Support will ask you to do that should you call or go into store.

other things to check, make sure you have checked your volume levels on your watch

watch, settings, sounds, alert volume.

it maybe low and you’re missing the sounds ??
