No iMessage notification sound after IOS 17.0.1 update on iPhone 13 Max

Have you experimented with turning off Bluetooth on other devices? (iMac, iPad, Watch...)

Turning off Bluetooth finally worked for me!

I’m a novice but I checked iMessages settings and had notification and sound turned off. Turned it on and I get the new text sound.

settings-iMessage-notifications-allow-sound (pick your favorite).

Burke, have you tried turning off Bluetooth?

This bug has persisted through several iOS versions (two years in my case) and different tweaks seem to work for different people.

Hope you find a fix.

I was on a phone call with Apple Support for a long time, the rep said it’s a software issue. I informed her that this was occurring for me before ios17, which she informed me was rare. I was told if I got a new iPhone this problem would most likely continue because it’s software related. This is a frustrating situation for the people it affects.

This is happening to both my sister and myself. iPhone 15 Pro Max. For me it's just an annoyance but she is a trauma surgeon and when she is on call she NEEDS to hear her message sounds, someone's life could depend on it, this should be PRIORITY to be fixed. It is clearly a software issue as it is happening with many gen's of iPhones. I have tried about every fix I have seen here and elsewhere and nothing. Restarting works for a minute or so but not for long.

Update to my previous post, my problem was not able to be solved! I was given a case number and told that Apple continues to work on this issue, and to keep up with phone updates.

Yes they said they were sorry I was having this problem. It was hard for me to be upset with the supervisor guy because he was quite obviously embarrassed that this problem is happening. There is no fix and they don't know when it will be fixed. I'm sure it's difficult to work for a company like Apple when they can't even get their phones to make a text message sound. Like I said before, I don't have to buy their product in the future.

These issues are also causing me to not get messages while I'm in my car. I previously could easily respond hands free to someone's text message, but now I have to wait until I get to wherever I'm going to be able to check for messages and respond. It's super inconvenient. I've told most everyone I know that they have to call me instead of sending text messages. This is my temporary solution. I can't just discard my one year old phone and get a new one at this time.

I would not recommend turning off wrist detection, their are multiple fixes that work for different people.

for me, not once have I read anyone has tried to unpair and pair their watch as new

i posted previously how to fix the issue without a watch connected.

if your watch is causing you an issue, then run the unpair pair as new and see what results you get.

you can also reset all settings

This worked flawlessly after turning off message notifications in I-watch app. I have began getting notifications immediately while on lock screen. This has been the biggest pain for almost a year. Thank you so very much!

If you have an apple watch, apparently in apple's wonderful wisdom...they've decided that a user should not get a notification on both devices at the same time. About notifications - Apple Support (IE)

Setting messages notifications: make sure time sensitive notifications is turned on make sure lock screen alert, notification center and banners are all checked as on and lock screen appearance: show previews always.

Go to settings, notifications & make sure messages is on & see if that works.

You are right. I get notifications on my watch always and never on my phone. Come to think of it, when I don’t have my watch on my notifications on my work just fine.

Go into focus and turn off your automatic switch
