iOS 17 Messages -> Info: no longer displays Satellite map view

After upgrading to iOS 17, the Messages App no longer displays the Satellite map for my contacts. I do see that Messages will display a Standard map only. If I click on the estimated travel time at the bottom of the screen, Messages redirects to Maps and then shows a route to that contact. However, that's not what I'm always interested in doing. Sometimes, I need to see the location of my contact without a routing map. The satellite view was golden. How do I get it back? Is there an option somewhere that I need to activate, or has the feature been deprecated?

JoA59, it’s on both iPad and iPhone. In iMessage, click on the person you share with. Then click on the map window. Then click on the folding map icon in the upper right top. You will then see two choices below the map: Explore and Satellite. Then select satellite view.

Apple! It’s like we’ve gone back 10 years in one iOS revision! Please bring back the satellite view for tracking locations of our loved ones! The new cartoon version is choppy and not helpful at all! I usually welcome upgrades, but I will NEVER upgrade again without a long test drive through Friends to see what’s new, and now possibly unimproved. Apple juice, I am the biggest fan of the iPhone on the planet, but even so I have to ask What on earth were you thinking?? Please fix it ASAP!

and please put the speakerphone button back on the right side during a call where it’s easiest to reach! Thank you!

Ok, so I responded to BBBert about his findings about a certain testing software that I can’t mention here, and Apple responded right away by removing my post, and informed me as such in an email and referred me to a testing site. Again, I can’t mention the word, or this will be deleted? OK, so someone or a bot is crawling and seeing what we are talking about, but neither can answer a simple question as to when the satellite view is going to return? This is infuriating, insulting, and treating us like we are children who are not allowed to have information about something we are paying for.

Yes, I saw it and noticed it was immediately deleted. I’ve had posts deleted for reasons I wasn’t aware of until it happened…I think it was due to a complaint about something. But thanks for trying to give us hope. There are rules that apply when you agree to test and one is you aren’t to talk about any features on any media—text, community support, etc. I can see a point because some features might be something that Apple later decides not to include. Hopefully this won’t happen here.

Apple pl get us back the satellite view on location sharing. Yes, it has taken us 10 years back! I stay in Bengaluru - in India. My son has his location shared with me and is always on the move and I keep checking his location. Now it’s boring and does not show the terrains. Pl look into this issue and fix it. Is not shall we go back to iOS 16? Let us know your clarification or any ways to get it back.
