iPhone 15 CarPlay Not Working

My Apple CarPlay worked great on my iPhone 14, and does not work with the new iPhone 15 USB-c. The car only has a USB port, and I’ve tried multiple USB to USB-C cables and none work. What’s going on? It’s a 2023 Mazda CX-30

Same thing with the 2017 Honda civic and my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I’m honestly disappointed to see that Apple hasn’t addressed this yet. I love this phone but I love CarPlay more, and I might have to switch to something else if this isn’t resolved.

My iPhone 14 PM worked great with my 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When I got my iPhone 15 PM with IOS 17.1 running, none of the USB-A to USB-C cables I tried from Anker, Belkin, and generic (Best Buy?) worked. These are not cheap cables and all are listed as "works with Apple/Samsung"

I also tried resetting the carplay head unit/radio, plugging/unplugging, and ensuring there was no screen time restriction for carplay.

Does the iPhone 15 look for the MFC chip and the iPhone 14 did not?

I wish I had known this before I bought the 15 PM.

RESOLVED (1026/2023)

I had the same issue with my 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee with UConnect. I tried 5 cables all known good Power/Data cables.

finally, someone suggested the following and it works!

1. Turn off your phone (Power Down)

2. Make sure Jeep is also off - this might apply to other vehicles with Uconnect

3. Plug phone to jeep USB PORT

4. Turn on Jeep. My phone powered up and Said "carplay finished setup" or something like that

Now you should see Uconnect in the carplay configuration under settings -> general -> carplay..

Sometimes I have to unplug and plug phone back in but this has been working all day

I have the same problem, new iPhone 15pro with a 2023 Prius. Apple Car Play will sometimes connect sometime it won’t. If it does connect I a fine until I turn the car off. Then I cannot get to reconnect. Today I called Apple , told the rep that it is an Apple problem after looking at all the complaints so far on the internet. The rep told me to start the car as I was talking to the rep, amazing everything connected, no problem. We talked a bit then hung up and boom, I was automatically disconnected from Apple CR Play. As long as my phone was connected to Apple everything worked fine, the rep disconnected and away went Apple Car Play. Figure that out.

iphone 15pro vs Jeep Cherokee corded CarPlay. After using hotspot on phone CarPlay quit working when I went back to car. Phone was charging and bluetooth connected via usb a-c cable. just no CarPlay.. On phone with multiple apple support techs finally the answer was to reset the network. It now works. Sounds like an Apple bug and not cord? if so how do you report bugs?

I have a 2022 Mazda CX-30 and I am having the exact same issue. CarPlay is real picking with iPhones not using Apple made cords. And since they don't make a USB to USB-C cable, we are starting to see issues. I never had an issue with my 14 either. Maybe all it will require is a firmware update for the Mazda infotainment unit. There is a workaround if the CarPlay doesn't initially work when you first start driving or if it cuts out while you are driving. Simply navigate the unit to tune into either a SiriusXM channel or FM channel. Once the audio comes through from the FM or SiriusXM channel, you can go back to CarPlay and the audio will start working fine.

i have my phone set up to connect via bluetooth too, and i also have spotify, so when i get in the car, i press play on my music once it connects to the bluetooth THEN i plug in my usb-c and it plays music. it’s not the bluetooth audio either, it works through spotify on my display. it just somehow helps connect the music to apple carplay. i can’t explain it, but just try it.

I had the same issue with CarPlay not working with my new iPhone 15. I tried a few cables, no changes. I own a Chevy Impala 2018 and I got the idea to reset CarPlay in my Car’s Menu system. Since then I don’t care what cable it is, they ALL work and CarPlay works just fine. Try resetting your CarPlay in your car’s menu system.

I finally have mine working again without issue. I removed my Apple CarPlay profile from my vehicles infotainment unit, then removed the CarPlay profile from my iPhone 15 Pro Max under settings->general->carplay, then powered off my vehicle and iPhone. Plugged the cable back into the iPhone, powered up the vehicle and re-setup the CarPlay profile. Now it’s working without issue.

I just installed a new Pioneer DMH-466ONEX and set it up to connect to my phone wirelessly. The Apple carplay works except for the navigation apps. Routes have errors and I get crazy directions to make unneeded turns including unsafe U-turns. Crazy! I called Pioneer and they said that many of their head units are having trouble with iPhone 15. So, my problem isn't related to the USB connector because I am connecting by Bluetooth or W-Fi. Yes, the Pioneer unit has built in Wi-Fi. Not sure what to do next. But it seems like this is an Apple iOS problem.

For those who haven't been following this discussion, it appears that the main thing is to totally reset your cars CarPlay. Delete ALL of the devices that may be paired to your system, basically make it "Factory default". I had to do this several times to get mine to work, and now it works better than it ever has. It syncs to my iPhone much faster than it used to with my iPhone 11. It works via Bluetooth or the Anker USB-A to USB-C cable. Like I already said, it works way smoother than ever before. In my case, it's an iPhone 15 Pro max and a 2019 BMW.
