iPhone 15 CarPlay Not Working

My Apple CarPlay worked great on my iPhone 14, and does not work with the new iPhone 15 USB-c. The car only has a USB port, and I’ve tried multiple USB to USB-C cables and none work. What’s going on? It’s a 2023 Mazda CX-30

Same thing with the 2017 Honda civic and my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I’m honestly disappointed to see that Apple hasn’t addressed this yet. I love this phone but I love CarPlay more, and I might have to switch to something else if this isn’t resolved.

I had the exact same problem with my Toyota Yaris 2021. It charges but it is not detected by CarPlay. It works fine in my Jeep Renegade with Uconnect using the same cable. I tested some other cables with Yaris and one of them (shorter and thicker) solved the problem. It seems that the multimedia in some cars have lower power USB ports so the combination with a high impedance cable (longer, thinner, bad quality) cause detection failure of iPhone 15.

I have a Ford Explorer 2021 with Sync 3 and an Iphone 15 Pro Max. Car Play stopped working on Sync3. Resolved by purchasing a USB-A to USB-C adapter and a USB-C male to USB-C male connection cord that connects the phone and the adapter. Purchase was from Amazon .. about $25. This fixed my problem. Still not happy I had to spend money that should have worked out of the box.

I found a solution: After trying high quality cords and adapters along with the apple cord, nothing was working. I saw a post on Mac Rumors about this issue. One of the fixes suggested was turning off your VPN before you start the car. It worked. I know it sounds like VPN would be completely unrelated to issues with USB connected Apple CarPlay, but it worked. I turned off my VPN before getting into the car and it worked.

Might not be the fix for everyone but it worked for me.. as weird as that sounds. Hope this helps some of you because this issue is extremely frustrating.

I posted a solution that worked for me a few days ago. After trying several cords and adapters, and nothing worked, I saw a post on Mac Rumors that suggested turning off your VPN, if you have one, before turning on the car. I know it sounds completely unrelated to the problem but it worked for me. If you have a VPN running on your phone, turn it off before turning on the vehicle and before plugin in your phone.

I have same issue with iPhone 15Pro and the USB-C. Wireless CarPlay works fine. Wired CarPlay in rental cars and one of my cars that only has wired CarPlay does not work. I bought this wireless adapter and it works great! Just plug it in to the USB port of your car or rental and poof, you now have a working wireless CarPlay. Just unpair your device first, per the wireless adapter instructions. Aluratek - Wireless Adapter for Apple CarPlay

Fixed! Same problem with new iPhone 15 and a 2020 Honda. Turns out some USB-a to USB-c cables are "charge only" and some others carry data also. After trying all my cables in the drawer of cables I went and bought a "Belkin BoostCharge Pro Flex" USB-a to USB-c cable and viola it works like it used to with the older phone and lightning cable. $20 for the cable

Same with 2019 Cadillac XT4. Won't even charge consistently. I bought the cables/adapters etc and while it will work intermittently, it's inconsistent. Bought the lightning to USB-C dongle and returned immediately after a failed test. Apple should be better than that - it's basic stuff. Disappointing for sure, but at least acknowledge the problem and work on a fix.
