iPhone 15 CarPlay Not Working

My Apple CarPlay worked great on my iPhone 14, and does not work with the new iPhone 15 USB-c. The car only has a USB port, and I’ve tried multiple USB to USB-C cables and none work. What’s going on? It’s a 2023 Mazda CX-30

Same thing with the 2017 Honda civic and my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I’m honestly disappointed to see that Apple hasn’t addressed this yet. I love this phone but I love CarPlay more, and I might have to switch to something else if this isn’t resolved.

Been working with Apple Support (senior tech) since September 18. I've sent logs 3 times.

My '22 Wrangler Rubicon's U-Connect firmware is up-to-date on the 8.4 display re: the dealer.

My 14 Pro worked flawlessly for a year. (Yes, I deleted it from the U-Connect memory before adding the 15 Pro)

I have a "burner" iPhone 8 and if I tether, I get a prompt asking if I want to set up CarPlay.

I have spent $29 on the Apple USB C to Lightning adapter & returned it. It never worked.

I have spent another $70 on various combinations of cables (USB C to USB C, USB C to USB A) Apple branded as well as aftermarket. I have had some success if I unplug and replug multiple times with the Anker USB A to C woven in a 3' length. I also had success with my GoPro's USB A to C 12". As you know, the GoPro cable is made to transfer heavy data loads. My Apple Support tech was especially interested in this and had me send a log using the GoPro cable.

The CarPlay issue has even appeared in Newsweek. I am hopeful Apple will address it in iOS 17.1.

I'm an owner of a Ferrari Roma MY2021 and Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster MY2020 and have suffered this problem for weeks since I bought a new iPhone 15 Pro on the day it launched. Because I haven't updated the software of the Ferrari, neither of the two supports Wireless CarPlay, so I was in the same situation as you and had to fix the problem.

Long story short, the problem was the cable and both works well with the USB-A to USB-C cables. I mean, iPhone 15 Pro x Ferrari and iPhone 15 x Lamborghini. Guess the cables i'd tried before were charging only (not transferring data). Had bought Belkin USB-C to USB-A Cable (it says it is a 1M, 3.3FT, 10Gbps USB-C 3.1 Cable. Can't find SKU number, sorry.) before I read this thread, and bought the recommended Anker 322 USB-A to USB-C Cable 6ft Braided. Both work fine. Moreover, I came to know that my Aventador supports Android Auto. I tried connecting my Galaxy ZFold 4 with the Anker cable and the Android Auto showed up. I'd thought the car doesn't support Android Auto before. In contrast, Roma didn't support Android Auto.

Someone in this thread said they felt the sound quality also got better after changing the USB cable. It could be a sort of placebo, but I felt so too, anyways.

I had the same issue with CarPlay not working with my new iPhone 15. I tried a few cables, no changes. I own a Chevy Impala 2018 and I got the idea to reset CarPlay in my Car’s Menu system. Since then I don’t care what cable it is, they ALL work and CarPlay works just fine. Try resetting your CarPlay in your car’s menu system.

I have head through so many threads to figure out a solution without much luck. Does your phone charge when it shows disconnected from Carplay? I tried multiple cables and USB-A to USB-C adapters and still had intermittent issues. Sometimes it would connnect and then disconnect and then connect and disconnect. I finally saw a correlation between the charge on the phone and when it wouldn't connect. I don't know the exact break point, but when the phone was below 60% or so it would not connect or charge. When it was a higher charge like 80% and above I never see an issue.

Phillip,

I had the same issue. I tried a new cord, adapters, updated the Sync3 in my truck (2018 F150) and had the latest phone update on my iPhone 15. In a last ditch effort, I ended up deleting an app on my phone and reinstalled it. As strange as this is going to sound, it seemed to be the Google maps app that was causing the disconnection issue. I have no idea why but suddenly be my phone and CarPlay worked and has been working flawlessly ever since. Oh BTW, it doesn’t matter what cord I use now. All seem to work. For convenience I’m using a USBa to USBc adapter with a coil cord. I’m very curious if this may work for you and others too.

2023 Subaru Forester with CarPlay. Iphone 15

Another user had it right for the solution when I tried it.

I deleted my Iphone 15 ID used during first try from car’s blue tooth devices. Renamed my Iphone 15. Then used car’s blue tooth connection to find it and the Subaru screen found it and provided pairing ID, my Iphone 15 recognized it and I allowed pairing.

Played music from phone to car via blue tooth no problem. Then I connected the USB-C cable to my phone with the cable having a standard male USB connection at other end and plugged into Subaru USB port. Pressed CarPlay on Subaru panel, and now Carplay is working just fine with Subaru screen interface.

Oh happy day! Car play is now working again in my Honda Odyssey with new iphone pro max. After trying everything I was reading elsewhere, I tried Apple Support. I bought the Belkin cable they recommended and found the only USB port where it will work for car play. All USB ports are not the same apparently.

Sadly, your Verizon dealer is spreading nonsense on several fronts.

As I stated, your iPhone includes smart electronics that will do what is best for your battery.

Have you followed all the tips here as to how to setup your phone for wireless CarPlay? Some vehicle will require you to delete your old phone and setup your new phone when you change phones.
