HomeKit automation not working after iOS 17

All my automation are not working anymore after updating : I don’t think connection is the problem because I can control all my devices (2 HomePod paired and Apple TV 4K) with home app without problems.

Automation are completely broken, I try to delete them and reboot HomePods but I can’t fix them, they don’t trigger when they should but they don’t work even with “verify automation” button

The phone could perfectly control all devices except with automations

HomePod, 17

I hope that some of you can make those automations work again with the next points:

1) turn on your location services AND most important 'significant locations'

2) make sure the time zone location service in privacy and security settings is turned on. (sunset and sun rise may differ from location to location, even when you stay in the same time zone)

3) Set date and time in 'General Settings' to automatic.

4) Delete and set up all time or sunset and rise related automations. Be sure to undo and redo some specific weekdays. It seems that during updates this informations has not been set up right. This may also happen when you switch to another iPhone of pod or AppleTV. (I think )

5 Open iCloud settings on all your devices and switch off the Home app from syncing.

6) Shut down all your devices and restart them.

7) Open iCloud settings again and switch syncing for the Home app on.

(And when by accident you have 'Home Controller app' installed because someone told you it was so useful, just delete that one. It may mess things up, don't instal it again.)

These points are only for those with automations not working. Siri not working has another reason is my believe. I don't give any guarantees ;-) But it will be nice to know if some of you get the automations to work again.

Same here. I used to have a shortcut to start a playlist 'when bedtime ends' but since IOS17 it runs randomly. Annoying because I missed many wakeup, now I need to setup a conventional alarm with this one-same-song every day... I've tried to disable, reenable, uncheck and re- all the settings, and it works with the 'test' button, but I can't find a solution to that. Was working for several years already without one failure...

I’m facing the same exact issue, my TV (LG C9) can trigger anything on shut down, but not when turned on. This is a problem, because it no longer turns on a light strip behind it, it can only turn it off. The problem started after updating to 17.1 (iPhone and Apple TV). At first I thought it was an issue with the tv itself, but restoring factory settings and adding it again to HomeKit didn’t help. Please look into this issue, as it’s the only useful feature of HomeKit enabled tv

And I thought it was me. After updating to 17 (now 17.1) shortcuts sometimes work and sometimes generate error messages. I have an automation to play BBC Sounds Radio4 at a certain time in the morning. It worked randomly in 17 and not at all in 17.1. Tried triggering it with a silent alarm and when alarm goes off condition, but no difference. Now checking to see if the automation is failing to punch through the new Standby feature, but other random failures and this thread suggests it's a bug in the Shortcuts/Automation code. It needs to be fixed!

I’m in the same boat as you guys are. My lights automations seem to be working correctly but all the automations involving playing music at a certain time of the day or night stopped working altogether. I tried everything, rebooting my WiFi, restarting and rebooting the HomePods, I tried toggling off and back on my location services, signed off of my iCloud account and then back on. I also toggled off my music library sync and then back on but nothing has solved the issue. Music won’t connect to the home pods. My WiFi has a strong signal so I reckon that’s not the problem (also because it has always worked before) they just stopped working… I actually don’t want to create a new home and set everything back up again, it’s nonsense, I’d simply like them to just work as they did before

My simple automation (time-based trigger for a shortcut to Play Radio 4 via BBC Sounds) worked for two days, so I turned Standby back on to see if that was the (an) issue. It all still worked the third day! I left this arrangement untouched to see what happened the fourth day. It failed. The trigger went off (iPhone and connected Apple Watch let me know), which I then had to manually turn off, but it failed to trigger the automation and play the radio. Same the fifth day. I have reported to Apple via their feedback page, but looks like it will need a fix in iOS ...

My automation stopped after iOS 17.1.1 when the tvOS was also updated by the way and coincidently my LGtv also had an update. This last device can function as a hub for HomeKit-devices. But the LGtv-app on my iPhone 15 pro, does not sync with HomeKit.

I only have simple automations for my Nanoleaf lights enabled, for which I also need to keep the Nanoleaf-app on my phone, that cannot perform automations, according to the info in my app. Probably because it needs Matter to perform such.

A few days ago my automations worked again. But.... 2 days ago it stopped working again.

Things I tries but did not work: Reset tvOS to factory defaults, delete Home-app on my phone restart it and re-install the Homa-app again, switch off my TV, delete the Nanoleaf-app and reinstall, delete automations and set them up again etc.

It could be that the bug sits in the iCloud. But I have no idea why this odd behaviour happens.

Before iOS 17 I had an automation to play music from my Apple TV to my AirPort Express at 6 in the morning. Worked great before iOS 17 but doesn't work at all any more. What is strange is that after the automation is triggered, I can see it playing when looking on my iPhone via control center- media control- "Control Other Speakers & TVs" but no audio is being sent from the Apple TV. If I turn on my tv the Apple TV seems to be in off/stand by mode and as soon as I turn the Apple TV on, it starts sending audio to my AirPort Express.

Same thing is if I manually try to play music from my Apple TV -> AirPort Express using my iPhone via "Control Other Speakers & TVs", it does not work until I manually turn the Apple TV on.

Update:

Now it doesn’t work Even with manual controls

I can use the homepods as temporary speakers of the AppleTV but if I ask Siri to turn off the tv replies that it is not connected

I have an automation that should start the music on the homepods instead it turns on the AppleTv that is not even among the devices of that automation

Impossible to use

Kind of the same story here for me.

In fact, automations are working, but only to shut down everything.

I have several automations to turn on the light, color & brightness depending on the time of the day when I turn the TV on, but for a few days, those automations aren't working anymore. The TV turn on, but not the lights. I've tried to find where the issue is coming from, by adding another automation like playing music when the TV turn on, but same issue.

However, I have an automation to turn all the lights off when I turn off the TV during the day, and it's working fine.

Definitely a software issue.

I've deleted, my Homekit TV (LG CX), all the automations, reset my homepods, Apple TV, ... and recreate it again (via the Home app, and as Shortcuts) but nothing worked.

I don't want to delete my current Home and create a new one, or at least if really necessary (and not sure it will fix it as the automations is working in one way...).

I think I'm out of solutions.

If someone has a solution I didn't try, I'll be happy to learn more about it.

Yeah it's a pity.

But don't look too far, about wi-fi or router, or iCloud account, and HomePods.

My automation is very local (iPhone) and simple : When waking up (bedtime native trigger) Play a playlist and Set volume.

This has worked EVERY single day for years, I got only one fail when my phone obviously updated over night. Otherwise I use this as my only wake-up alarm for years and I never missed a flight !!!

Since IOS 17 it fails often and sometimes it works ; I still couldn't identify the reason why...
