I am unable to change default timer tone on iPhone after updating to iOS 17

I updated yesterday and had a horrible night's sleep because of this very issue! I just now figured out that you can tell Siri to set the sleep timer for X minutes. Although it was better if they left well enough alone, that seems to work. Hope that helps.

this seems to have been fixed in 17.1.1. I’m not having the issue anymore.

Yep, 17.1 for sure. No worries man, thanks for trying, I have no idea why it works for some and not for others but I found a workaround for my personal situation, teaching my mother to ask Siri for a "sleep timer" specifically, whenever she asks that, it does what I need and cuts off the music/podcast you're playing when the timer ends regardless of the timer settings, so it works for what I needed.

It'll work for you if you specifically ask Siri for a "sleep timer", then it doesn't take the radial default sound, it understands what you're asking for. It's been working for me the past few weeks when nothing else would.

BTW, if you don't look at the [phone, the face detection / nearness detection turns off, and it rings louder. But it's still that awful default sound.

Right, we all can agree that Radial is too quiet.

Apple please let us set the default tone, and volume either through the clock app or through general: sounds & haptics. The latter would make the most sense since it’s where all the other default sounds are located. They added the timer name feature, but forgot to add Siri support and default support in app or sounds and haptics and need to correct this in an update

For those who use set times for eye drops or breathing with cancer, have you considered using a Reminder? That is customizable and you can change the default sound. Before my eye surgery, I used a couple Reminders and calendar events.

For those who use different timer times, I feel your pain and wish Apple would fix this. I change the radial and next time I use Siri, not only does it use radial, it changes the default!

I tried manually setting a 10s then 15s timers. Then asked Siri to do a 30 second timer. The first time I did the sequence I did not lock my phone and of course it was radial that sounded. I did the 10s then 15s timers then locked my phone and asked Siri to do a 30 second timer. Radial again.

It works for Siri too. Maybe try deleting all your previous timers and/or update to iOS 17.1 if you had not done so.

horrible update!!! i have hearing loss and presto was loud and easy for me to hear when my phone is in another room. i’ve already burned one tray of cookies since this new whisper timer sounds default. FIX THIS!!!

I have a particular issue in that I use my timer eight times a day when putting eye drops into each eye. I cannot set the timer manually and use the eye drops at the same time.

I expect much better from Apple. This is truly an appalling error on their part.
