I am unable to change default timer tone on iPhone after updating to iOS 17

I can no longer change the default timer for when I say “hey siri, set timer for 15 minutes”. It plays some super quiet tone that I can’t hear while I’m working. If I want to change it to one of my own that’s 4x louder, I have to stop and set a timer manually. Which causes a problem with my job. Yeah sure it takes only like a minute, but at my job, it’s a big deal.

why did Apple remove the custom default timer tone option?? What is the possible benefit of this? Even worse, why did they set it to the quietest tone they could??

Found a workaround to this irritating problem. Apparently after you set the default timer (1 sec), press start and let the timer countdown and sound off. After that it will stick to the default sound you had set. I am on IOS 17.1

I have experienced the same thing. Apple has started assuming what's best for the end user and shouldn't. One ridiculous thing they put in place is, if you are using your iPhone in whatever manner, the ringtone is automatically lowered. Who needs this!?!?! If you're in a quiet room and the timer goes off, people will hear it no matter how low Apple thinks the sound should be or if you re using your phone or not. Besides, this setting wouldn't cut mustard in a NYC theater. Worse the tone they chose for default is practically inaudible even when I figured out how to hear it at its loudest. In other words, the default alarm tone is useless. Apple, bring back our ability to change the default tone!

I’ve tried the idea of the 15 second timer thing and it goes straight back to default it’s really irritating me I prefer my original timer alarm because it was perfect for it now Siri has a problem with me using it unless I manually set it it’s not fun but it does it for my alarms though kinda stupid either make both remember the last ringtone to be used or don’t bother giving it to us since only sorting one isn’t fair on us!

Yes and I was happy using my original ringtone for my timer but Siri has a problem with using it because it thinks Radial is the only one to use nothing else before 17 it was using it every time I asked for a timer and I was happy now it’s got a problem with it so I have a problem with Siri not respecting my decision that I want a specific ringtone to play not the stupid default junk

I set a 20 timer at night while I watch/listen to a show on my phone that I fall asleep to. Instead of a ringer, i set it to turn off at the end of timer. After this update, so many times I've been woken up because it changes to the Radial ringtone. Started using the "other brand's" phone for work. Might switch there completely. These small issues are becoming more and more abundant

My problem exactly. This woke me up out of a deep sleep last night and resulted in me having a horrible night's sleep because I was trying to figure it out all night. I use voice commands to set the timer multiple times during the night when I wake up and want to listen to podcasts - just long enough to fall back asleep. I'm going to restore back to the earlier version until they (hopefully) fix this.
