iPhone 15 Pro Max Apple Pay not working

When i try to use Apple Pay on my new phone, after double clicking on side button, message comes up to bring phone nearer to the terminal, i have had phone in all positions on the terminal but payment will not complete, then the wallet app freezes when i try to cancel app and restart. It is not just one cards it happens on all cards. I have tried cancelling cards and re-applying them, restarting phone, these have not resolved the problem. Meanwhile apple pay on my watch is working fine. Anyone had this problem, or has ideas to fix?

Do you drive a BMW? Have you charged your phone on the surface charger inside of the car? From what happened to me and other on another forum, that may be the culprit. I and other had to get replacement phones from Genius Bar. The diagnostic test showed a failed Apple Pay unit.

good morning to everyone in this thread. I just got off the phone with apple support about the Iphone 15pro Apple pay canceling transactions/ not recognizing payment issue. they ran a remote diagnostic on my device and confirmed no Hardware issue of any kind every system is running ok including the Apple Pay Unit. they informed me the day the payments stopped working is the same day my phone automatically updated to ios17.0.2 this update is the issue. They informed me multiple people are having the same issue. they will be rolling out a patch update in the coming days to resolve the issue with Apple Pay.

I have an Iphone 15 Pro Max. IOS 17.0.2 Mine wasn't working either. Deleted all cards, re-entered manually. Logged out of all Icloud accounts. Re-entered the cards. Re-booted the device. Diagnostic came back fine. Then they suggested I remove the case (a magsafe "compatible" case -- with the little circle/line pattern 0- in the back). It worked without the dang case.

I solved by getting a new device from Apple at the Genius Bar. As far ad I understood if you are able to set up cards on Apple pay but you are not able to pay in phisical stores with your device, you have an hardware issue and either they change the nfc module or they replace the phone. Before the replacement the Apple support sales me to try to:

  • reset settings
  • restore iPhone in recovery mode
  • set up iphone as new one without a backup recovery

if after the above activities you are still not able to set up cards or pay…set up an appointment at Genius Bar and ask for a replacement.

with the replaced phone and after 1 month of normal usage and updates no more issue!

(to be honest i’ve never charged the phone via wireless chargers…i’m too scared about possibile results after the BMW Issue)

This what happens when multiple people comment to the same post. Everyone poster has a different issue and don’t read who the comments are directed towards.

Bewlaybrother — I’d suggest you contact Apple support and have them do remote diagnostics on your iPhone. Your description and troubleshooting steps point towards an NFC hardware issue. You can also make an appointment for the Genius Bar at a nearby Apple Store if it’s convenient.

I'm fairly certain my issue is with the case. I have a fairly pricey case -- Speck iPhone 15 Pro Max Case - ClickLock No-Slip Interlock, Built for MagSafe, Drop Protection Grip - Soft Touch 6.7 Inch Phone Case - Presidio2.

I use a mag safe, non-apple charger (3 in 1 Magnetic Wireless Travel Foldable Charging Station with Light for Apple Multiple Devices, Mag-Safe Charger Portable Stand, Compatible with iPho), and 2 different (Anker), suface chargers -- no Mag, and a battery surface charger with Mag (AOGUERBE Magnetic Power Bank, 10000mAh Foldable Wireless Portable Charger with USB-C Cable LED Display, Mag-Safe Battery Pack 22.5W PD Fast Charging).

If I take the case off, my apple pay works fine. With the case, it works on about 25%-40% of the scanners.

In Apple Store , they tested and Apple Pay was not working . Their diagnostic showed the sensor was good hence they said it was a software issue and I need to take back up of everything and reinstall . Nothing worked. They dont want to replace the phone . Went to Verizon store where I bought the phone and they replaced it with a brand new phone . Now the new one is working good. Surprised with the customer service from Apple Store , even they tested and confirmed the Apple Pay was not working .. good that I didn’t buy this phone in an Apple Store

After Apple support did the online diagnostics they sent me to an authorised apple repairer but they weren’t able to say how long it would take - possibly weeks and no replacement phone in the meantime. 🙄Not good enough after paying so much only two months ago. After another hour back onto Apple Support yesterday and they agreed to replace my phone with a new one. They’re sending it to me (I live a long way from Apple Store) and I can keep this one til it arrives. I did have to give credit card to cover cost that will be fully refunded when I send my faulty phone back.

I was finally able to get Apple Cash working. The Apple tech spent about an hour going over literally every possibility (short of swapping the iP for another one) as to why Apple Cash wasn't working and 2Fa continued to indicate it was on and functioning properly when it wasn't. We finally signed out of iCloud and signed back in after restarting the iP. That worked. Apparently when restoring from my old iP13p to the new iP15p, iCloud didn't sign me back in. Although I don't use it for anything financial, iCloud is necessary to use Apple Cash apparently. In any case, kind of a simple fix to what was a lengthy and annoying problem. Hopefully this fix may help someone with their Wallet or Apple Cash issue.

(Now... if "My-Q" will fix their app to operate with the new iOS, that would be great)

thank you all for your patience.

I had my iphone 15 plus for around two days, and the apple pay issue arises. although I happen to have a BMW too.

However, from what I can see, this seems to be a general issue not bounded to BMW.

I ended up to return the phone to apple store and use my old iphone 12 pro again because I don't have time to get it repaired and I need apple pay/wallet as my car key.

BTW, I have pretty good tech savvy so I did try to reinstall the OS and nothing worked, it seems to be more a NFC hardware issue than a software glitch.

Hi all, update from my end. In the last 2 weeks I haver only managed about 3 successful transaction out of approx. 30 attempts. Updated to 7.03 this week, made no difference. Rang apple support today, they did a remote test on my phone, they now believe there is a hardware issue with the phone which will need a repair. So, I am booked in at and Apple Store this weekend. I'm hoping this solves my problem.
