iPhone 15 Pro Max Apple Pay not working

I got by mistake 2 iPhone 15Pro, I started using one and everything was good. Suddenly the apple pay stop working, it was telling me the cards were being updated, then stopped working completely, on all 10 cards I have loaded it says "This card cannot be used". I haven't return the second phone I got, so I went and returned the one it wasn't working. I still haven't delete the info on my 14 pro so I copied everything on my other 15pro, everything was fine and suddenly the same happened exactly. I have a new BMW and it seems like this happened while I was connecting my phone on the car. Then my wife's 15Pro Max started having the same issue. Everything works fine, except the apple pay. And cannot listed to the phone on the BMW.

There are multiple reports on Facebook and Reddit about BMWs causing a hardware issue with iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. To the best of my knowledge Apple has not officially responded. Here’s one of multiple articles on the issue.

Same! I called and they tried to do some diagnosing over the phone. They ended up scheduling me an appointment at the genius bar. They couldn’t figure out what was wrong with there either, so they reset my phone. Still didn’t work! They finally had to send me a brand new replacement phone, and now it finally works. It was so annoying.

I'm glad your problem was solved but having to get a new phone is a real inconvenience. Is Apple going to reimburse me for the screen protector I installed on my phone, for example? And given the number of people having issues, it doesn't seem like a new phone is guaranteed to not have the same issues.

Just wondering if this is something you have to pay for? I just got an iPhone 15 3 days ago and Apple Pay only works at vending machines so far. I’m not about to pay money to fix a faulty phone.

Just had the same problem with my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Tried using apple pay and said all cards were unavailable. Attempted to do a hard reset and then the phone went into restore data mode for about 10-20 minutes. After rebooting, the cards were marked as "unavailable." Removed the cards and cannot add them back since every time I hit the plus sign it says "Apple Pay Not Available." Attempted to reset settings and now it's been stuck at the Apple logo for about 30 minutes.

Me too! I’ve just upgraded to 15 Pro from 13 Pro and ApplePay doesn’t work. Like you, it just says to hold the phone nearer the reader! I’ve tried with and without the Mous cover in case the cover was the problem. I’ve also deleted my card from the Wallet, turned the phone off and on again and reinstalled the card manually but it still gives the same message 🤷‍♀️

I’m currently on hold with AppleCare; they’ve gone through the diagnostics and can’t find a problem…just trying to sort out a replacement as I’m within 14 days but they’ve suggested to return the phone and THEN they’ll send a replacement so I’m trying to find another solution!

Difficult to say. In my case it first seemed to be a software issue, since the problem occured with iOS 17.1. I called the helpline yesterday and they recommended to put the phone into recovery mode and do an update with iTunes. It was said, the problem is known. After doing all the recommended steps, I still have the issue though. However, it doesn't seem to be a systematic error, otherwise there would be a large echo in the media (besides the NFC issue linked to BMW). In any case, it is a new phone - not even 4 weeks old - it was expensive and Apple Pay for me is a key function, which I frequently use. Currently, I can only use it once in a while, which to be honest is not acceptable when buying such an expensive phone. But I'm sure Apple will find a solution, i.e. fixing it soon with Software Update, repairing it or replacing the phone with a new one.

Mine is the opposite; only had the phone 15 Pro for a week and ApplePay said hold near reader. 2 hours on the phone to Apple on Saturday, no problem on the remote diagnostics, eventually Apple were going to send a new phone (no one I spoke to seemed aware of the issue) but I updated to iOS 17.1 Saturday night and ApplePay worked afterwards. I hope it’s a long term fix!

I insisted that I wasn’t going to be without a phone by only getting a replacement after I’d returned mine, eventually they agreed that as I had AppleCare they would send a replacement first. HOWEVER…I updated to iOS 17.1 on Saturday night and yesterday ApplePay worked, so I hope that’s finally sorted, however I am aware that for some people, the update to 17.1 seemed to cause the problem, so it’s very strange.

I got my 15 Pro Max replaced too, now Apple Pay works fine. However, I'm still not sure what exactly caused the problem in the first place. In any case, just to make sure I did the 17.1 update over iTunes and then restored my backup also via iTunes.
