IOS 17 broke my phone

I recently got a notification that I needed a software update on my iPhone 13 to IOS 17. I did it and immediately it was saying I had no service, I checked if the bills for it were paid and they were. I called Apple and my providers and they kept transferring me to different stores. Then they said if another IOS 17.0.2 update comes to update it to that and it should fix my problem. I did that and mid way through the update process, my screen freezes on "Verifying update" and I cant move it till I go to another technology store and they fix it. So once my screen was unfrozen my cellular data was still messed up and saying no service. So I googled what I could do to fix this and on an apple community question it said to restore settings and contacts so that maybe the pervious updates I got would be removed. So I restore it and when Im suppose to get to the privacy and data screen what pops up is "This iPhone needs an update to activate" But how am I suppose to activate the phone if I just hit restore and it won't let me get passed that stage? So my question is because apple sent me an update request and I hit it and it messed up my phone completely, if there's no way of fixing it, will they replace it for me for free? I didn't drop my phone and thats why it got messed up, the minute I hit that update everything started to get all over the place. I know this community asking doesn't have apple workers but does anyone have an answer to my question??

If your carrier is Verizon, you might be able to persuade Verizon to replace it for you.

Just reach out to Verizon corporate and speak with a high ranking employee. I have had to do that twice in the last year and both times Verizon credited my account the full amount for the bill that month AND replaced my phone as well as my husband’s.

Even if your carrier is not Verizon, just reach out to the CEO. Find his email address. If you need help finding the CEO’s email addy, I will help you. Just let me know.

I'm not the person you responded to but I find it odd that you would automatically assume that a prior comment was removed due to the use of profanity or similar TOS violation. To cite a parallel example, I own a MacBook Air M1 bought late last summer on clearance that developed hairline cracks where the upper half meets the lower half near the hinge. I had taken out the Apple Care +, which the Apple Store insisted on using stating that the issue — despite showing up within the first 90 days of ownership — was a consequence an "accident". (Anybody who knows how well I treat my stuff would find that laughable. I have never broken a single Apple product going back to the 1990s, to include a mint-condition iPod classic, and have never dropped and cracked a single screen on a cell phone either.) At any rate, I ended up stumbling across a Reddit discussion that linked to these forums concerning the issue with over 147 participants

I too have been having problems all day thinking maybe I hadn’t paid a bill or something. WiFi has been acting up so I went to see if it was on. I can’t even open the WiFi button to turn it on to connect. Not only that but the same with Bluetooth. My camera doesn’t work and if I attempt to take a photo it won’t let me, it’ll be fuzzy then g black and freeze and camera will close on me. Says I have like 1 bar everywhere I go so I check with my provider and it’s fine, I have a iPhone 12 and it worked fine until today. I assumed it was the update because it told me it needed one. So many things have gone wrong at this point and I feel I shouldn’t have to buy a phone new phone just because mine decided to crap the bed with the update.

This is what exactly is happening to my iphone. This mess happened after the update to IOS7. i just have the gut feeling, until I searched for it online and found this community having the same issues. I had wasted a lot of time trying to solve this issue. Apple should fix this mess they created. So unfortunate, as I was on the road and badly needed data, sadly I cannot use it. The reason why we upgrade to better data is for emergency situations. Soooo disappointed now with Apple.

the update completely destroyed my phone. nothing ever loads, gps system completely ruined can’t use it on my phone, doesn’t connect to any king of wifi and if it does it completely slows down. the keyboard is messed up it won’t let me type or click on the message bar. i just bought my phone 14 pro in october of 2022 this should not be happening.

I'm so upset about what updating to ios17 has done to my iPhone 13 which previously was working perfectly well. Apps slow to a crawl and randomly crash. The camera app keeps crashing whenever I press the button to take a photo (one workaround that sometimes works is to open the camera app and then do a screenshot instead of taking a photo, then editing the screenshot to remove the camera buttons, but sometimes taking the screenshot crashes the app, too). Safari keeps giving me "this page reloaded because of an error" and "an error repeatedly occurred", when I almost never got these errors previously, and it has become frequently nonresponsive, requiring several presses of the "bookmarks" tab for example before they finally come up. The phone now every so often goes to a black screen with a little white spinner, and if I get a text while it is doing this the text never arrives. I also miss phone calls that come in. My daughter had similar problems when she upgraded to ios 17 and she was told at the Genius bar to do a factory reset but NOT to do a restore from backup and instead to reinstall her apps from scratch one by one. Which is obviously Apple's clever way of seemingly being helpful but getting the owner to say "no way" and upgrading their phone instead. And of course my daughter said "no way" and upgraded her phone instead. Which I will probably have to do fairly soon because of all the issues I am now having following the upgrade. I guess you can see why Apple does this; millions of people enjoying their stable phones with ios 16 is less profitable for them, after all, than forcing them to upgrade by updating the ios to something that will ruin their experience.

couldnt be more frustrated -- my phone has been working completely fine until I installed this update yesterday. now, my apps won't work, they keep closing out & now it's telling me my "battery is damaged"... yet it was fine before this update. ridiclous. I also have 70,000+ photos/videos, theres no way I'm restoring my phone, it will take multiple days. who greenlighted this update..? it was obviously nowhere near ready.

Sounds strange, but after iOS 17.3 update, my XS MAX kept shutting off and would not go on standby, but shut off. Black screen and white apple over and over. When it would work, big apps would shut it down.

Today I accidentally left my cell in a hot truck at work. It did not display the temperature warning, but it was hot. Once it cooled, surprisingly, my phone started working correctly again! I ain’t complaining, but what the heck! Weird! I’m just glad it works again.

Overheat your phone a little bit and see what happens once you cool it down…
