IOS 17 broke my phone

I recently got a notification that I needed a software update on my iPhone 13 to IOS 17. I did it and immediately it was saying I had no service, I checked if the bills for it were paid and they were. I called Apple and my providers and they kept transferring me to different stores. Then they said if another IOS 17.0.2 update comes to update it to that and it should fix my problem. I did that and mid way through the update process, my screen freezes on "Verifying update" and I cant move it till I go to another technology store and they fix it. So once my screen was unfrozen my cellular data was still messed up and saying no service. So I googled what I could do to fix this and on an apple community question it said to restore settings and contacts so that maybe the pervious updates I got would be removed. So I restore it and when Im suppose to get to the privacy and data screen what pops up is "This iPhone needs an update to activate" But how am I suppose to activate the phone if I just hit restore and it won't let me get passed that stage? So my question is because apple sent me an update request and I hit it and it messed up my phone completely, if there's no way of fixing it, will they replace it for me for free? I didn't drop my phone and thats why it got messed up, the minute I hit that update everything started to get all over the place. I know this community asking doesn't have apple workers but does anyone have an answer to my question??

If your carrier is Verizon, you might be able to persuade Verizon to replace it for you.

Just reach out to Verizon corporate and speak with a high ranking employee. I have had to do that twice in the last year and both times Verizon credited my account the full amount for the bill that month AND replaced my phone as well as my husband’s.

Even if your carrier is not Verizon, just reach out to the CEO. Find his email address. If you need help finding the CEO’s email addy, I will help you. Just let me know.

Update; Thursday 4/1/2024!

after the update on my iPhone I had to take up it to Apple as my data could not work at all.

I must admit they did an amazing job, it turns out my iphone was just not working and had to be replaced on the inside of course, after that everything was back to normal. Im not sure whether this update messed up my iPhone 14 Pro Mac but Apple in White City, London UK, were splendid. A***** treatment.

iPhone 11 pro user here!

Last night, my phone prompted me to update to the latest iOS 17.4. What should have been a fairly simple process absolutely ruined my evening.

My phone told me halfway through the update that I needed to connect it to a computer to finish updating. No big deal, but it continued to crash mid way during the forced update. I was on with Apple support during the duration of this process, and they advised me to restore it as a last resort. Which I did, and it STILL would not follow through with finishing the update.

Now, all my phone does is flash the Apple symbol on & off.

The consensus from the Apple Support team was that something internal was wrong with my phone, and I needed to send it in for repair. This leads me to believe something malfunctioned during this update to my "older" phone. This update literally malfunctioned mid update and has disrupted something internally for my phone to no longer work

This is exactly what’s happening to me. I have an iPhone 11, not even 3 years old. Mint condition, I keep in protective cases like lifeproof etc etc. after the update to 17 it’s not working. This morning I had to try and get a message out on an old iPad to my husband that I had no phone. Black screen, glitching on and off, won’t even let me reset or restart anything. The response time is way behind as well. It reacts 30 seconds after it should, if at all. This new update has ruined my phone and I can’t afford a new one. I’ve had Apple pretty much since the Dawn of time but this makes me consider not staying with Apple anymore.

I have all the problems listed in these comments and more! I really believe that the update contained bugs that Apple is not going to fix so we are more inclined to purchase the new 15 where you have to buy new accessories and increases their profits. The deals right now are not good unless you open up a new line. We bought a 15 pro for a family member and it was nothing but trouble from the beginning of the sale to turning the old phone in. I’d rather just use my phone for simple things and reduce my time on it anyways! And now there is trouble submitting on this forum.

Thanks for the quick reply! I don't have a Mac unfortunately but did try the process on my PC to no avail. Also found another string saying that 17 caused issues with the SIM card so I swapped with my phone, still no luck. I don't understand (well, actually I think I do understand...) why they don't allow back-installation of older revisions. Would be so simple to just reinstall the prior iOS over 17 and turn off automatic updates. But that would undoubtedly cause a hit to their replacement revenue, followed by a fat hit to their stock price, so that's not going to happen...

That ALSO happened on my son's iPhone 11 that he updated. He was asking me why all of the members in our family showed his sister's name (including his)! Online support said it was related to the names in his contacts. I would check that for you and tell you if it actually fixed the issue, but the phone is no longer working after the "Genius" bar guys installed 17.2 today

My phone quit working after the lates update, screen went black and then streaky lines..... then black. I reset it several times unusable. Took it in for repair they said screen was bad, then said projector was bad. They wanted to much for projector and replaced the screen IPhone 12 jus a little over a year old... no warranty. No face scan anymore. the phone updated today now keeps shutting off in the middle of task. so ios 17 has been nothing but a money making plan.. takes phones out of service....They should replace phones effected by there updates....there are lots and lots of people out there this has effected.
