IOS 17 broke my phone

I recently got a notification that I needed a software update on my iPhone 13 to IOS 17. I did it and immediately it was saying I had no service, I checked if the bills for it were paid and they were. I called Apple and my providers and they kept transferring me to different stores. Then they said if another IOS 17.0.2 update comes to update it to that and it should fix my problem. I did that and mid way through the update process, my screen freezes on "Verifying update" and I cant move it till I go to another technology store and they fix it. So once my screen was unfrozen my cellular data was still messed up and saying no service. So I googled what I could do to fix this and on an apple community question it said to restore settings and contacts so that maybe the pervious updates I got would be removed. So I restore it and when Im suppose to get to the privacy and data screen what pops up is "This iPhone needs an update to activate" But how am I suppose to activate the phone if I just hit restore and it won't let me get passed that stage? So my question is because apple sent me an update request and I hit it and it messed up my phone completely, if there's no way of fixing it, will they replace it for me for free? I didn't drop my phone and thats why it got messed up, the minute I hit that update everything started to get all over the place. I know this community asking doesn't have apple workers but does anyone have an answer to my question??

If your carrier is Verizon, you might be able to persuade Verizon to replace it for you.

Just reach out to Verizon corporate and speak with a high ranking employee. I have had to do that twice in the last year and both times Verizon credited my account the full amount for the bill that month AND replaced my phone as well as my husband’s.

Even if your carrier is not Verizon, just reach out to the CEO. Find his email address. If you need help finding the CEO’s email addy, I will help you. Just let me know.

If you have a Mac and can connect the iPhone, follow the instructions here carefully: Restore iPhone with Mac computer. I had the same problems to a T as you did on my iPhone 14 after the iOS 17 update, and following these instructions to restore using my MacBook Air fixed it. The "Geniuses" at the Genius Bar also told me it was a coincidental "hardware issue." Clearly it wasn't.

My iPhone 12 had iOS 17. One day i was going to my classes my phone was in my pocket ( I hadn’t dropped it nor it had water damage) when I reached my class my phone screen was not turning on even though I had full battery. I tried to charge it but screen was still blank. I reached authorised apple store they said it had “probably” hardware issues they asked for ₹35400 for replacement. My aunts friend had same issues she said she also had ios 17 and after that out of nowhere turned screen blank but store repair her phone without any fee. I think this is problem with ios 17 and apple should repair this without any cost as this is company’s fault.

The iOS 17.1 updated absolutely destroyed my beloved iPhone 12 Pro Max which had been working perfectly until I downloaded iOS 17.1

It started with my phone the keyboard lagging on apps and iMessage, I restarted it but no change. I then got in touch with apple support and they recommended I restore my phone via USB C connected to my iMac. This made the phone even worse, a fuzzy green screen appeared and now it it completely dead. (Won’t switch on, black screen)

I called Apple and they told me I would have to pay €749 for a replacement even though the fault is not mine (hadn’t been dropped or any water damaged) I am so frustrated and disappointed.

I wish Apple would recognise this bug and offer its customers a solution (sorry, but I don’t find paying €749 for a replacement to be one)

Same here. My sons iPhone 13 started to loose connection then it said no simcard.

Tried to update like they recommended and now we cant even activate the phone.

On the computer it tells me something like activationinformation cant be read from the device.

This is for sure a bug from the update after iOS 17 was released but the will not let us know because then they have to pay alot to fix this if a new update wont resolve this.

I had similar after update my cellular data was completely gone unable to make or receive calls or texts. Apple does know about it because the error on my phone when clicked on sent

me directly to apple support that said if you received this error message than re do the update which did nothing when I spoke to them they wanted me to purchase a new phone also.

No Apple isn't going to replace it for free.

My iPhone 13 Pro Max didn’t break exactly, however, all my apps were paralyzed most wouldn’t open I had to delete and reinstall many apps up to 4 times and all my passwords for those apps were wiped out.

i had problems with my Verizon data…had no internet only cell service I reset my phone many times and the phone did not work right for a while.

Apple used to have updates every now and then, lately I feels like am using Microsoft windows!!!! an update every week…..messed up. Not just too many updates but they seem to do more damage than good….am not updating my iPhone for a while.

This just happened to my son's iPhone 11 (and me, having spent literally ALL day trying to resolve it). Updated to 17.1.2 and then no cellular but could access apps and internet content via WIFI. Talked with Apple Support for a couple hours this morning, tried a number of things that didn't work, so followed the recommendation to bring it in to the "Genius" bar. Brought to the store where they restored the phone to 17.2 (released today) and now the phone wont even activate when connected to wifi or hardwired to the computer. They are sticking to their story that it was coincidental hardware failure, not the ios update. Right... everything works just fine until the minute it's updated, now all of a sudden the antennae is broke... The store also told me they have NEVER heard of this before, but clearly this string and the several other "Me too" hand raises indicate otherwise.

I began getting "No service" intermittently on an iPhone SE 1st Generation about a year ago, and issues where it would continue to look for my home wireless connection while roaming and refuse to switch over to cellular. That phone was maxed out internally on storage and never got past iOS 15.x. (The only thing that helped was rebooting the phone but depending on when/where it happens, it's not always practical — such as driving.) I thought it was a problem with my cell provider until someone else I know on an iPhone 11 had the same issue. As a result, my impression is that updates that cause problems such as this is a longstanding issue that predates iOS 17.

Additionally, with my current iPhone Pro 12, I can't sync in any version of iTunes (device isn't seen and won't load when physically connected). I'm not sure if this is yet another bug or Apple insisting on everyone moving out of iTunes into Apple Music? At any rate, Apple has been breaking people's phones — core functions like connecting to the cell tower — for awhile now. I held out thinking an update would fix my SE but it never did. (I suspect if more people did not assume someone else would report the problem to Apple, issues would get fixed but most people just assume a future iOS update will address the issue and never go so far as to let Apple know how widespread the issue.) Moral to the story: If you have a problem you suspect is traceable to an update, let Apple know:

did you fix it ?

if not try to put it in your freezer for about 15min then try to activate it. worked for me but the problem with no sim card comes back after 10min.

Everything worked fine before my son updated the phone. so i dont know what to do next.

but everytime i let it be in my fridge or freezer for about 15min everything works like it should.
