iMessage sending issues on iOS 17

Ever since I updated my iPhone 13 Pro to iOS 17, I have had issues with iMessage.

Every morning I need to restart my iPhone before I can send an iMessage, if I don't do that the message is stuck and it won't send a text message automatically after some time if iMessage is unavailable. If i send my message as a text message manually, the person receives 2 identical messages (one iMessage and one text message). I have no problem receiving iMessages even before restarting my iPhone.

Is this a known issue? I'm currently on iOS 17.0.1, but I've had this problem since iOS 17.0.

after updating 17.1.2 on my iPhone 13pro, I can no longer receive images in text, only words. What is wrong, I did all the restarts, turned iMessage on and off, turned Airport on and off, and restarted but I had the same problem, I can no longer receive images or photos in a text.

I just came here to say that I solved my problem, and in case this helps, here you go!

I tried E V E R Y T H I N G. Even got my IT friend involved for HOURS which included contacting Support was useless. Chat, phone, chat, phone, chat, phone. Call kept being dropped. Nightmare. Anyway after yet another google search i saw something about VPN and that got me thinking. I did change something recently in an effort to get my get my wifi printing going again. That involved downloading new drivers (not the issue), AND in trying to follow instructions, i wound up messing with my computer's Proxy, whatever the **** that is. I do think I changed something at the time, and wondered if there would be consequences. As it turns out, yes.

Make sure you don't have any kind of Proxy going, or if you do (since I don't know what I'm talking about), just see if you changed something there. Or mess with it (turn it off or on) to see if that changes anything. You can find it in Settings>Search.

I have my MacBook imessage and handoff going again and I am top of world. I freaking love this feature.

When I updated to ios 17, I started having problems sending and receiving from Android phones.

I just fixed it!

my SMS in messaging was turned off. I turned MMS off and back on. THEN, I went and discovered “Wifi Assist” had been turned on.

I turned off wifi assist, and now, I can send and receive messages from android phones quickly again.

SMS was turned off and Wifi Assist was turned on by ios17. Try flipping these and see if it helps?

Great, glad you fixed it. SMS to non-iPhones is always on; the switch in Settings/Messages/SMS just chooses whether or not to send messages to iPhones using SMS if iMessage fails. To non-iPhones, it doesn’t do anything. MMS controls whether or not you can send picture messages to non-iPhones.

Sometimes “toggling” a switch will fix something that isn’t working.

I had the same problem and followed instructions from the web with no success, i have now fixed it . The way i did it is this , i signed out of Icloud on all my apple products (macbook, iphone and ipad) and chose to retain info , i then signed them all back in. After this i turned imessage and facetime off in settings on my iphone , next i shut down my iphone and restarted it. next i went into settings and turned on facetime and imessage , click send and receive and choose start new messages from your number. and that was it back up and running 👍. This was in spite of me being signed into icloud with the same details on all my products.
