iMessage sending issues on iOS 17

Group texts use MMS, not SMS, and MMS requires a cellular network connection; it can’t use Wi-Fi. Thus, Cellular Data must be on all the time to send and receive group messages. Could that be the issue?

Have you tried restarting your iPhone?

What did Apple support say when you contacted them?

I currently cannot receive iMessages on iOS 17.3.1 update. I can send as iMessage but for some reason all iMessages coming from other iPhone users are sent as regular text messages (SMS green messages).

Can someone please help me?

I updated to 17 yesterday on an iPhone 11. A group iMessage chat with 3 of us in it was working well yesterday…today it’s a green arrow the second I try to type anything. If I try to send to the individual people separately it works great. I tried to set up a new iMessage group, same problem…

Great, glad you fixed it. SMS to non-iPhones is always on; the switch in Settings/Messages/SMS just chooses whether or not to send messages to iPhones using SMS if iMessage fails. To non-iPhones, it doesn’t do anything. MMS controls whether or not you can send picture messages to non-iPhones.

Sometimes “toggling” a switch will fix something that isn’t working.

I got this update about 3 days ago. My boyfriend noticed that my FaceTime had said my email and asked why another thing that happened was it turned my service off and I didn’t have service for 6+ hours. My phone does not allow me to send texts as iMessages it will not let me receive calls from apple and Samsung users. My phone number in my Apple ID says it is not compatible and says my number is unavailable and will not work.

Your issue is unrelated to messaging, the subject of this thread. Please click Ask the Community at the top of this page and create a NEW post describing your problem; that will put it in the unanswered queue, where other users who can help will be much more likely to see it.

Few? There will be ZERO Apple replies, as I already told you. If you want an Apple reply you must contact Apple, not the other users in this forum. There is a Support link at the top and bottom of every page to do just that.

I am getting a android. After the 17.1.1 I cannot send text messages or .Gifs anymore! Nothing will fix this.

Do you have Block Unknown Senders turned on?

Wifi assist was also affecting it.

after updating 17.1.2 on my iPhone 13pro, I can no longer receive images in text, only words. What is wrong, I did all the restarts, turned iMessage on and off, turned Airport on and off, and restarted but I had the same problem, I can no longer receive images or photos in a text.

I’m having the same issue on an iPhone 12 with the recent iOS 17.3 and the previous ones.

I started noticing that after a few text messages get sent, my phone just gets stuck on trying to send it or it fails to send. I’ve restarted my phone every time so far, I’ve checked my service and my wifi and they’re all fine.

I've yet to find a genuine fix for this either.

it’s really frustrating, especially when texting coworkers things that need to be done. I have to restart my phone sometimes more than once just to be able to send a message whether MMS or iMessage it’s super frustrating and genuinely confused on how this wasn’t fixed yet :”)

I received a message back from Apple but I know that companies use SMS not imessage. I'm STILL not receiving them and I don't know how to fix it. Yes I can receive phone calls - companies don't usually call me so I don't know about them.

I just want to know how to fix not getting SMS texts from companies

I’ve been having issues with not being able to send iMessages or use any apps (Facebook, messenger, Snapchat, etc) unless I’m connected to wifi. I can’t even listen to Apple Music unless I’m connected to wifi even with my songs all downloaded. It’s been since the newest update.
