iPhone Keyboard Lag after iOS 17 Update

Hi!

After the iOS 17 update the keyboard typing experience is very unpleasant. I noticed the autocorrect feature is improved and available in many languages, but the keyboard has a major lag. After a sentence or two, the keys are not popping up, the prediction freezes and the text doesn't show up, even though I'm still typing. Few seconds later all the words I've been typing started to appear very fast and catch up again with my writing. I have already cleared the keyboard cache and restart the phone several times. iOS is up to date (17.0.2).

This is only one thing that's worst, there are many other aspect about the UI, but the keyboard one is the most upsetting.

I'm on iOS 17.1.2 and the issue persists

I've already tried reseting the keyboard dictionary, removing my secondary keyboard and since that didn't work, I even re installed IOS

The only thing that fixes the issue, as other persons have pointed out, is disabling predictive text and autocorrection

For me, autocorrection and predictive text is indispensable, so I installed google keyboard. It looks awful, but the typing experience is so much better

It is sad that a third party keyboard does it better than the apple one

I'm having this issue on an iphone 14 pro max running IOS 17.1.2 and the issue has been present since the first iOS 17 update

Hello~ Good work!! I agree with you about going into the Apple Store!! I always make an appointment before going and they are wonderful. It’s almost one month and you still didn’t fix this issue, even after the short update for this issue. I hope you will fix it asap as people are paying 1300$+ for these phones :).

You seem to be under the impression you are addressing Apple here? You're not. This is strictly a user to user only forum, which Apple doesn't actively participate in. If you want Apple to know you're having an issue, you can let them know using this link as they don't read here for user feedback --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

I noticed yesterday that for me this only happens in the YouTube app if I'm posting a comment.

I noticed it also happens when insert the time stamp using the little button top right inside the comment box.

For me this is a YouTube problem and I'm wondering if it's deliberate to try and prevent people posting about the people/country funding the gen0c1de illegally...

Note that I comment a lot about g e n 0 c i d e. Being that it's wrong you know....

According to Apple Support there is no problem with the keyboard. How they don't know when there's 1000's of complaints I have no idea. Perhaps ignorance is bliss. Too busy working on goofy stupid crap nobody will ever use, and the keyboard is so 1995 anyway!

Seriously though there is no keyboard in cell phone history as awful, and I have tried to not use it, but unfortunately for Apple it’s still necessary for things like text messages, comments on social media, filling out forms, replying to or making emails. Absolutely the most aggravating and time consuming thing I have ever encountered. My 2011 Samsung Exhibit keyboard is light years more advanced.

The worst part is once in a while it “almost” works but most of the time it’s an exercise in futility. It gets especially wonky when used with non Apple apps… YouTube, Outlook, etc.

Hi! I’ve still been having this issue too as of now (March 3rd 2024). I’ve tried all of the tips as well. I have a 13 pro max that’s not even that old considering when I bought it and also how long this phone has been out. This keyboard lag is genuinely infuriating considering how much Apple products cost. If anyone has any tips, please let me know as well. I don’t want to have to go into the store for them to try and convince me to buy a new phone instead of fixing the root issue.

The keyboard is slow, you type and what you type often isn’t what you get on screen. I’ve disabled auto suggestion because it simple does not work, you select a word and that word isn’t what is inserted in the text. And another absolutelly annoying thing is how hard is to type a reply message using the notification center. You can’t simple write using the bubble, you have to type a letter puting some physical force over the finger so the keyboard will think to accept what you’ve selected on the keyboard.

To end here, that empty space on the bottom just to allocate the emoji selector is awkward. I lose almost 2cm on the screen to allocate this.

I’m using an iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Please Apple, fix the keyboard as soon as possible.

Thank you.
