iPhone Keyboard Lag after iOS 17 Update

Same issue. Started within past month and has issue across multiple apps. Keyboard lags constantly, making it painful to even use phone to respond to messages I’m on iPhone 13 Promax w 56 gigs free space. Latest version downloaded. This is a significant issue that needs to be resolved

No solution has worked for me

The only thing that seems to temporarily improve the keyboard performance is to periodically restar the phone

Whenever I restart my iPhone, it works normal for a couple hours, and after that the lag starts to appear

I came here to see what was wrong with my phone since the update. I see it's not just me! So annoying. I don't have a keyboard at all!! I can only text by using the microphone and then I can't even edit it. So frustrating.

Istg I switched to iPhone from android after 10 long years and so far I’ve adjusted to everything, but omg do I hate this key board it’s very disappointing to see apple not address these issues, typing and inserting works is so annoying on this kb it lags most of the time especially when using social media apps like x and Instagram it just feels very unpleasant for a phone that is so much more smoother and responsive than android:(

They actually did with 17.1. It was even written in the patch notes, but nothing has changed, unfortunately. But I’m happy it worked for you! Tried it again and didn’t fix it for me.

P.S. Crazy they just deleted my comment on which you replied that said it is an issue on their side…

I have the same issue, to make it worse, every time I type in ENG, it autocorrect to VN, then when I type in VN, it sometimes auto correct to ENG. it drives me crazy! I had to disable VN keyboard so stop the autocorrect from doing that

Yeah this is a garbage experience for a £1200 phone. When iOS17 first dropped text handling was great. So much better than 16.

Since recent updates on my 15ProMax it's frequently laggy, misses inputs entirely and makes it extremely difficult to alter errors.

Usually I have to tap so many times just to get the cursor in the right place I end up giving up and just rewriting the entire word.

Whoever is in charge of QCing a really good initial iOS17 experience and allowing it to turn into complete garbage in a few minor updates should consider a different career. This is painful to use.

Omg same I have iPhone 15 pro max with updated OS and the keyboard experience is infuriating I say “I hate this phone” about 80 times a day argh. So irritated!!! My friends new 15 is the same. $2500 for this phone, it’s more expensive than my laptop and I can’t even type properly lol rage!

How do I disable/remove the standard IOS keyboard, give me the option since it sucks and doesn't work at all. The phone has become unusable when typing unless I use Gboard and the default keyboard keeps trying to reassert itself or default to it in certain apps. It's clear Apple refuses to acknowledge or fix this. Its gotten worse. Disabled everything and reset the dictionary. Super annoying the default old correction method its not even clear if you select the suggestion or not and which it applies is not even intuitive. You click the suggestion and it leaves the error, you click pass and leave it as is, it puts in the correction.

iOS 17.3 Installed, same problem, same disgusting lag, they simply ruined something very good and I don't think they are able to fix it in this iOS version, otherwise it would have been done by now.

Honestly I am looking to buy another phone that is still using iOS 16, I can’t believe what they’ve done. Clearly they don’t have the right developers anymore and things aren’t going well if they hired people that still can’t fix this.

As I’m on the iPhone 12 Mini I have been noticeing my iPhones keyboard and apps malfunctioning after I did the iOS 17 and I’m wondering what’s going on.Im playing my typing game and it freezes and then types really fast and as I am righting this it has froze,Apple I would like if you could fix this issue and it said my iPhone needs to be up to date but my iPhone is up to date so i don’t understand.Apple please fix this issue

I've the same issue. I'd love to see the code. Got to wonder it's simply bad code (maybe iterative string concatenation) key logging (spy ware) or have they moved the spell checker and predictive code to a remote server.

just noticed though, it's only happening on my iPad Pro (first edition). My iPhone 13 mini seems fine.

I've had enough at this point. I've tried going through Apple support but whenever they call me they instantly just put me on hold. The rep I did speak to over texts said this wasn't a known or recognised issue, so I guess the couple of thousand people who have clicked "Me Too" on this thread are imagining it. There will be no fix coming so I'm going to send the phone back to Amazon and get a refund, totally pointless.

I have exact same issue on iOS 17.3 iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Keyboard freezes up when typing, also screen glitches and random touches are registered.

Also sometimes I am unable to swipe up or even click on anything after using the keyboard.

Thanks but that’s just another workaround…. I can go back to my Pixel 7 Pro and solve that too

ps: did I ever mentioned that Apple Engineers are not able to fix my iCloud mail and all the mails are forwarded to my gmail account no matter what I do?!
