iPhone Keyboard Lag after iOS 17 Update

I solved the issue by just having 1 language keyboard only, so no more ITA and ENG but just ITA.

obviously this is could be only temporary

i turned off auto correct and that helped stop the lagging. i think apple is up to its old tricks again

It’s a software issue. It has nothing to do with the device. I had it on my 13 Pro Max and now on my 15 Pro Max. I tried every reset and nothing helps. It always happens when typing longer texts and fast.

I have this problem too on the iPhone 13 Mini. After the upgrade to iOS 17 the keyboard is absolutely unusable for me. I downgraded to iOS 16 and on that version it's fine. I tried every fix suggested online, including resetting the keyboard's dictionary but to no avail. Hugely disappointed.

So i just got my iphone 14 pro yesterday... it was working OK (other than i recommend getting a MAX now because my fingers are tiny and i still can't type on it) but when i downloaded the facebook app, it totally died. Like, couldn't form a sentence. I was so annoyed! but that was it! I tried troubleshooting a few things like resetting the keyboard, etc. but nothing worked. No hard resets, etc. I had to remove the facebook app (I had plenty of storage, it's not a storage issue).

I had all these problems and more after the iOS update. I ended up making an appointment w/Apple Genius Bar (the nearest store to me is 1/2 hr drive away at the Mall of America. It was SO worth it; the technician fixed all the keyboard problems, and then did some additional fixes to my Ipad pro and taught me how to do/fix all kinds of things. No cost, and the staff is so friendly and helpful. If there's an Apple store close to you, I definitely recommend to pay them a visit. 🙂

Just read that the keyboard bug is fixed with the iOS 17.1 RC

For me I removed the Emoji keyboard and added it back and now it’s noticeably better.

To reset keyboard dictionary: Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset Keyboard Dictionary.

Fixed it permanently for me

Guys, just use SwiftKey until this is fixed. It works very well and saves you from spending money. That's what I do and I'm on an 13 pro that otherwise works very well.

I’ve gone through the b of 17.1 and it was there. Ran for a few days and then upgrade to 17.1GA and the lag disappeared at some point.

I did reset my keyboard dictionary and tried without dictation enabled but at some point in the last few days the problem was gone.

side note my iCloud account has enhanced security enabled with TFA and hardware keys.

but if were to make a suggestion, let it run a bit and see if your problem subsides.

There you can actually report and if the keyboard issue appears often enough, hopefully apple will fix it's software.

It started on my iPhone 13 after ios 17, now switched to iPhone 15 pro and same issue persist. When switching the keyboard to another language I noticed the lagging increase. Also as the battery percentage goes down the issue gets worse, and below 20% with battery saving on, it’s almost impossible to text fast.

iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 14 Plus - all of them share the same issue …. The only way to make the keyboard work a bit better was to turn off the text suggestions … which of course sucks and that’s not a solution.

It’s not a YouTube thing. It will happen in any app that has an expanding text box. Once the box begins to grow/expand, you will start to see lag. It’s also correlated with autocomplete, having more than 1 language for the keyboard and other functions.

However I don’t care. I should be able to use all features of the keyboard. Even a galaxy a40 series can do that at 1/10th of the cost
