USB C on iPhone 15 not working

I bought my iPhone 15 a couple of weeks ago, I am able to use the genuine apple charger to charge my phone, but when I stay over at my bf s house and use his third party usb c charging chords it doesn’t work. I tried like 3 third party chords and nothing worked. I updated to the newest iOS, I also turned my phone off, factory reset, nothing worked. It feels like my phone is the only one with this problem—am I doomed to be stuck with genuine iPhone chargers ?? Anyway to fix this issue?

I’m having a charging issue as well, but i’m using the cord that came inside the apple iphone box. When plugged in, my phone will repeatedly make the visual and audible symbol for unplugging and plugging it in as if it can’t hold a solid connection with the charger. Super annoying to hear while trying to sleep. I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to do.

I realise there's been more back on forth on cables and resets etc and temporary fixes.

Just to confirm on the progress I have had on my issue, in addition to my three prior posts.

I have had an electrician confirm that all the apple cables/3rd party cbales/ports etc. are fine and that it is the iphone itself which is controlling the power it is drawing on that USB-C to USB-C connection and it's that which is at fault (potentially the power management software for charging through USB-C).

This has been escalated to Apple tech support, and they have conceeded that everything else they thought it was didn't work and are investigating it. There is no answer as yet several weeks on.

From my own tests, 3rd party charger with PD 3.0 USB-C port can only work up to 20W, not 30W. However, if using USB-A(on charger side) to USB-C cable, you should be fine as QC 3.0 max is 18W only. my iPhone 15 Pro Max works with all quality 3rd party A to C cables with all the 3 party chargers I have, but C(PD 3.0 on the charger side) to C only works if the charger USB-C port is 20W, not working with 30W.

I encourage everyone to report this on the phone or chat to Apple Support.

I got a call back this week, to be told there’s nothing wrong with the software or phone it’s definitely the issue of the USB-C outlet I’m plugging it into. And there’s nothing they are willing to do because no one else is having this issue.

When I asked for them to go back to the engineers and asked them to explain why it’s the same for all USB-C outlets that it doesn’t work with and if I use a USB-A socket from the same source it’s absolutely fine? They couldn’t answer when I got a call back the next day, but insisted it could only be the outlet and the phone is not a problem. Solely on the basis if I get an Apple power brick it charges fine.

(NB. When I forwarded them a link/mentioned this Support Thread, Apple said to me “yes, the engineers have come back and said they don’t look at the forums” - which seems insane?!)

I'm having the same problem now too. Won't charge with USB-A to USB-C cables(Belkin & Anker). Only works using USB-C to USB-C to cables. Won't even charge using a Asus 45W laptop charger. Just annoying.

Charge and connect with the USB-C connector on your iPhone 15 - Apple Support

"You can charge your iPhone with a USB-C cable and power adapter compliant with the USB-C standard, including USB Power Delivery — such as the cable that comes with your iPhone."

I'm not sure whether Apple is saying that

  • An iPhone 15 can charge from a power source that supports USB Power Delivery, or
  • An iPhone 15 must charge from a power source that supports USB Power Delivery

I think the iphone 15 has some issue too. In my case, I have a 3 party charger with 5 usb ports, one QC 3.0 USB-A 18W, one PD 3.0 USB-C 30W and 3 regular USB-A. This charger can charge my ipad pro 12.9 inch on all the ports. However, with iPhone 15 Pro Max, the PD 3.0 USB-C 30W port doesn't charge at all. So the question is if the charger non-compliance is to blame, why it can charge the latest IPAD Pro which has a newer USB port(USB4/3.1 Gen 2), but not IPhone 15 Pro Max which only has USB 3.1 Gen 2, not USB 4.0?

I also tested all other 3 party chargers with PD 3.0 USB-C 20W with iPhone 15 Pro Max, they all worked fine. So there may be some issue with iphone 15 is not working well with PD 30W.

From apple site, the footnote says the charging test with iphone 15 was done with 20W charger, but "should work with anything above". Also the apple dual 35W only has 17.5W for each port which is again not over 20W.

Hi, I also have the same problem as you with my iPhone 15 Pro Max.

In fact, sometimes I'm in a friend's car and their original cable supplied with the latest generation Samsung phone (therefore not cheap) doesn't work! Why?

I've tried certified cables as another user recommended and some don't work! Why?

I've tried cheap cables and even those some work and some don't. Why?

The absurd thing happened to me with a cable (normal USB on one side and USB type C on the other) supplied with some $10 Chinese Bluetooth headphones bought 2 years ago, and to my surprise the cell phone charges with that cable!!! incredible!

But be careful...

Oddity n° 1: the phone only charges if the plug is inserted one way, because if I turn it the other way it doesn't work.

Oddity n°2: if I connect that same cable to a USB extension, the phone won't charge!

So I would be grateful if Apple could clarify why some work and some don't!

Thank you
